What is the reason for speed-running all day?
GREAT post and i agree with all of it.
I grinded some days because i liked the look of some parts of the CoF sets (armor head shoulder) but after that i had no rush to get the rest of my gear.
130 views and only one person has an opinion on this matter?
was my post too long..?
Honestly, some people like speed-running dungeons.
I thought people were allowed to play the game how they want, not how everyone else wants them to.
If you want to do speed-runs all day, then do them!
If you want to casually run it, go with your guild or some friends.
There are so many mixed different thoughts on what the right way to play is, and it drives me nuts. Play the game doing what you enjoy to do, don’t cater to everyone else.
It took me about 2 days after reaching lvl 80 for me to get max stats for my gear. I rushed to get the best gear in the game so that I could kickkitten as effectively as possible in WvW with my guild (good stats don’t compensate for lack of skill but it doesn’t hurt). I’m farming a lot of dungeons now because I make money from doing it, and I need a lot of money so that I can get the T3 cultural armor set (I’m going to transmute the T3 set onto my best stats exotic gear). I’m just getting the T3 set purely for the prestige and to look ‘unique’.
I’m not hell bent on getting through the game content quickly, and I am currently running dungeons like there is no tomorrow. Why? Becuase its the next logical step for me. I am level 80, I have 100% map completion already I want cool looking armor! Who really cares if it benefits you in WvW? I like looking at a character that looks badkitten An if it takes running dungeons when I am on, then guess what? Thats what I’m gunna do! I have a lot of time to put towards this game since I am currently injured and at home all day. Its not that I am taking crack to stay up all night just to speed run dungeons to get armor. But dont you think if I am running dungeons to get armor I want to make it as time efficient and cost effective as possible? Maybe you want to pay a grip of repair bills/spend a million hours going through dungeons, or maybe as you said up above, whats the point? My point is I want to be rewarded for the time I am spending running through dungeons. I’m in no rush, and its fun for me. If you dont see a point then dont run it.
Tbh i just agree with part saying that fun in most MMOs starts when u hit max lvl and in GW its while you lvling ( which is 2 weeks in my case and i rly didnt rush, did tons of crafting exploring and since im 3D artist i rly closely observed details and enjoyed this beautiful world ) Once u hit 80 and get exotic armor on there is nothing else to do pvm wise except farming dungeon armor skins. Sadly i think system where fun starts on max lvl and last for months is lot better then this where it last 2 weeks while lvling
Now to your question.
Before i started speed runs i did story mode dungeons and did twice explorable full run of all paths with my m8s. Story run was fun even tho bosses were not so interesting mostly cause of nothing but huge hp and huge dmg that made them special , first run o exp mode was semi fun cause we did it first time and was more enjoying the envioronment design then actual game play…2nd run was not fun at all.
So we came to the point where a: you gonna do full runs which are not fun and spend let say 50 h of time to get what you want, or b: do speed runs which are also not fun and spend 20 h of time to get what you want.
I think majority of players will find themself in this story, its sad but true , mehanic of dungeons in GW is based 10 y old story and its boring…

