All my other toons are full zerk(w/ scholars) so I have never been kicked from a dungeon on those guys, but wondering if it will happen on this one.
Just curious on people’s experiences with zerker only LFG’s. How far off “zerker meta” do people have to be to get kicked from these things? I am sure it varies, but wondering what people have seen accepted and not accepted in these groups.
I never ever kicked anyone in assassin’s gear instead of zerker. “Zerker only” is quite broad in itself and tend to mean “dps gear” (rampager, zerker, assassin). Other people can disagree though.
Ogre runes are also dps-oriented runes so I don’t mind, for as long, naturally, as your dogs don’t aggro everything. Normally they don’t, but the Golemancer runes are also dps oriented and their spawns are pretty annoying, don’t bring those.

Assassins IS the meta for some professions. “zerk only” more refers to being set up for damage than being specifically zerker. It implies that you have gear with Power/Prec/Fero, which assassin or zerk fits, assassins is simply more focused on crits which can be very beneficial for some professions. That mentality also assumes you’re traited for damage and have runes/sigils for damage. Sounds like assuming you trait correctly you’er following the idea perfectly
If they don’t ask you to ping gear then you can get away with clerics/rabid or w/e the kitten you want to run lol(as long as the weapons don’t give you away like sword on warr, scepter on necro, staff on mes etc. while fighting).
Useless traits, utilities and signets for the content also can get you kicked rarely.
If you need to ping gear assassin’s is not really a major point to kick you, and so are ogre runes(I’m not sure but depending your positioning to proc side strike, discipline banner and spotter, you might be better off with Ranger runes + active mini and just go full exotic berserkers).
To be honest, I find it more important to have Force/Night sigils and the appropriate +10% slaying potion for the path than having Scholar runes/Berserker instead of Ogre runes/Assassin.
I was wondering how “informed” some of these PUGs are (i.e. I don’t really know what zerk only means, but everyone else is doing it so I am going to do it). In these instances I thought maybe pugs look only for zerk prefix, but it sounds like a no there.

Exactly, you were running low on money and got something to carry you for now. Force/Night are going to be your best option, but then you also need 2 sets and htat’s like 14g right there.
Scholar runes, a set is what like ~24g?
New gear you may be able to get from dungeon currency, or even more gold right there.
Im a bit funny in that I dont join berzerker only runs. they ask for berserker and the only proffs that are purely berserker is my war and guardian (technically my ele but I have 2 armour sets)
I sorta expect they know what they want and they put it. When I lead and want only specific armour types I tend to put Berserker/Sin yadda yadda yadda
There is no definitive answers on that. Personally, when I pug I don’t really care about what other ppl bring. If i’m with 2-3 ppl of my guild I rarely care at all, if i’m alone i usually just ask for speed run. But there is a lot of ppl that have some very limited view of what meta or zerker mean.
There is a lot of option to get a high amount of DPS. How can someone can look down on someone using ruby orbs and assassins gear if you don’t use food, nourishment, or even worst use some bad trait.
For the Runes of Ogre. Its a good DPS, but I still don’t really like the Rock Dog. It can screw up some stacking or LOS tactics. Its like minions or ranger that can’t manage their pets. It can screw up a lot in a little time.
What about rampagers? I’m am working on getting a full set of that. (Council ministry armor) It has condition damage and buffs my might. I am an elementalist. I have yet to be kicked from a group but I have never tried joining a zerkers group. Is that good armor for an elementalist? Sorry i know that is a broad question..

This is really just a PvE set at this point (I do almost no WvW but if this set will work there all the better). For this set I looked at my bank and chose what I hoped was a decent DPS-centric set based on what I could afford. My plan is now to take this toon into some dungeons so I can get the bankroll back up. I was just hoping I didn’t make a mistake dropping the ~20g on this only to have a set that was too far off meta or not really that useable in dungeon settings.
As a side note, I haven’t hit any dungeons with this yet, but for what it is worth, the rock dog is awesome in open world settings because he takes a lot aggro so I can side strike and backstab really easily. Kind of a nice bonus for a cheap set of runes.

It’s a bad armor for elementalist. Burning is your main condition, and that doesn’t apply a lot of damage. Just go for Berserker, it’s significantly better.

This is a ~15% DPS loss compared to Scholar or Strength (no joke). That’s quite a bit, and is definitely not worth it. Shake It Off on warrior or Purging Flames on guardian are sufficient for condition cleanse— you don’t need the trooper runes at all.
Not to mention the regular condi cleanse that Elementalist already has:
Healing Rain, Cleansing Wave, Magnetic Wave, Phoenix, Cleansing fire, Fire VIII, Water X

Guard you can have purging flames to cover most situations. Absolute resolution in virtues makes your virtue cleanse 3 conditions instantly. Between the two I don’t feel it’s worth locking yourself into that DPS loss.
Both are things you can take when you need them, and drop when you don’t. So flexibility and more damage with that option.

Condi and dungeons don’t mix unless you’re doing it solo, they really screwed up on conditions in this game.

Don’t run in assasin gear on thief, because just by the traits you get a lot of crit chance anyway (Keen observer 5%, Side strike 7%, Flanking strikes 5% + Fury 20%), Disc. banner, Spotter and foods increase it even further.
As for runes, ruby is a lot cheaper option than Ogre and it has 0% chance to screw up things without that random minion spawn.
The rest is just a matter of time and gold.

Scholar is almost always the top DPS. Strength is close, but good on might-stacking classes like ele or war if they are spec’ed to stack might— and anyway they’re 17 gp a piece, so affordability is much rougher. Ranger is a good alternative for some classes, and is actually better than Scholar on Mesmers in most situations— it has the advantage of being super cheap as well.
Honestly I would recommend (stealing this advice from some other folks on the forum) using Flame Legion runes till you can afford Scholar. This is probably a ~5-7% DPS loss compared to Scholar, and they’re super cheap (4-5 silver a piece).
Scholar Runes can be crafted with level 400 in the tailor discipline. 1 charged lodestone, 1 bolt of gossamer, 1 elaborate totem. If you craft everything on your own (including upgrading two cores to a lodestone) you can save some money this way.
I’d add that Scholar is a safer investment than Strength. Strength has become what many consider overpowered in SPvP as it’s letting players build tanky and makeup for the lost damage with Might. So it could be due for a nerf.

Drop your Precision signets for something else.
Thieves are definitely worse case for this though but in general pugging you can’t expect spotter or even discipline banner all the time.
If you’re running in a premade though, you can fork up the money for Scholar runes after 1 tour and should be fine with even ruby orbs before that to minimize cost on overriding the runes with Scholars after your tour.
