When do I get Ascended rings?
Sure, i did the same (play other grind based mmos looking my drop on other hands), and i’m tired too of this sytem. Look above, Robert said they are gonna change something. The game they advertised? Consider that advertise as a fake, bro.

The thing that disappointed me most about GW2 is how they seem to forgot all those wonderfull words they used to advertise the game:
“no impossible rng loot from dungeon that you need to grind forever to get what you need, instead we’ll have token system so that you cna just buy what you need”
something like that was said, which is true for other dungeons, why shouldnt this be true for rings too ?

I really like how you roll out a powerfully evocative phrase like “problem at its core” and then leave it to our imaginations what that might be without even faintly hinting at what the Developers see as the problem at it’s core. Previous career in politics?
You know, when Lost Shores scripts blew up, the bosses at least had the decency to admit things were less than ideal. Recognizing and ackowlegeing a problem is the surest sign it won’t be repeated.
Most players would say “putting in a successful effort without receiving one iota of progress towards the goal” would be the problem at the core, but that clearly can’t be what the Devs are seeing as the problem, considering that this thing got past the laugh-test back at the white board design meeting stage.
I really would love to have been a fly on the wall to see who pitched this and how they talked everyone else in the room into destroying the basic social contract put forward for GW2’s endgame.

Hi Robert, as you call yourself hardcore player, am sure that you have experience from many other mmos. So far I have most experience with pass-greed-need table when it comes to rewarding players in dungeons. Am not saying it’s good, but it surely is 100% better than current random scrit giving (mostly not giving) us ascended rings. I know people are scared when it comes to “omg i need this item so much, what if they roll higher than me?,” but let’s be serious, atm there are people that have 10 rings out of 15 tries and the others that are still stuck at 0/15.
Now we get to Maw again and party gets another ring. Guys with 2 rings with suitable stats won’t roll since they got what they wanted (unless they are 12y old trolls) and give chance to others. While with current system, you can just go and cry in corner when you see that lucky guy got his 16th ring.
That was just and example of solution (yes I will probably be burned by casuals for saying that). Or there are many other simple solutions.
1. Let us trade rings in TP – you say that will make fotm farmers rich? so what, they deserve it for time spent in there. Rings with not popular stats (that are sadly kinda common) will become very very cheap in few days, so everyone can buy them and proceed to higher fractal levels. That will mean more people farming higher tiers and price will keep decreasing.
2. Let us buy rings from NPC for Fractal tokens + give us possibility to change ring for another one (for decent amount of tokens ofc)
If it is any consolation I am on scale 22 and have accrued over1600 fractal tokens and not yet gotten a ring either. It is RNG with the Jade Maw.
We are exploring alternatives to the current system.

6 dailies, 4 rings, not the ones I wanted but agony isn’t a problem anymore on current stages. I like the “gamble” – I always wonder what I’ll get each day

The whole loot system in this game is a joke and needs a revamp badly.
RNG loot is far from next gen,EQ had a better loot system and that game came out in 1999.
You can’t say “change is coming” when something is this broken.
You have no idea how much fotm and this whole agony resistance kitten rubbish has split the community into haves and have-nots.
You can only run the tier 2 once a day, and you’ll never get into a tier 3 group without agony resistance.
FOTM is grind at it’s worst.

the game hates me, i think i have better chances to get a legendary weapon drop at a lvl 1 mob…
can one tell my WHY the agony tics at 1/4 of a second ??? i am dead before i cast the 1second+ healing skill !!! where i go wrong ?? i pop heal in 1/2 second, and in the middle of healing cast i am already dead …. !!!

Ofc I wouldn’t like it as much then. But threads exclusively containing complaints of players who came away empty-handed appeal as if there were only “unfortunate” people (vocal minority of unlucky folks?). I wonder what the “drop rate” actually is for rings (from the “daily”) to better judge about the unfortunate runs. I know that there are some basic approaches to document drop rates for ascended rings etc. but they’re not reliable enough, yet.
Also, one might think that it’s as likely to get nothing out of 20 runs as if was about as likely to get two precursors out of the LS-event. It only very rarely happend but forums and community sites tend(ed) to overhype these unprobabilities.

I love how people are trying to sound impartial, supporting RNG but not realising it’s because it’s been in their favour or at least not completely wasted their time. No system should be truly random. Everything needs parameters in order to be fun and I’m hoping from what Anet staff are implying that they are finally coming around to this conclusion. Since fractals, almost everyone in my guild has left the game, the odd few occasionally coming in to do an ori run or check the markets. All of which have a sour taste in their mouth. I’ve gotta say, despite getting mostly what I wanted from Fractals, I am one of them; it’s just a terrible system that should have been corrected a lot sooner. I hope whatever you do next is enough to bring these people back and any future “updates” are released with more input from the community (weighted most to those with logical ideas rather than the masses of the biased idiots).
I hate RNG, and I took NCSoft at their word that it wasn’t required. That’s why I avoid most things that rely on it for loot, courtesy of another NCSoft game, AION.
So I’ll likely keep avoiding Fractals.

