Why Don't Players Use Potions
People are either too lazy, too cheap or don’t know about them.
B)
People that use either magic find food or none at all I generally diagnose as a noob. I too notice the lack of potion use, but lack of food use too. I don’t care if not everyone has the money for truffle steaks. You can at least buy the low tier food or something like mango pies.
I use excess food/potions in my guild bank, but I’m not really fussed if people don’t use them. It’s their choice, and it’s not like I’m going for speedruns anyway.
Something like mango pies.
Anytime I see ‘Gain Health Every Second, +70 Vitality’ I think “Great, another PTV Warr/guard/whatever.”

Did they ever fix the thing where potions also increased incoming damage as well as outgoing?
I also always use food. I like Dragon Breath Buns or Dragonfish Candy but at some point during dungeons am often forced to Mango Pies to stay alive (don’t know if the mango pie comment was a joke).
I forget. I have a bunch of potions clogging up my inventory, but I rarely remember to double click them >.<

Heh, Mango Pies (and Peach/Grape pies for lower level dungeons) are my go-to food when I don’t really know what to use for a particular dungeon or Fractal. Since I primarily PUG dungeons/Fractals, you can’t always rely on having good support.

I know, but I get that same feeling when I see “+30% magic find” or “+__ gold from monsters.” It feels like they’re on a completely different agenda and are interested in killing trash mobs hoping for blues/greens and crap. It’s just an assumption based off of my past experiences but I also feel the same way when I see AP requirements on the LFG— I just assume they’re idiots immediately.

It was not a joke. Regen pies are the devil and you shall not eat them.

Nah I wasn’t joking about the mango pies thing. I normally use dragon’s breath buns or truffle steak for everything, but I keep mango pies for things like Tequatl that you can’t crit.
Ever since I’ve started playing an ele a while ago, I’ve learned how god awful everything is by comparison to heal signet and there is no shame in wanting regen. It’s at least relevant, unlike magic find. I suggest candied dragon rolls for everything that you can crit though since they’re better and heal more.

They fixed it a few days after the LS update that included the potions of scarlet’s army slaying or whatever they were called. Something like a day after someone posted in the LS forum that they were increasing incoming damage.

Shame on you, Miku, shame on you! Get the Power+Vitality food or the Endurance one, maybe?
To OP: I have 2 mains and both have a stack of approriate potions for each dungeons. But then, I have 5 other alts. At this point, I don’t bother to prepare lunch boxes for them all, since it’s not everyday they were used for my regular runs. If I pug, I would not even care, unless LFG is advertised for exp’d meta zerker.

I +1’d your post just for that. XD
Iris 5 alts right now: “No bento for me senpai?” and “NOTICE ME PLEASE”
problm is they dont bring much. the content can be beat what ever. also there is no reward for personal work.
no dmg meter nothing to give u an star for extra effort.
thats a kind of sad sometimes
On all alts:
Slayer Potions
Food
Harpy Feathers
Whisper Spykits
Rocks
Planks
Fire ele’s
Pet whistles
I just hate not having them :p
Dont get why people dont just spend 50 Dungeon Tokens of every dungeon on each alt. Free Potions FTW
Why bring potions? More like protions for those elitist jaguars.
I always link food/potions during dungeon runs just in case people do have them and just forgot.
But often times people just don’t care.
Potions are just not designed well. They are very specific to certain parts of the game. Like, when am I ever going to need a potion that specifically kills dredge, or flame legion?
Well there are some dungeons where they are useful, but I’m not going to be carrying them in my inventory everywhere I go. Which means that whenever I need them, they are most likely still in my guild bank. And that’s the problem with potions. They take up a ton of space, and you never really need them, but when you do, they are in storage.

This was about dungeons, every dungeon(except CoE) only needs 1 Type of potion
but I’m not going to be carrying them in my inventory everywhere I go.
Imo, everyone that does Dungeons daily, should atleast invest in some potions(even if its just 10 on each character). I don’t think some people understand how strong +10%/-10% is ._.
It doesn’t even take THAT much inventory space and there are more then enough merchants on every map
Here is an example of 1 of my ALTS
Inv 28/80, enough for 1-2 paths, then power sell @ a Merchant
I still don’t think you NEED to use potions, but considering that the dungeons themselves often drop Slaying potions specific to their dungeon, why not just use them? For example, those Bandit Slaying potions fetch a measly 4c on the TP; you may as well just chug one down and enjoy the extra damage and protection if you’re doing CM.

You can always ask for someone to send you one
But yeah, it’s pretty pointless system.
+10% damage and -10% incoming damage is a pretty big freaking difference and certainly justifies carrying them around if you plan to do dungeons.
I use Omnomberry Pie on my ele and I regret nothing! Can’t come up with the math of what survivability it gives me, though, it’s just good to get a bit of hp.

This was fixed a while ago, thankfully.

On occasion that’s what I do. I’ll ask ask a guildy to grab one from guild storage, and mail it to me. Like for example at Tequatl, I’ll ask someone to mail me an undead slaying potion… and then someone reminds me that it doesn’t work against Tequatl, and that his skeletal fingers also don’t qualify as undead… and that just makes me sad.

