casuals take heart
You will fail at everything when taking time into account.
Good for you guys. I, however refuse to predict where you will fail, but you need 5 for a few of the puzzles in a few paths, so consider grooming some folks from your friends list for the fifth wheel in your runs.
A guardian would fit nicely, provide some reflects to make a few things easier, and generally make any melee you have to do a bit more survivable with a bit of extra offensive support. But since you are running ad hoc, just make sure it’s someone you CAN fail with, without a subsequent freak out.

Time probably isn’t one of their priorities as is PhD not one of many people’s priorities in their education.

They have rangers. Should be fine, albeit a little long.
You will not fail anywhere, all dungeons are perfectly doable with basic gear and at their appropriate level.
I predict they’ll fail at level 50 fractals.
Not to mention level 9001

‘Take heart casuals, you are not alone! For I am casual too! and there are many casuals out there!’
Well, wow. I thought everyone was hardcore and that A-Net was catering to hardcore players and making hardcore content and quality dungeons. Hah. haha. Ha. Ha. …. Hah.

You guys should try out Citadel of Flame path 1. Maybe you’ll be able to beat my group’s world record even!

I would love to comment on this, but I’m not even really sure what the point is or where you are trying to go.
Casuals need not take heart, as they are surrounded by casuals. We are the minority, the true, the brave….. the elitists.

Yeah what is the point of this thread? Casual dont even come to the dungeon subbforum besides to complain so they will never see this.

Dont believe the hype on these forums about how hard it is.
There is no hype on this forum that dungeons are hard. Half the people on this forum have resorted to making our own challenges. The only people that think dungeons are hard are the people that reject dps builds.
If it weren’t for this forum, I’d probably still be running pvt that my first guild told me was the best (yes, they ALL ran pvt). A year later and most of them still think dungeons are hard and arah takes a minimum of 2 hours. There is a correlation.

Soothes the mind hearing that.
Has anyone group tried a speed run in all PVT gear just to see the difference in time for any given dungeon. Say CoF P1?

They probably will do it even faster, since them pvt people aren’t always downed or dead like them zerkers!!! I’m guessing clerics gear would go something like that 44 minute cof run they posted earlier.

I volunteer as tribute! I mean…. mesmer.
If you wanna give it a go I have a full set of PTV gear sitting in my bank (with a couple of trinkets to boot)
It would be cool to have back-to-back runs. One with full PTV and one with full zerk. Maybe if we get bored after arah?

I actually have PTV gear as well that I mix in for my WvW build… Hm.. Tee doesn’t have any but he can use his condi gear to simulate wet noodle lol.
Sure why the hell not. I will have tee stream it so we can see how long it takes. We will do it as if we were speed running and see what happens time wise. To pain and torment we go!

Also, while they may not necessarily fail it, CoE p1 will take much longer than necessary.

Someone else already pointed this out but: That will most likely only be doable if you have at least one ranger that can use their pets to eliminate the control in the room after the boulders. Otherwise you’re pretty much screwed.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.
A long and tedius journy that is still not finished.
Remaining to be done:
CoF 2/3
CoE 1/2/3
Arah 1/2/3/4
Fractals: swamp and jade maw I think
The usual four man 2 ranger/1 thief/1 warrior for HotW. We did not enjoy final boss of path 3. Our warrior friend dinged 80 and helped us finish CoF1. Though now I wonder was it possible to get los on and range the lock? Does not matter … each path only once.
Seems to be getting slightly harder now though CoF1 was a cakewalk and a welcome break. We walked into Arah never having been there before and stumbled our way to Lupi. Guess we should have been killing those grubs. It will take a bit of work for us to get that one. A truely horrible post but I will follow it through. Maybe it will encourage some to give it a try when they otherwise would not have. If my wife, two children and myself can do it anybody can. They wont let me quit! Have to finish what I started they say! So cruel.

