What am i or we doing wrong?
u need to run sword+shield stacking all vit and toughness.
Dungeons in this game are hard. They won’t be easy if you haven’t done them before, so make sure you go with a group of friends that you can communicate with, or go with a group of people that have at least gone through the dungeon before.
Secondly, your build might need some changing. I don’t know your exact stats, but as you’ve said before if you’re getting 1 shotted, then you should probably stack some more toughness and vitality (remember, there’s no specific class meant to just heal you as you pound away on your enemies, you have to keep yourself alive for the most part).
Third, learn enemies attack animations. It really helps to know when an enemy is shooting a bolt at you, or throwing a chain to pull you in. If you can avoid it, you avoid dying.
Keep trying. Dungeons can be really tough in this. They’re meant to be. Just experiment with your build, try to dodge more, and try to go with a better group or communicate a lot with the group that you’re going with in order to get the most out of everyone.
Good luck!
If you’re being one shot, then I would guess that you need to add some toughness or vit. Only a few bosses in the game should have the ability to one shot you regardless of trait build. Is this the up close shotgunner boss in the basement? If so, try not to fight him in the tunnel, lead him out to the open outside and just hit him from a distance.

CM explore last night for us was impossible. Our problems started when we his Waylan or whatever his name was. The warrior would charge in and use the 5sec invulnerability, and the Dolyak Signet, and 5 seconds later the room fills with explosions repeatedly. We tried pulling the boss out of the room and fight in the hall way but then we have even more limited space. once we got pasted that the next hall is filled with what seems to be 40 trips that go off and on to allow you to charge through it. The only problem is you cant use Dodge because of the traps that are still active. The rifleman that are at the end of the hall are shooting at you the entire time you in the hall way. One of them were shooting our mesmer for 6000. And those of you who have been in there know most people that go in there have anywhere around 7000-8000 hitpoints. Once you get to the end of that hall to the mobs you have either lost someone or you have burned just about everything to survive the howitzer cannons the rifleman have. Once past that the next room there were must have been something like 18 mobs that would run at us. 6 of which were Silver’s. And 3 of those would heal themselves. We would pull kite them back as far as they would follow trying to pick off what we could. After what seemed like 15 wipes only about 1/2 of them were dead. So we decided that this was not worth going broke from repair.
The rewards for the torture you go through is not worth it.
So I feel your pain.
I have been told that I’m just a bad player by the leet people that say OMG this is sooo easy L2Dodge. Instead of OH I remember that fight try this….. yadda yadda yadda.
I guess we should just stick on doing events and world bosses Doktar :P
Thanks to the other replies i have changed my trait points for vitality and that defence thingy :P and it seems way easier now.
Now i just wish i could join a dungeon. Some wierd bug not showing the other members if i came from outside in overflow server.
Use banners of Tactics and Dicipline (at least this one), tell your team to take them regularly and use the second skill.
I have been in dungeons 4 times now. Im not sure if thats not enough to have learned the basics?
I find dungeons very hard and then one of the times it was a breeze.
Problem is i dont know what i am doing or not doing wrong. I simply dont know where to begin or what to look for.
First of im playing warrior with a greatsword when leveling but found out quickly that a gun in instances was better since i get oneshotted all the time. Maybe one of the reasons is that i dont have any points in defence and vitality? Also i know im supposed to dodge i just really cant see the animations to when i am suppose to do this.
The fourth time i was in instance was in CM explore and when we got to the boss in the basement after a serious of deaths from trash. We couldnt even get 10% health of him. I guess we are very noobish or newbieish or both :P
Problem is i dont know what i am suppose to learn and thats why i am humbly asking for help in here
anet expects you to spec for pure defense or die every 3 secs! wonderful system forcing players to play a way they probably dont enjoy =3
I’m pretty sure you are not alone. I am traditionally a single player gamer, in my approach to even MMO’s. I’m not particularly interested in PvP either. However I have always enjoyed playing Dungeons, and learning their nuances.
But Ascalonian Catacombs, the first Dungeon offered, is a total mystery to me. I have tried to form groups for weeks, with not much luck I have to say. And the times we do get in, I feel the mobs are INCREDIBLY overpowered. Not a single pick-up-group (PUG) has made it past the 2nd or 3rd group of mobs.
I play a Ranger, and play to my strengths as a DPS-er, however it seems to me the ‘tanks’ and self healing mechanic is no where near efficient enough for PUGs to deal with VERY tough introduction mobs in AC mobs.
I wanted to keep playing, but I feel the dungeons have put a dent in my personal desire to progress through all content in a progressive and inclusive manner.
With my moment lost, I’m already drifting towards other new games, that hold new interests and curiousity. The learning curve is truly thrown out of the park with the level of skill expected in the first Dungeons. And it really isnt clear where groups go wrong.

One would think that using a greatsword implies that you are there for dealing damage and power/crit/crit dmg would be your main traits, but it seems that the more dmg you do, the more you get hit…
I play a warrior my self with 1-hander + shield and full toughness/vitality. Wanting to be a tank but there seems to be no way to hold aggro, and the healing and defensive abilities is not nearly enough to keep me alive in a fight with more than 1 npc or a long boss fight.
It might be that I too dont understand how this game works yet but it is frustrating. Why would anyone need a tank if you have no way to hold aggro or take the big hits?