I forget to use simply because no one in pugs uses them too. And me using will have no significant effect on the time the dungeon finishes.
Even using 1 path worth’s of tokens will give you enough for roughly 1-2 months.
For TA, scarlet’s armies slaying potion work for nightmare court too so that’s like only 6c each that’s enough for the 2 old paths and possibly aether path if you do it.
What’s strange is people would stack toughness/vitality but refuse to use slaying potions which cost next to nothing for -10% damage taken bonus.
Its roughly free 250-300 toughness to builds using full berserkers and 650-700 toughness for “tank” builds.
If even not for the considerable 10% dps gain, its a bang for your buck wrench consumable for survivability.

Quoted for truth
I don’t mind if ppl use them or not.
- Sometimes you just don’t think about it. You pop one, then complete 3 path and figure out that the 3rd path you completed it without any potion. Or you simply don’t think about it at all.
- Some ppl play dungeon from time to time or stopped to play dungeon on a regular basis. So they don’t really care to have several potions in their inventory just for that.
- Some ppl don’t really know about it or don’t think its important enough. After all, they complete most dungeon in a fair amount of time without them. They can be PHIW ppl, but they can also be meta zerker build ppl that will complete the dungeon maybe 1min after a group with full potion and food.
- You can be playing on an Alt. Even if you have a complete set of potion in your main or even 2-3 of your character, you could be playing another character at some point, that don’t have any potion.
- You can have a limited inventory. Either you don’t play fractal and find bags costly, so you keep your 15 slots bags wihtout any updage in the number of bags. That give you a rather limited amount of place to cary around 5-10 potion, + secondary weapons + maybe a WvW gear + some food + booster, etc. Maybe that you rather scrap the potion and keep the other stuff that you use more.
So, there is plenty of good reason not to use potion. Personally, I have most of them and use them on my 2 main dungeon character. But it wasn’t always like that and even today I sometimes forget about it or use an alt without any.
I forget to use simply because no one in pugs uses them too. And me using will have no significant effect on the time the dungeon finishes.
Start kicking pugs that refuse to use potions. If this becomes the norm they will learn quickly. Negative reinforcement can have a positive change.

The meta is changing at an alarming rate!
It’s because I’m cheap, most of the food that I use are gifted to me <3.

For me it’s because I’m highly OCD and inventories have to be organized appropriately. The only characters that are allowed to have full lunch boxes (love this) are my mains because they have 20 slot invisible bags. Furthermore, since one of my three mains is my Necromancer and I never bring him to dungeons anyway, he carries other stuff related to his open world adventures.
The other problem is that pretty much the only dungeon I do with any frequency due to my limited game time is AC, and AC has no usable potions.
All my alts are supplied with a stack of Blackberry Pies and Skale Venom. Some get the second tier Maintenance Oils. My main (guard) gets the top tier and second tier Maintenance oils, Skale Venom, top tier Sharpening Stones, Scarlet Potions and Potent Undead Potions as well as Candied Dragonrolls, Dragonbreath Buns, and Omnomberry Creams
Undead Potions are the only ones I really use, I generally just go maintenance oils as default, or skale venoms if I’m feeling cheap
It’s a bit sad when people don’t use food, I mean sometimes I forget, so I can understand that, but Blackberry Pies are like 16s for a full stack of 250 last time I bought them. I mean I’m cheap, but I’m not so cheap I can’t throw away 3c every 20 mins… i mean that’s… wow.
Anyone have a list of what the scarlet slaying potions work on?
I know in some cases people just don’t realize that the potions have been fixed (even if they were fixed quite a while ago). I’ve had many conversation with people in my PUGs about them, and a surprising amount didn’t realize they were useable again.
But, more often than not, it’s just laziness and/or not noticing they don’t have any. And I can’t blame them. I mean, I tend to have everything on my two mains (necro and warrior); three or four different foods, pet consumables, and potions. But sometimes I’ll end up needing to switch (for example: if a TA run starts to go badly and bringing my guard might help more) and won’t even think to move stuff over for my rarely-played guard.
Generally speaking, dungeon runs will go just fine even if no one is using food or potions. The only exceptions are certain Arah groups and Fractals (and maybe the Aetherpath).

Toxic Alliance, Watchwork, Aetherblade, and Molten Alliance. So, they’re useful in the Aetherpath of TA, Aetherblade fractal, and Molten Facility fractal.
Including Aquatic Ruins, TAF and TAU.
So all 3 paths of TA, Molten Fractal, Aetherblade Fractal, and Aquatic ruins Fractal
That’d be the full list?
And thanks for the info.
Can any1 confirm this?

Nightmare Court isn’t Toxic Alliance. Also, I didn’t think the krait in the underwater fractal were Toxic Alliance krait, either. But it’s been so long since I did fractals that I don’t know for sure.
But the pots work on the Nightmare Court regardless.
So regular krait and Nightmare are inculded in the Toxic Alliance? Or how does this work?
And what about the Molten Allience part then?
But the pots work on the Nightmare Court regardless.
Really? I hadn’t noticed that. Good to know.
“Cough” wurms and spiders from TA also counts.
Personally, I think that in a casual run (and by that I mean not a record-setting speed run or a solo), potions and food are unnecessary. They might give you a small boost, but in the end you don’t really need them.
Saving a few minutes off a run isn’t that big of a deal for me. I’d rather just keep my gold.

And that’s why you should use the ones with few copper price tag.
Not to mention most of the 8/9/10% cost coppers as well.
