Why doesnt it stay, i get it you left the party already, but past messages should not go away just because you left the party, its like the chat ddnt even happen since the whole chat log disappears after you leave party. I hope anet does something about this, its chat log after all, chat that happened already, it should leave traces and not go up and vanish.

Because Anet made it that way. A workaround – screenshot-. I typically do that. Once people start talking I start prt screening. Never know when comedic(y?) gold will pop up before your very eyes.

How about ppl looting your guild stash and then leaving the guild and EVERY trace or the person/records disappears? Isn’t that a superb mechanic too!? Ftw….

RemiRome is pointing out a very small, but significant difference. One that’s easily confused.

It isn’t the act of leaving a party that wipes chat. It is the act of changing zones that does (if you aren’t in that party anymore). But since when you leave party while in a dungeon it also auto kicks you from the instance, they happen at the same time.

As a quick experiment, party up with a friend, say something in party chat, them break party without changing zones. Your party chat remains. Change zones and it will disappear.

So that it prevents you to report these guys, which would give Anet tons of work.
This way, they can safely ignore the problem because “it’s not a problem lol, very few reports guys”

Actually, it doesn’t. Party Chat gets cleared once you load into a new instance or new zone. So, if you’re inside a dungeon when you leave party, you’re switching zones; thus, your Party Chat is wiped. If you exit the dungeon before leaving party, your Party Chat will still be there (until you go to a new zone or log out).

That sounds like someone was either hacked or became very, very angry with the guild before quitting the game. The first scenario is sadly the most likely.