What is there to consider, just add 2 tabs to BUY, using one for normal ascended rings, and another for infused ascended rings, first being locked unless your on level 10+ and second being locked until your on level 20+
people keep complaining and dev keep trying to make things better and easier so people dont complain
end result will be people quitting the game sooner and sooner becouse its getting to easy nerfing the clases etc etc etc
might as well give all you kids all the items so you dont QQ so much becouse all you guys are doing is trying to make this game easier and more boring
end result will be a kiddy game that no one will want to play or get bored after 2-3 month of playing (talking about the new people that are just starting .
thats my 2 cents take or leave it i think the game is fine how it is .

As for my means of playing the game… I actually don’t play with other Anet people. I play with my small casual guild of old friends, but more often than not I am PUGing it since I am a bit more hardcore than my buddies. I don’t typically represent Anet when I do it so I can play the Meta with random people and find out all the neat little tricks that the community comes up with to solve difficult problems.
I experience dungeons and such from the PoV of the average player. As a designer it’s important to experience things like everyone else does, so you can make better informed decisions when moving forward.
Have you ever had a party member get disconnected and had to 4 man a fractal?
I don’t know, but I’m sure this has already been mentioned. But why don’t you just scrap the whole ascended gear and be done with it? I mean I don’t know what the overall playerbase is split in regards to like or dislike, but really it seems like most dislike rather than like.
Don’t get me wrong because I know people don’t want to be told they have ugly babies. However, some babies are just not that cute. Ok, change babies say with puppies. Even then, not all puppies are cute and cuddley. Agreed?
Maybe a simple solution is to introduce a few options players have to do before one enters any fractal greater than say 20? You could:
1. Go to map A, location X, and kneel down in front of Y statue for a 30 to 60 minute buff that yields agony prevention of Z percent.
2. Based on fractal instance, you could change the map location of A. Would need to predetermine so people would know ahead of time I guess – so maybe scratch that.
3. Fractal well. Again sort like #1 above, put wells around that grant the buff
4. Add food to craft
5. Add a rune to craft
6. Kill 100 white rabbits for the buff
Let the art department and item team then work on cool and exciting skins that fall inbetween exotic and legendary that people can hunt. Point being is that honestly loot grinds are not that fun especially when tied to RNG’s that you can’t boost. Also, magic find isn’t that great either but that is another story.
I don’t know really but to me it seems that items are not really needed and you could have incented people by other means. Visiting a statue and praying seems actually better than grinding gear

I have no problems getting rings. In fact I have too many, please let us SALVAGE them for ectos. We need ectos to infuse, so make em salvage for 3-5 ectos for a normal ascended ring and 3-6 for an infused one.
I hope the jewelers can craft infused rings and back pieces in a fast and easy way from coming friday. Then we can provide the market with rings with different stats on it. This would solve the RNG problem for unlucky people.
I don’t like insane grind in MMO’s combined with an rng system with no dungeon finder so I don’t run FOTM anymore.

Good question actually. Honestly, it depends of what the designers intent was vs. that of the overall population love of the idea. Loot required for progression after level 20 tied to a RNG is sort of like the odds of you or I getting struck by lightning. Wouldn’t you agree? While there is a remote chance either of us could the odds are about slim to none. Much like that of a scuba diver getting bite by a great white.
So basically rethink the overall intent of the items, then design, and maybe just scrap it. I can’t tell you how many projects we scrapped because at the time maybe something sounded really great. But after we spent a few million and implemented it we later found out just how much it sucked And yeah, I’m talking IT and software solutions costing millions only to see it good on paper but crappy from the end users perspective.
Nothing wrong with admitting failure. That is how you build a better product…

This whole Agony/Infused gear idea is very similar to both Radiance in LoTRO, and (to a lesser extent), Mk XII Borg gear from STO.
In LoTRO’s case, you could buy the Radiance gear with certain dungeon tokens, which meant you had to grind them in the first place. It was also basically an artifical gating mechanic, which eventually got entirely removed from the game because it wasn’t working and divided the players.
In STO, the Mk XII’s only dropped randomly if you completed the STF, and from what I can tell, the odds were much much worse than GW2’s Infused rings drop rate. However STO also removed the RNG element from obtaining the Mk XII’s purely because some players had done 500+ STF’s and never gotten a single drop.
I’m not a fan of gating, and also I’m finding that GW2’s RNG is equally as bad (to ME), as GW1’s..
So to me Fractals are a no-go zone.

it’s called stop trying to be wow2.0. Pretty easy concept. You had it right at launch then let someone talk you into making something else. Everything was ok, we weren’t asking for more gear grinds, we weren’t asking for gated content. We were asking for bug fixes and content fixes.
You gave excuses that Exotics were obtained too fast, yet the company said from the start gear wasn’t the prize at the end of the stick, skins were.
You said that legi’s are coming to fast.. for who? For the players? The ones who ENJOY the game? Or for metrics. Just curious how “good” your metrics are for player retention before and after the change?
This fix is easy, don’t give any gear any stat advantage over the current exotics scale. Don’t add “agony” resists to anything but Fractals, and actually fix dungeons to be entertaining with decent drops and the “problems” will fix itself out.
Those who already grind for agony resists have something above those who didn’t. You didn’t have to pay for exotic rings and jewels. Those who haven’t wasted their time, can come back to the game and play with people again because the DROVES of people who left content to farm FOTM will go back.

