Isle of Janthir
Your smallest dungeon group
Isle of Janthir
I hereby summon Weth to this thread.
I’ve never attempted a full dungeon without a full party, but I did wind up 2 maning the entire end boss of TA Forward / Forward last night. I ran a guardian that tanked / kited the adds and did what DPS to the boss I could while a mesmer managed most of the DPS from range.
The other 3 people were stuck defeated from where they died standing on a branch trying to break the spawn of veterans :P The one vet they successfully got to spawn up there killed them for the effort. I laughed a bit.
Took forever though.
As Lehova mentioned, a warrior named Wethposu solo’d Arah – It was really impressive. I believe he’s also solo’d AC.
I’ve solo’d the butler and asura paths in CM (Butler legit, asura.. not so much.), the Koptev path in SE (Koptev is such a bro, he tanks bosses and doesn’t afraid of anything), and the UP and Forward Forward paths in TA. Up path is the easiest one to get practice with.
It’s very time consuming, but it’s a great test of skills and ingenuity. Honestly speaking, I learned more about the capabilities and potential of my profession, its traits and utilities while I was soloing and wracking my mind trying to figure out “how can I deal with these obstacles?!” than I did any other time in Gw2.
And, of course – Once you can solo a path, running it with a party is awesome. It’s like suddenly gaining 40-60k more HP in the form of self-regenerating and aggro drawing meatshields that also quadruple or more your DPS output. You feel on top of the world, and you can use your experience to help your party survive, making it run much smoother.

The Weth call: “This dungeon/boss is impossible!” That should get his attention.
That being said, dungeons are more about your personal skill and mastery than about gear. Sure gear helps – it either enhances your strengths or allows you the opportunity to mess up a bit without so much punishment. There are some encounters that can be a bit of a gear check, but overall it’s more about your personal skill. Solo is possible in certain paths – however some of them have required numbers mechanics: Like CoF path 3 where you need to light 3 braziers at once. Those may have a pre-req party count.

Which is why pve meta is berzerkers max dps

CoF1 does not PvE meta make.

I’d like to know as well malice (condi damage) just isn’t worth it right now ;/

The “meta” still heavily favors max available dps to any other utility spec. CoF p1 or Arah p4, doesn’t matter.
Saladtha (Lv 80 salad sidekick to bears) | Dunelle (Lv 80 eviscerating muppet)
Karmell (Lv 80 human might dispenser) | Vast says hi~.

thanks for saving me time.
And of course none gives a quaggan about poor Spiky, who soloed all TA paths 3x hurray for Weth

^this. Plus the knowledge about the dungeon you are attempting to do.
But its partly also about the profession you’re playing and not to forget the damage you can deal. Expecially when it comes to solo/duo’ing dungeons. I’ve been trying several Dungeons paths solo as Guardian, some (like CM path 1 or Arah path 2) worked well but some others have been terrible/impossible (for me). Good examples are defend events where Mobs continue spawning, e.g. AC path 1/3, cof path 2, etc. Killing the 6 burrows at hodgins costs me about 2-3 tries on average as ele, but about 40-50 as warrior. Other parts where it comes to pure fighting power, you’re pretty much messed up as ele in comparison to the easypeasy feeling as warrior. And as necro, engineer or thief (rangers are pretty fun to use, the pet helps a lot in fighting single enemies) probably noone will ever be able to solo several dungeons which are easy-to-do’s with other professions.
Back to topic: Few dungeon (path’s) done solo, most dungeons done duo and few path’s only in full parties. Especially when it comes to not using game weaknesses lots of dungeons require 5 men groups though. But its possible to “skip” most of the events that require a set-up amount of players.
@Spiky: I’d give you a red mini-quaggan if those weren’t soulbound

Sorry, I’m bit late to the party. I had a Queen to rescue (http://www.youtu.be/yIgQWLCJpfY).
But as stated, I’m not a true solo-king when I miss so many paths.

Yeah it does. The CoF1 farmers won’t be able to get to Lupus, let alone kill him with 95% probability.
If you get stuck in a CoE group that can’t handle Subject Alpha, then it’s effectively a solo effort. Sadly, I’ve had to deal with that quite a few times. Tempted to record it once in a while to properly demonstrate each of his techniques and how to counter them.
Other than that, I’ve run HotW P1 in a duo, which probably isn’t all that impressive, but I never really have the drive to do stuff like that. I have more alts to level and legendaries to get, darnit!

I’ve completed half of the Uncategorized Fractal, all of the Swamp Fractal and then all of Jade Maw with only 2 people at level 26 scale. Thinking about that, I’m so glad people dropping doesn’t screw me over in Fractals anymore.

Nice to see your videos! So fast though, how long did it actually take you to save the Queen?

This is probably our main motivation: pushing our skill levels with the classes to our limits. We’re trying to work on team mechanics and combo usage too, and we ran… a condition damage mesmer, a tanky warrior, and some sort of hybrid elementalist. Still working at it! Also, when we do need to lead a completely new person through a dungeon, it won’t hurt so bad haha. Legendaries and world completion star can come never later.

It usually takes few hours, depends how long I get stuck on some encounters.

You two-manned the Swamp fractal, the one with three wisps?
three manned the Dredge Suit boss (when he was harder) in FOTM at around lvl 16; we were two thieves and a ranger.
it took a little bit.
