Just curious if when you enter a dungeon with a PUG and notice right away that its a bad group, do you leave immediately? continue hoping for the best? kick?

I tend to continue for awhile hoping it will be OK then quit after about 30mins of fail lol

Thankfully really bad pugs tend to only happen once in awhile but it sure aint fun when it does.

Depends on how I feel. Most of the time, I tend to have quite a bit of patience once I’m in a group and I’m often the last person to bail when stuff hits the fan. I guess that falls back to previous MMOs that have Dungeon Finders and similar member-replacement tools when someone decides to bail. We might not have that (yet?) in Guild Wars 2, but if it’s doable with 4 people, then might as well keep at it.

Wish I had the same kind of patience when spamming Lion’s Arch, but that’s another story all together. On the other hand, when I’m actually in a group and doing content, I tend to be patient with what the leader is coming up with. Sometimes, I might not always agree at first, but if it turns out better than expected, then I might try that same tactic the next run (assuming that tactic is not a registered exploit but that might be kind of tricky to avoid since PUGs have this inherent ability to become creative in breaking content).

On the other hand, I tend to avoid getting into groups that ask a bit too much, despite filling in those qualifications myself. For example, those “all 80’s” or “must be fully exotic” or “need guardian/warrior” or other silly stuff tacked on. I guess they just go off the wrong way when it comes to groups and stuff.

I’m 80 in all exotics/ascended, but I prefer to go with the worse group over the tryhard group. Warrior/Guardian only as a tank is a very conceited way of looking at the game.

Usually what I do is just not brag about anything, keep my chin tucked in and deal with it. I’ll give tips on what to do at parts that I know, but I’ll let the group figure things out, for the most part.

I used to get annoyed by people leaving, but I think now that its not such a big deal since one can just have a guild mate fulfill the role of the dropped member and have them get in on some good tokens for doing only part of an instance.

Sometimes it only takes one or two bad players to sabotage the whole group, or just the fact that the group doesnt work well together. So if I leave then I will usually just say straight up that our group doesnt work well together or lacks good synergy because that’s usually the case.

Fractals on the other hand, if you’re gonna leave early then it had better be on the first instance. You can tell right away if you’re in kitten group, like dudes refusing to properly adapt their roles on the dredge boss when someone goes down (or the aggro magnet pulling the bosses away from the lava buckets to save their own hides); guys straggling and becoming liabilities on the colossus arm seals part, etc.

Depends why they’re failing. If its because they’re new, or just have a sub-optimal way of doing things, BUT are open to suggestions and constructive criticism on how things can be done in another manner, I’ll stay. Even if they’re still not quite getting it and wiping the group lol.

But if they’re failing because they’re arrogant and / or impatient and refuse to listen to the rest of their team, then I am out of there ASAP.

It depends. If they are nice/talkative and follow directions well, then I’ll stay. I don’t get mad at people for not knowing the mechanics. I always ask if anybody is new and try to explain it the best I can, but it definitely takes a play through or two to pick up on it.

However if I have a leeroy Jenkins in my party or people who don’t do normal stuff well (revive when down, dodge AOEs, etc) then I don’t feel bad rage quitting.

RIP in peace Robert

Although it saddens me to be one of “those people”… I will ragequit if the party is just terrible. However, for me to do that, it has to be pretty clear that the majority of people aren’t listening/trying to adjust or have any idea how to play their toon in a dungeon setting (not like a set build or whatever, but just not playing it well… you know when another player is not playing well). Luckily, I only do this once or twice; most people seem to “get it” by now.

I think I have only quit once from a dungeon and it was a group decision. It was TA Fyonna (sp?) battle with the eggs. Someone went berserk and triggered about 5 eggs and it was more efficient to reset the dungeon rather than continue.

That are of course bad experiences. But generally, dungeons are pretty well mannered and smooth from my experience. Just take it in stride.

I stay. I’ve had very good luck when it comes to PUGs in GW2. When things are going poorly, it’s almost always due to unfamiliarity. Even the opinionated-but-wrong guy seems more cooperative in this game. I’ve abandoned bugged-out instances more often than PUG meltdowns.

I also have more fun with a struggling group than with skip-everything group.

Its inevitable that you’ll get a bad PUG and usually its just one or two of the group that have poor dungeon social manners. I dont throw gas on the flames by engaging in childish behavior. I stay with the group and keep cool. If it falls apart I just move on as quickly as I can to the next group never letting a bad PUG bother me in the least.

Dungeons aren’t a race to the end so lets zerg it now. There is no fun in that mentality. I’ve been in so many groups, especially when I was first learning the dungeons that would love to pick on the noob who made a blunder. Several times I remember bad party members typing “fail”. Those are the kinds of players that dungeons could do without.

I’ve been in many excellent PUG groups where I’d love to do dungeons with them all the time. Bottom line, PUG"ing isn’t for everybody.

I’m always high and patient with people and offer help if they don’t understand. It’s the people that DON’T listen to you that piss you off.

Its more effort to me to find more people than just teach someone for 3 mins.

I always ask them if it’s their first time, and then just tell them what to do. Most people follow, some people follow to the pun (I love these guys) and we got a good group going after a while. And some people……. are just kitten If it’s only 1 I won’t kick him, I’ll just carry him through the dungeon. If it’s a group of seriously bad players and its evident from the start I’ll leave. cba to do a 1 hour CoF run when it can be done in 10 minutes when I just leave the group and find a new one. Usually the kittenedness comes out later in the run though, at that time I’m already halfway in and I’ll just suck it up, promising myself never to pug again. But I never listen to myself.

I made this post after running a lvl 10 frac at dredge boss. It was a nightmare lol

My friend and I were with 3 random PUGS. At the boss the warrior insisted on tipping the bucket, we let him but he constantly pulled aggro.

I suggested the guardian go up or my friend as they had the least DPS but the warrior refused saying he could do it, then proceeded to die from bombs at the lever.

The other 2 randoms ran to res while I kited but entire group -me died from bombs causing the boss to reset its HP to full. I am definitely not the best player by far
and found it hilarious I was the last standing.

This happened twice before I gave up and left :P

i guess like many have said, depends why and what makes a “bad” group. if it’s because of no synergy, then tough luck. but usually we’ll find a way to tough it out. one instance a player left after we FINALLY finished one path and said things weren’t working. we thanked him for at least sticking through to the end.

if it’s because they’re new? then i’d rather help teach them what i know. and learn from those who know more and better than i do. for each time they do the same path with a new group, that’s 1 teaching another 4. and those 4 teaching another 4. eventually, in an ideal world, all PUG groups will be more than competant at all paths.

depends if the pug is just ignorant as to what they need to do and are willing to listen or if they are just being jerks who happen to also suck at the game and not be willing to listen to any advice. If it’s the former I stick it out with them, teach them what to do, and usually get out doing alright. If it’s the latter, probably kick a few and bring in guildies/buddies who I know are good. If they are all terrible and annoying, leave. Rarely have to do that though.

Also before I kick someone I let them know my intentions. If they don’t straighten out their act, they’re gone.