You know i have to join in on this thread too because i am seriously getting tired of not seeing 1 ring.
I have accumulated a TON of relics, completed a TON of dailies, im even at lvl21 and cant progress because the parties at that level want you to have +10 to +15AR to even be invited.
I wish anet would do something, let us buy our own rings with relics.
I have a TON of relics. Almost enough for my second character to be outfited with a capcitor but not yet a single RING to join the parties to clear the higher levels.
This is really frustrating.
I had to do Fotm on my alt and get my alt progressed because i cant do lvl21 without a RNG ring drop which doesnt DROP.

Sad part is, I don’t want to. But, that is because I focus on WvWvW. Which, all in of itself, is broke. I mean it works, it is fun, for about an hour or two. Then you come to whatever you believe in and say, “man, we are just not achieving much if anything by doing this”.
No portal for stats, bragging rights, etc. Just lopsided server match-ups and mindless pixel animations that flash colors and numbers before ones eyes. At the end of the day those that support beg for badges or loot while the ranged classes rule the day. To seige or not seige isn’t even a option.
But hey – lets roll out this fugly baby called asended gear because everyone wants to loose weight by running mindlessly on the hamster wheel
Fractals design? Win in layout and features. They are, without a doubt, a nice blend of puzzles and graphic look and feel.
Asended gear with resistence stats for higher levels of completion? Poorly implemented and bone head move.

We don’t need TP and powerseller scams. At best we can ask more gamble, the core of this game. So, the best solution, like a guy suggested, is 4 rings into mystic, for a random ring, hoping this time is with your stats. At least, is not useless stats for my alts too, right?
Some people getting no ring at all and some getting 3 rings in one run but there´s still a way to low chance of getting the right one you want. Somebody got 20 rings and it was not the right one. RNG is the worst system ever and just lead to frustration and anger. I hope alternatives coming soon.
No more Mystic Forge items,that just add even more to RNG.

Well, it’s been kinda obvious to the entire playerbase that the core of The Problem is that ascended items exist at all. So there’s really no need for him to explicitly state that they’re going to remove the ascended rings (and the agony mechanic) entirely.

To the person who connected NCSoft and Aion. So true and good point, although NCSoft West isn’t doing GW2. But it does remind me of that game many a time. I played a Spiritmaster and recall countless hours farming for my spirit books And they got harder, and harder, and more time consuming as my levels went on. Then, there are the raids on their own. I can’t say an exact number but the “fire” whatever lvl 30 instance/dungeon I ran a zillion times only to get a blue crafting mat. Never anything related to a item anyone in the party could use. First two months after release and they still never fixed the loot tables or crafting material (high end crafting mats needed to also be farmed).
Second connection to NCsoft (again, West) is the sheer number of bots and security issues. But back on topic. Yeah – goofy system following other publishers goofy systems (Bliz archeology anyone?). SWG initial Jedi unlocking? I mean, the list can go on and on

No, the best solution is giving the first non/infused pink ring as level 10/20 Maw reward with the ability to choose your desired stats, as well as removing the offensive/defensive infusion slot bullkitten – that’s just kitten

This is where subsequent rings come in – the ring vendor should only be available at 10+, infused ring vendor at level 20+. These should be purchased for tokens. This way your reward for your effort is guaranteed.
Y’know, just like doing 23 dungeon runs gives you a full set of armor.

10th time getting Fractal tier2 dailies chest. Still no Ring, now its just a huge joke.
So, as it stands, im at Fractals level 16. Theres no real point progressing because when i get to level 20 i probably wont survive Agony without any ring.

I’ve been in tier2 FOTM for almost 2 weeks. I have almost 200 runs and at level 19 with NO agony resistance because I was NOT getting my ring. My two party mates that always run with me have 2-3 each already (and always whispers them to me to rub it in my face).
RNG really hates me.

My friends team looted 4 to 8 !!! they have for other perso…
Now I die on all agonies I can’t evade… My team ’ll leave me because I die all the time …
Where is the enjoyment to play ? don’t know…
The dev said only it’s random… Staticly it’s not possible to never loot one and my friends loot 8+ (infused or not)
I up my second perso and since 3 days i done 2 lvl 10+ and 1 lvl 20+ per day and …. only token and gold bag …
Their random is bugged they should verify the parameters of this stupid random…
I proposed they give one ring the first time we finish the lvl 20 and only at this time but they are not really interested… the solution is simple and equal for all players… i’m sure it’s easy to program… but nothing…
Many players are blocked… and ’ll leave the game if the dev continue to ignore us…

NB : Anyone know a Buyers’ Association ? maybe they can help us to motivate the dev to find quickly the solution ?