My point is that you are getting the best items in the game less than a month after release. After that, what is next? will you stay in the game for long?
I frankly doubt that.
Meanwhile, I see people complaining that the game is grindy because it’s being ground…and people complaining about the nerf on same path dungeon farming, because it will slow down their grind.
My point is, farming is not the only thing you can do in the game, and A-NET does not want you to only grind the same path of the same dungeon every day. Because once you have what you want you will leave and they will lose a potential customer.
In my opinion, the last patch is a step on the right direction since:
1) it will allow people that want to speed farm to speed farm as much as they want
2) it will have better rewards for not speed farming the same path in a dungeon
I hope you guys enjoy the game as much as I am and for as long as possible.
Amen
I’m in no rush to farm the dungeons, but am farming them because I enjoy them and it’s great XP (and money!)
Some people enjoy min/maxing… There’s also something about trying to get the best gear because it usually meant (or in other games used to mean) you put in a lot of effort and beat the hard challenges that the game threw at you; and in turn the game validates your efforts through rewarding you with dope gear. Getting that gear also gives you more scope in what you can pull off. I was helping a buddy out yesterday and we were getting swamped with dredge trying to grab vistas and whatnot. If I wasn’t in full exotics and had the layout I had, I probably would’ve eaten it at least once or twice, but I didn’t. That’s what superior gear does. Sure, you can say that I should just be more skillful. But when the respawn rates are insanely quick, the aggro radius large, and having only so much endurance…. Skill can take you most of the way, but gear certainly helps.
Not saying exotics don’t require effort and I think the new changes will help make getting dungeon pieces a little tougher yet less grindy to get. I think the change helps keep exotics exactly that. In it’s original form, where people could speed run, it seemed like there needed to be some other tier of reward for those doing full sections or full dungeon clears. I think this new change is good.
You could have said all of that in less than a paragraph. Great post anyways. Everyone should play the way they find it more fun.
Im just farming dungeon gear cause of the looks. I really dont get your post you are complaining because people dont play like you?
Stats of armors dont really make that big difference but in the end it gives a slight edge but if u are a skilled player that difference doesnt exist cause the differnece is minimum, anyway now that changes were made we will fast runners omplaining too because they cant farm the way they want anymore? At very least they have that right too since everyone should be alowed to play the way they want no? ^^
They still do… the rate has been changed from fixed to possible drop. All there’s been is a correcting of the risk/rewards.
Low risk = low investment = low reward = longer time to get exotics
High risk = high investment = high reward = lesser time to get exotics
My opinion: the endgame starts after dungeons.
I think most of the problems and frustrations we can see arising here today come from the fact that the playerbase and ArenaNet have a hugely differing view regarding dungeons.
From what I gather, many people see farming a single dungeon as an (annoying) obstacle in the way of getting cool looking armor and weapons, so that they can continue doing what they really want to do in GW2: play other dungeons, explore the rest of the map, PvP, WvWvW, roll another character, you name it. In one word: the endgame.
ArenaNet sees dungeons as the endgame in itself. Getting cool looking armor after months of playing the endgame is just the icing on the cake.
To me the recent changes in dungeons are a panic reaction from ArenaNet (the players are going to blow through the entire endgame content in a few weeks time) followed by mass hysteria from the playerbase (ArenaNet is going to delay my endgame with many more months of grinding dungeons for armor).
I think both points of view have merit. In the end, the player is right, though.
I see way too many places in overland PvE that are completely deserted. Look at the 70-75 level areas in Orr. Everyone is just running through that content as fast as possible to get to level 80 areas and dungeons, to start farming for armor.
ArenaNet, this is all content you spend months, if not years making, that people are entirely skipping since all they think about is maxing stats and looking cool first, THEN bothering with exploring the actual overland content.
By making dungeons more difficult and rewards scarcer, you’re not lengthening the endgame, you’re delaying people from reaching it.
But here’s my Wammo, so heal me maybe?

I think now that dungeons will have to have sections completed, we might see a shifting in gear…. Because that full berserker set might’ve worked well for speed runs but might not get you far when it comes to completing a section. So folks saying “they have their full set” may find out they are wrong about that.

I’m not complaining about anything. I just felt a trend in the forums towards whining about A-NET’s decisions to reduce speed runs and single path farming. So I tried to give the people complaining a way to gain insight as to why themselves are doing these things. The exotic armor in the game is the best armor in the game and it should take a while to get, or a lot of work at least. But when I grind like nuts because I feel I must have those items right away, the game (at least for me) turns into a chore, I stop having fun and it just makes me want to stop gaming.
I just thought, maybe the people are complaining about “Grindiness” because they feel compelled to have that exotic gear, even when they are not really compelled to get it right away in order to have fun. Since the same thing happened to me when I hit 80, I thought (wow I will have to spend all my hours in the day doing dungeons to get the armor I want) because I thought I needed it to be good, but I don’t really need it. Exotics have about 50-100 more armor and about 10+ stats than the masterwork items (those are green items). And I realised, I am quite good right now, I will still do dungeons when I feel like it, so that I can get that armor I want, but I won’t grind myself stupid because it will turn me off the game.
Since I thought some of those guys complaining may be in the same situation I was, I made this post.
