What level do you consider dungeonable?
No dungeons are hard at all.
At first, you may have difficulties. But as time go on, even the hardest boss is really easy.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Skill is better than gear. The players who are downed typically have little experience with that class in dungeons. The lack of gear just makes the dungeon more punishing.
You COULD bring lower levels, but thats handicapping yourself and the team.
Some people are fine with it, others aren’t, personally before the nerf i would run AC to levelup..
Now, only lv80 anywhere, not because its the only way, but because i don’t like the feeling of being carried.
Also, i don’t think its worth it investing in level appropriate rares, only to trash em a couple levels later. Pretty much prefer investing that money into crafting, and go directly to lv80 exos
I bring my lower lvls into dungeons all the time; I just make the group and say: LFXM not picky. Running dungeons at LvL is a lot of fun, and I believe you are not handicapping the team if you know how to play your class and know the dungeon. Six times now have I been the only one up at the Howling King in AC on my 35-45 mesmer, soloing the last 10-30% of him.
Skill > LvL. (if you’re the right LvL for the dungeon, that is.)
I think you are on to something. If we take what you say about the average player who goes down having “mostly greens and a few yellows,” and for the sake of argument, let us pretend that is a real statistic (80% of those players who go down at least 0.9 times every mob encounter have a ratio of 1:5 of yellow:green gear. Regardless of level, mind you. There are two ways you can go with that data. We can blame the dungeon for not being adequately scaled to meet the needs of lower geared and leveled people, or you can look at the players. Most people that I have found who do dungeons with Exotic gear, got exotic gear first before attempting to do dungeons. These typically are players whom care very much about how well they play. These are typically “hardcore” players. Of course this is all conjecture, but the amount that someone puts care into what armor they bring into a dungeon may tell very much about the quality of their playstyle. It is a mindset of wanting to do the very best you can possibly do, rather than wanting to walk into a dungeon expect the game to carry you through. I am not saying you NEED good gear to do these dungeons, but maybe those who don’t think to outfit themselves appropriately first, aren’t good players to begin with.
Edit: forgot a word.

I agree that skill is much more important than gear. But having good gear is an indication that the player is at the very least experienced.
I pug a lot, and with very few exceptions, it’s always level 80 characters who pug. I wouldn’t mind taking a low level or under geared friend who i know can play well. But I wouldn’t pug with sub-80s.
I know it’s a game and all, but when 4 other players depend on you, being your A game, good gear, and try.
There is not much of a difference between greens and rares but there is a noticeable difference between rares and exotics. greens=135% base stats boost over white gear, rares=145% base stats boost over white gear, exotics=165% base stats boost over white gear.

THIS… Dungeons quickly become brainless if you put any effort into learning how to play your profession
