Guest to a server with it open, run dungeon, profit. I never have to do the event when I want to do a dungeon.

This, if you really want to do the dungeon before you go to bed then you are probably joining that group on a 3rd party program. There are many other programs that tell you which server has it open. As for myself i try to run the event whenever i can because it just makes it easier for everyone. Also try to get story done, it makes it a lot easier on yourself if you have story unlocked rather than hoping that one of your groupmates has story and a unlocked dungeon.

This is also how I got my temple karma gear in Orr. My server never did the temples. After 2 weeks of waiting for someone to do them with me I discovered guesting and got the amrour within a couple of minutes.

There is a difference between “If I want to do X, I can do it” and “If I want to do X now, I must be able to do it now”.
The former is more or less true, the latter no, and in my opinion does not need to be either.

This is not about cof being available for anyone at the appropriate level to do, this is about the demand to be able to do it at will at whatever time, and branding it “DENIED ACCESS” because you have to do something else before you can do that content you want.

Imagine a post saying:
“I want to kill golem for the rare, but I was too bored to do the pre-event and so it failed and golem did not spawn. DENIED ACCESS.”
Yeah, I know it is not a dungeon, but the attitude is exactly the same.

I think many of us who reacted negatively to the original post will agree that perhaps the frequency of the event is too high. Or that the event is too long. What I think triggered most of the “bashing” posts, is the attitude “I want my candy and I want it NOW”.

If you think something does not work well suggest an improvement. But if you come to the forums crying because you were not able to do cof last night before bed as if this is the single most game breaking issue or something personal against you, you are unlikely to get any sympathy.

The key difference here, which feels like excessive repetition but also seems necessary, is that I (and the OP) have done the event countless times … it’s not that I want my rare NOW … it’s that I’ve done this entry thing, 100 times.
I did CoF story, I got gear that means I won’t suck and hold my party members back, I made a dungeon-like trait and utility build, I grouped various people together to be able to do it …
…oh wait, that event, the time-wasting one which I’ve done 100 times. It’s locking the gate again.

In the example you gave, like the pre-events for meta dragons/etc … that’s different. People have the expectation that to get to Claw or Jormag or Maw or whatever you have to do the preevents because those bosses and rewards are associated to those events.
Currently the end-boss of a dungeon path and the rewards are tied to running the dungeon, not even ALL the dungeons have gates – but the few that do are incredibly annoying.

Like I suggested, if you put the time gate into the instance itself instead of outside then groups would have a clearer expectation of what they’re going to have to deal with.

Guest to another server? Yeah that can work, if you can find one with an open gate…but you shouldn’t have to – it’s a work-around to a ‘problem’.

I have my dungeon master title, i am an avid arah runner ( cmon now, the armours and weapons look cool ).

Where exactly did i mention i want handouts and free ledgendaries/rares/exotics?
I HATE HANDOUTS, its why i dont play wow anymore, that game was awesome , then it took a wrong turn and never recovered.

To another poster on the first page…I can mention another instance where running dungeons the whole expansion was still viable ( and difficult )…Burning crusade …
The epitome of perfection ( dungeon wise )…Run the instance for rep to buy the key to unlock heroic or do quests for rep..

Gw2 could easily implement something like this.. Do the events , hearts and dungeons in the area, gain rep to buy a key to open the gates of cof yourself.

Dont have a key, do the event….simple.

Honestly what is with the lazy comments?
Over the years, ive raided pretty hardcore, put in ALOT of time and dedication, farming mats, making pots and buff food etc….

Not wanting to do the event isnt lazy, ive done my time, let the youngsters have a go:)

Bottom line….I really enjoy running dungeons ( and raiding )…Its what i do, its what im good at ( i can prob count on both hands the amounts of times ive pvped, theres other games for that, FPS ). I dont want to do events unless im in the mood for them, simple as that, i want to run the dungeon…

Reya: I think many people will not disagree with the annoyance of the event. It is indeed annoying. But they may disagree with the attitude of the O Post. At least I do. Having said this, in that same way that you associate pre-events with world bosses, why do you not associate this event with cof running? They are clearly related in game. I could equally say – “I just want to kill behe, not escort beer. I have escorted beer countless times.” Well, actually I have not, but you get the point. We can go on like this forever.

Skullcrasher: We do get it, it is not that difficult. I don’t want to do the event either if I can avoid it. And if your OP had been phrased better and had perhaps a suggestion on how to amend this, I am sure you would had gotten different replies. I for one would had agreed with you that the event is a pain in the bum and some modification would be welcome. But, at least for me, the “DENIED ACCESS” just made the whole thing look like a tantrum, and that in a forum where every second hour someone qq’s about anything under the sun: that they should not have to do dailies because they are WvW-ers, or that they are unfairly excluded from speed runs cause they are not zerkers and so on. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but how did you expect ppl on this forum to react to such a post? If you are taking the time to post in the forums, why not provide a measured thoughtful post with suggestions, which based on your subsequent posts you are clearly capable of, instead of that op?

On second thought you’ve convinced me Reya. I don’t want to do any pre-event anymore because I’ve done them all countless times and why should I? ANet, can you please allow me to do any part of the game instantly without this annoying aspect of the game, I just want to fight {insert enemy/event/dungeon name here} over and over ad nauseum.

We can do 5 out of 8 dungeons instantly (really 6 cause I hardly ever see Arah contested), so why should those 2 be special? The process of uncontesting it isn’t rewarding, it’s just an annoying speedbump.

Maybe scale the times between time needed to complete and the times it opens? As how I look at it, they made the dungeon being available as reward for completing the dynamic event leading to it. Problem with CoF is that the time between uncontest and the time period where the dungeon is open isn’t really the same with CoE. Arah, on the other hand, was changed because the entire chain to open the dungeon was so long, and the associated events to it had scores of bugs that ANet went the breezy way and instead changed it so that it’s open all the time, except if it’s on the boss event which is the final event on the meta-event chain.

I kinda feel for OP, whilst I don’t do CoF, if CoE or Arah is contested across all servers then I just don’t do the dungeon, I’ll find something else to do until someone else opens one.

Ive done cof more since the change lol. Just the odd cof 1 & 2 when weve run out of other dungeons to do.
