As the title asks, why are they souldbound? I have different alts I bring to instances depending on the group makeup and it doesn’t seem right that only that alt can use the rune if it drops.

Because you are only supposed to get gold through gem shop and power trading.

I don’t understand why they are “bound” period, soulbound or otherwise. It’s frustrating to see that orange text (for superior runes) pop up, only to realize that the superior rune that just dropped is completely useless to you because it doesn’t have stats you are interested in and you can’t even sell it for gold to buy a rune you DO want.

Edit: On a somewhat related note, the sheer amount of things in this game that are “bound” is incredibly frustrating period. /rage

If you did what they did, you would have what they have.
You have what you have because you do what you do.

I’m actually more happy to get major rune than superior one because you can toss major ones into mystic toilet (meant forge).

I’m sure everyone including Anet agree that they should at least be account bound. Let’s just hope they remember to change it some time!

I don’t think they should be tradeable as I really like it when the game encourages you to do different things. I don’t especially enjoy running the same dungeon lots of times unless I have a real incentive to do it. One day when I decided I wanted the rifle skin from AC I found it very rewarding and refreshing to be made to do this new activity that I would have no reason to do otherwise. If this item had been on the trading post I probably would have just bought it and missed out on several hours of fun. The same goes for runes.

That said, it would be nice to have something we could use unwanted dungeon runes for. I have 5 soulbound superior runes sitting in my bank that I would likely have no use for even if they were account bound. Maybe allow us to put 4 superior runes in the mystic forge to get 1 random one? Or introduce a recipe that turns dungeon items into their respective tokens?

they are bound because you can only buy them with dungeon tokens, which makes sense. They should however be account bound and not soul bound.
