I’m bouncing back between these classes. Don’t try to get me on warr or guardian because those bore me to death. A might stacking ele that knows how to dodge and what to do, or a sword/war horn ranger with spirit and that precision thingy that knows what to do?

It depends on the build of the elementalist. Personally, I prefer elementalist over ranger simply because i enjoy the conjure mechanic as well as the high damage, fury, and might I can provide to the party. Spotter and frost spirit, however are very good for a party DPS boost. Ranger sword main hand can be difficult to control at times, though. Also, you will not be able to attack from max melee on a sword ranger due to the leaping AA.

Ele, without a doubt. Perma fury for everyone via Fire XI, a lot of vuln via Air 25 minor. Might via s/f LH (66% uptime on 21 stacks if using Scholars, 100% uptime on 25 stacks if using Scholars + your party is spamming Embers, 100% uptime on 21 stacks if using Might Durations). LH itself gives a lot of dmg, AoE, and blinds. Passive AoE healing via Healing Mist while AA’ing with LH in Water. Then of course, there’s FB 4 and FGS 4 attacks.

Why ele or ranger when you can have a minion master?
Do it, show your teammates what a real pain train is.
Nothing beats a dungeon with a minion master.

Ele would be more welcomed in pugs and its pretty fun. Also dagger focus build is really good for fractals.

+1 for the Ele if you’re going to be doing a lot of pugging.

In my experience, pugs are finally utilizing the awesomeness of the FGS and will welcome most Eles. However, Rangers still have a stigma about being all bowbears and will generally get kicked before they can say they’re not bowbears.

tl;dr they can both be useful classes depending on the build, but go with Ele if you want an easy time pugging.

My guild does a static dungeon speed clear group that clears the following dungeons: AC 1/3, TA U&F , SE 1/3, HOTW 1 , COF 1/2, COE 1/2/3, and Arah 3…basically 13 of the fastest dungeons in our opinions.

In our opinion, the most ideal generic dungeon party to handle everything those dungeons have is as follows: Two Warriors, Guardian, Mesmer, and an Elementalist.

GS/Axe/mace warriors for base dmg DPS, banners and vul.
GS or hammer/ staff guardian for DPS, intial empower, and 23 seconds of stability.
Mesmer for double warden phantasm, sig of inspiration, and TW.
Scepter/dagger ele for maintaining 25 might, 1 minute plus fury, and the Firey GS wall spike.
All zerker or nearly full zerk.

So yeah….ele by far IMO.

If u cant stack against a wall id rather take anoter warr. I honestly doubt that lighting hammer beats an axe warrior. Not sure if ele can stack vul or not though ,but when u have 3 warr u get the vull and might extremly quickly. If they nerf FGS, peace out eles, see u in the next meta lol.

@ Heltzer: That’s almost the same thing we do! Except….

- For dungeons, add in AC p2 and Arah p2.
- For group comp, it’s slightly more lax: 2x Wars, 1x Ele, 1x Guard/Mes, 1x Other (not Necro, not a 2nd Guard or 2nd Mes). This is because you usually don’t need both a Guard and a Mes; just one or the other. Although, in practice, it usually ends up as 2x war, 1x ele, 1x mes, 1x guard, same as your comp. lol
- For builds, the Guard uses sword/focus. The 10/30/0/5/25 build with sw/f is higher dmg & utility (burns/blinds/vuln) than any build with hammer/staff/GS. And since I usually play Ele, I don’t want to deal with useless combo fields from a Guard’s hammer. Also since I play Ele, I REALLY don’t want to deal with Empower, especially not after engagement. That skill totally messes up my Might-stacking, Your group would be FAR better off pre-stacking Might via banner summons/stomps in the Ele’s fire field.
- For builds, the Ele can stack Vuln via Air 25 minor (Build G in my guide if you also want to stack Fury – link’s in my sig). It’s especially good w/ Fiery Rush. Also, scepter/focus is better Might-stacking than scepter/dagger (there’s a link to a vid of s/f Might-stacking in my guide).

You didn’t mention the traits, but I assume they’re also….

- 30/25/0/0/15 for War
- 15/30/0/25/0 for Mes (10/30/0/20/10 for Arah), sw/f + OH sw
- 30/10/10/20/0 for Ele (or 30/30/10/0/0 if stacking Vuln)

I don’t disagree with your points at all. The guardian is really quite a generic add in and is kind of a safety blanket to prevent DPS done time. Examples being able to stack stability for the Vets at the end of TA, first boss of SE 1, etc….and yeah..empower is a pre burst only kind of thing only. Empower, stand your ground, hallowed ground, sig of inspiration, Fiery GS, TW, Burst, etc.

However, I’m sure we can all agree there’s much better versions based on specific dungeons. That is just our generic format…we swap stuff out all the time. My guild leader loves to bring his Zerk bomb kit engie to COE1 for example.

I had that originally, but 30/30/10/0/0 is better. There are only 3 useful dmg traits available in Air for an s/f LH build; Bolt to the Heart (VI), Arcane Lightning (VII), and Air Training (X), so those are the ones you get. You’d do better AA’ing in Air with LH for the 10% dmg boost via Air Training and stacking that with the 10% boost via Stone Splinters than you would AA’ing with LH in Water for the 20% boost via Piercing Shards. Why? Because 1.1 * 1.1 = 1.21, and 1.21 > 1.2

dmg modifiers stack multiplicatively. That means that in the hypothetical situation that I have the following modifiers in a 30/30/0/10/0 build….

Force Sigil: 5%
Night Sigil: 10%
Scholar Rune: 10%
Dungeon Potion: 10%
Fire 25 Minor: 10%
Water IV: 20%

… I would add them up like this:

1.05 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.2 = 1.8447, which means a 84.47% modifier in total

Now, the modifiers in a 30/30/10/0/0 build would look like this…

Force Sigil: 5%
Night Sigil: 10%
Scholar Rune: 10%
Dungeon Potion: 10%
Fire 25 Minor: 10%
Air X: 10%
Earth VI: 10%

… and I would add them up like this:

1.05 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.1 = 1.8601, which means a 86.01% modifier in total

Hence, I am undeniably correct that a 30/30/10/0/0 build (Build G in my guide) has higher effective power than a 30/30/0/10/0 build. This is also shown in an excel spreadsheet I linked as part of my guide (link’s in my sig).

im a 74% crit when boosted war gets into a party with a ranger that has “spotter” im happy. It makes me obtain 84% crit as i rely upon sigil of blood and dragon roll to activate active hp steals. For me its a noticable difference.

I like eles because they are an artillery class to me. High damage but frontliners need to protect. Of course in the games state we need to do stacks. 25 stacks of might and 2 firey GS=massive DMG O_O
