So i did the daily fractal of the swamps today and afterwards i started exploring the mount maelstorm map and i think the jurney itself to reach a location in the real (fictional) world of tyria that is facility and has a story in itself is what makes dungeons truly special and slay fractals which are some random chunks with no connection in between them to the point that it feels pretty meh just running them- you enter the fractals lobby and u go to the islands and nothing more no immersion no exploration ,nothing going on.

And this is where I think anet went wrong with the 5 man content i dont see what is the problem putting the new ai in a new story that is somewhere on the map that has some architecture surrounding it making it feel like an you are going into an epic adventure how raids are at this moment. I know the reason is probably optimizing costs but thats just my 2 cents.

So what do you guys think about dungeons vs fractals do you like fracs more? if so why?

The longer fractals (like Cliffside and Snowblind), when they were released, actually lived up to that feeling of exploration and getting inside the world of Tyria that dungeons had – up to a certain point of course – it wasn’t storytelling properly said, but it was indirect exposition, much like the Souls series, and it was great at it.

But, due to a combination of boredom over replaying it over and over again, and also ( specially so) due to no incentive at all to do them, but rather to actually just triple swamp all day long and forget the “journey” fractals, they became what they are today. This is sad because GW lore in general (including 1 and 2) is so rich that they could have turned fractals into a literal maze stockfull of different scenarios and “mini dungeons” with little to no effort [in creating cutscenes and the like], since they could just lay out the scenario, insert enemies with meaningful dialogues and let the story tell itself. Somehow, I still have hope they catch up and make Fractals live up to its initial proposal.

Fractals are simply easier to design and sustain. There was a dev post somewhere that went into more detail.

Dungeons are pretty much dead to Anet for now lol

Doing Snowblind for the first time was awesome. an amazing experience. better than any dungeon. I would pay good money to just get a bunch of great fractals like that.

anyway one of my main gripes with both dungeons and fractals is that they are totally linear. Dungeons are slightly less so, especially AC, but still usually very linear

btw molten facility is my favorite boss fight
