What's the point about Thief?
m8 :/ alacrity is an elite spec exlusive mechanic/ buff like facets on revs, like got(kittening)l that druids bring the fact that alacrity doesnt benefit thieves should not mean that mesmers should not have alacrity or alacraty should change in any way. It means thief needs a rework something that would make this an actuall class that requires some skill rather than standing close to boss and semi afking while just dodging and aaing.Alacrity is fine the way it works your best bet atm is to w8 and hope that the next theif elite spec will do something else other than aaing

I hope they are going to do something because I can’t stand the meta now, Tempest is one of the most boring elite spec out there with DH…
Thief is a safer bet. As in by AA-ing and dodging (for buff) you can easily meet the class’s optimal DPS; you would just need to throw in a 2 Whirl every now and then to meet the maximum potential.
With Ele? Especially against a smaller hitbox you can slip up on your rotation and end up delivering much less damage than what the class is capable of. Granted against larger hitboxes Ele still reigns supreme even with a sloppy rotation simply due to the fact that they are connecting more attacks on multi-strking skills.
Alacrity in it of itself is fine. It’s the Elite’s signature buff. If was already justifiably nerfed a couple of patches ago and works fine the way it is in its current state. Plus, for a Chrono to pull off such high amounts of Quickness and alacrity uptime they effectively have to devote their entire rotation to it so there’s definitely a lot of pressure on them to not screw up, and there is plenty of chances to screw up as a mesmer when trying to pull that off. So, I would say it’s a healthy risk-reward. If you can pull off the rotation? Great, damage increases for everyone!!! If you mess up the rotation and lose uptime on your buffing? Well, you single handedly dropped the team’s, while you yourself have virtually no DPS to contribute until your buffing skills come off of CD.
Why don’t other classes get alacrity? Same reason why other healers don’t get Druid’s GotL; it’s the Elite’s signature buff.
To be fair, I do think Alacrity should affect Thief initiative gain.

I thought about that too, but then I got stumped on how that should affect Rev’s energy regen since the mechanic has similarities to Initiative.

Well, since Revenants have cooldowns and energy regeneration, I don’t think Alacrity should double down there and affect both. Revenants benefit a decent amount from Alacrity in their weapon sets already in that sword 2 can be spammed more frequently, staff 5 is available more often for breakbars, and staff 3 is available more often for active defense. Alacrity also affects their legend swap mechanic, which enables further rotation maximization.

but dh in raids is fun m8 :/ i like the gameplay much more than any other of the dps specs

Had this talk with some of the people i raid with as well that prefer thief over ele.
What we came down with was each point of initiative would need it’s own cd thus making it able to interact with alacrity but that is probably a bit harder to work on/code than it sounds.

No, not really. Ini is like HP, ini regen is like HP regen – it has it’s own ticks (e.g. 1 ini per sec). Alacrity could just increase speed of ticks (e.g. 2 ini per sec) – done.
There is however problem with whole – thief dps comes mainly from AA…………………….. because everyone cried to many rivers about thief in pvp that Anet nerfed every weapon spell and left AA. So at the end i am not so sure if ini regen would even help as far as raids go since you AA 24/7 as thief :/ It would be of course different story if ini based spells brought also certain group utility (e.g. might stack or sec of quickness for a group on successful hit ini based spell).
P.S. i honestly think that they just forgot to implement alacrity effect on ini just like they forgot to implement stolen spell from revs.

This is actually not true. D/D uses CnD + BS constantly, whereas the optimal DPS rotation for Staff actually involves spamming detargeted WC with camera aimed into the ground. Furthermore, if you ever have to dodge slightly out of position on Staff due to raid mechanics, then Vault becomes a solid DPS gain.
If anything, I think Alacrity should be nerfed or removed from the game, I fail to see the logic with it being restricted to Mesmers only, like why? Why is it not a boon that other professions can apply?
“Thief brings nothing to the raid group in terms of utility or support so lets remove a unique utility/support that another class has.” Thief, by design, is meant to be a selfish dps class. And it is not a bad or unfair design (although I agree there needs to be a rework on how alacrity affects thief), because you forget that whatever dps a chronomancer can dish out, a thief can do like 10 times more. Thieves are one of the highest dps classes while chronomancer dps is so awful that nobody even bothers to do benchmarks on them. Chronomancers make up for that awful dps by having ample access to powerful boons like alacrity and quickness. And also, a lot of people spent some serious time and gold getting commander or minstrel’s gear with leadership runes, platinum doubloons, and sigils of concentration. Nerfing alacrity or removing it would not go over well.
I frankly don’t even know why you are so upset about alacrity being a mesmer specific buff. A lot of classes have profession unique buffs that are just as, if not more powerful than alacrity, such as ranger storm spirit, druid grace of the land, warrior banners, and profession specific traits such as spotter, empowered, assassin’s presence. By keeping these buffs profession exclusive, it can guarantee at least some degree of raid diversity.

D/D only uses CnD + BS to keep up full Lead Attack stacks up. Other than that it’s just AAing. Now I’m not saying you don’t do it often but you hardly have to spam it more than the initiative regen already gives you.
Similarly staff never rly runs out of initiative either unless you’re in a fight that requires a lot of dodges for which you can use vault.
I mean, I’m not saying it’ll have no benefits at all but the effect will definitely be minimal.

The problem is that yeah maybe the next thief elite spec is awesome, doesn’t change the fact that group alacrity and quickness is OP as hell in raids. Classes like thief that don’t get full benefit are going to be starting at a large disadvantage when a new raid comes out simply because it’s almost impossible to make a fight where chrono isn’t optimal.
Honestly I would be thrilled if chrono were just not allowed in raids but that seems unrealistic.

And I’d be thrilled if Power Necro were the top dps, but alas that will never be. We can both keep dreaming.