I didn’t realize it was your wife and kids whom you were dungeoning with. That’s pretty awesome.
It is pretty awesome. They dont find it tedius they high five and cheer when we finish a ath. I join in. I only find it tedius because I kittened up and logged 2600 hours in gw2. This was supposed to be casual I kittened it again. Wow and Eve same. They are doing it casual so Im happy.
But I came back to edit because TA the new path still remains I forgot about that one. Cant be lying. Peace.

bump… thanks for your support… I tend to underestimate the humanity of the players on this forum
my apologies
Only the legendary halls of Arah await us now. What challenges will we face inside and is this where we will finally meet our ends?
things that have stood out as difficult for us so far:
cof path3 when you must kill five(?) waves of flame legion without wiping to continue
coe Subject Alpha for various reasons we chose to kill it without stacking on paths 2/3… twenty wipes before we mastered this… to bad we wont be reusing our hard won skill
The new reactor fractal final boss fight with the disapearing floor…. probably twenty wipes with only one kid and myself surviving… the other kid died five seconds before… so close
Aetherblade Path… ooze kiting twenty wipes… Slick and Sparky twenty wipes… Clockheart ten wipes… spread over three attempts… on the third attempt of the dungeon we beat everything on first try except Clockheart which took us two tries… so I guess we did master the place in the end
I question how casual the Aetherblade path was. Maybe not casual at all. Coe was not too bad as we could have upped our dps and gotten a fifth to stack Alpha I believe.
Noteable moments:
CM path 3 I ask kid#1 why he didnt shadow refuge kid#2 when he was downed RIGHT beside him

sorry i cut the post off phone problems… so notable moments makes no sense
I could never truly dungeon run with family members.
used to do it in gw1 and my ex at the time just used to look over at me in shame. Now I get to scream at her on skype ’ SKRUB GET GUD" Then say im sorry I didnt mean it and give her 10g/order her candy to shut her up.
Congrats Slither, and good luck with Arah!

Is this some sorf of lets get together family training thing? Reminds me of my childhood when me and my 2 sisters had to practise building a tent in under 40s. Dad wanted to make sure we get the camping trip right ofc :P
I married a BearBow. Then we had BearBow junior. Then the other child made the exact same character I first made which was a male asuran thief. Too bad I suck on thief and could give no good examples of how to play. Life would be easy if they were all warriors but you deal with what you have. Spouse is a zerker BearBow at least and the only time I got kind of annoyed with BearBow was when trying to pop the hologram on Clockheart while my BearBow kept kiting Clockheart away. Bearbow Junior spends 3/4 time in sword so good there and have switched him to more of a zerk build as he has moved away from using any contions. Still has his Barkskin so didnt change his style any. My little thief
asked about being a guardian so I ground his lvl 10 guard to 75 which he finished off. He used guard to do Aetherblade.
Kid#1 lets Kid#2 die right beside him without bothering to even drop his shadow refuge. I ask why he didnt and got no response so I look over and Kid#1 is is completly engrossed in an Archie comic auto attacking the final boss. Wasnt aware of anything outside the comic at all. Sound like some pugs you know?
Bearbow Mom is getting frusterated during a path and states that she doesnt even like tbis kitten game. Kid1 and Kid2 took it personally and said fine you dont want to be here we and proceeded to vote kick Bearbow Mom. Bearbow Mom suddenly finds herself outside the dungeon wondering what happened. I tell her and she is not impressed. The dungeoneering was suddenly over that weekend. Dont be pulling Mom aggro. Dont vote kick your mom it dont end in your favor.
cof path where you have 60secs to gather components for the kaboomium Kid2 says after we failed to four man it once… why dont we all preposition ourselves at the pickup points before you start it…. mmm smarter than me already?
kid1 makes a necro and goes ac story… proceeds to drop the staff aoe’s onto the casket before it is opened… mmm efficient…. also smarter than me already?
I was a god guide at first but they moved beyond that. Which is good because sometimes its all I can do to keep myself alive. Ill still try and tell them what to do once in a while but they dont listen. Its good they have developed there own things which get the job done. They have started to use the jungle cat pets mighty roar after I finally asked them to. They do choose to listen sometimes.
Probably had to be there.
Oh and their Aunt. Aunty Warrior is our fifth sometimes. Vengance! Vengance! Always use vengance at every opertunity even if someone is only one tick away from reviving you.
“Dad…Aunty used vengance again should I revive her?” and me “…………………no” in a quiet sad voice. “I just push all the buttons when Im downed” aunty said when I asked.

Please, don’t post stuff like this in the morning, I’ve got the whole office looking at me questioningly for laughing out loud . It sounds like so much fun (at least reading it … I guess if my kids started vote-kicking me it would take some days before I could see the fun in that situation ).
May I ask how old your kids are? My girls are just starting to get into the game, both playing asura (elementalist for the older one and bearbow for the youngest ), but far from entering dungeons yet. Unfortunately their dad refuses to play the game (he’s more into “serious” MMOs he says), but reading your posts I’m actually looking forward to 3-manning some dungeons with the girls one day.
