For the record, I know it’s “uncategorized” but harpies are the most immediate and noticeable thing about this fractal.

Since early summer, it seems that the height difference for the harpies to become invulnerable have been reduced considerably.

Is this supposed to be intended? Because I’ve been in groups with and without guardians, thieves, mesmers, and engineers (yes, them too) and it feels like it’s almost a requirement to bring them for reflection and nullification because you can’t kill the harpies from 2-3 platforms away.

It has also gotten to the point where the last several groups I’ve been a part of had to skip them. Normally, this particular fractal isn’t much of a problem, but once a harpy becomes invulnerable, it means players will have to stand on the same platform and risk getting knocked off, be downed, or skip that particular harpy.

Just use stability and rush past the first group. When you get them again and you don’t have a guard for reflects just stagger left to right and nothing can hit you and range each one. I can solo that area without getting knocked off or downed.

To clear “invulnerable” you need to get out of combat.
Imo it’s a bug, because once invulnerable harpy stays like that, even if you stand on the same platform and try to melee it. Most classes have stability or invisibility so rushing through after you kill a few may be the best solution for the beginning sequence. IMO beginning sequence of this fractal needs to be reworked as from lv 20+ it’s buggy and annoying as kitten.

Don’t range them. Don’t let anyone in your party range them.

Retired. Too many casuals.

As I understand it this happens to mobs if your standing in a place where they can’t hit you but you are hitting them. You can see it if you’ve ever tried to range the final boss in AC p1 from the stairs – if you range him from a position where he can’t get to you and has no chance to damage you, he will turn invulnerable (and then no-one can deal damage to him). It’s a mechanic intended to reduce the number of exploits, similar to the way mobs will reset if you kite them to far.

What’s happening in the harpy fractal is the same thing – it’s just one of the few places in the game where it’s easy to trigger it with out purposefully trying to exploit. The safest thing to do is just melee with stability and reflects as needed.

Eles and rangers also have reflects, the only classes without reflects are necro and warrior.

That’s how it should work in theory, but in that fractal this mechanic is completely broken, because they often become invulnerable while clearly still being able to hit you, in any case, it should at least also reset, after you go into melee range, not only after you clear aggro.
