failing cliffside arm seal fractals at 20
No, i have never come back from messing up the arm seals. ever. spent hours sometimes trying. Too much can go wrong. You’re bound to have one squishy or two in your party, and those will go down. Then while you are trying to pick them back up, you go down. dominoe effect ensues.
What i usually do is target one enemy, then say in party, in all caps, caps are important: DO NOT CHANGE TARGET, THIS TARGET DOES NOT DIE.
I find most pugs can formulate the idea that the target does not die. anything other than that, and you’re doomed to fail.
This fractal has a 10% passing rate on level 20-29 tier and has been the biggest time sink for me even though it was discussed before the fight to not kill all chanters. I usually use my extra time to do 20s daily and each time I rolled this fractal its bound to fail and end up sinking even more time. There will always be 1-2 guys who do not listen and went on to kill everything even though was instructed to “NOT TO KILL TARGET”. Of course after everything’s messed up, the group would always come out with a bunch of wierd strats and want to try for 5-6 times before giving up. I just gave up totally on level 20+ dailies after failling cliffside on 2 different groups last night. Sanked like 5 hours or so and not getting the daily done. It is always much easier to run 50s or 40s dailies compared to the lower level ones.
Generally you should leave one mob at one of the sides
I’ve done it before in the 20s range with both sides at full mob spawn. Simply fight in the tunnel close to one of the seals, the mobs from the other side won’t aggro you there.
When you first enter the tunnel between the two paths, stay around the area where the hallway turns right. If you stay there then the mobs from the other seal won’t attack you. Charge up the hammer on the left side and when you need to, run to the right, hit the seal, and then run straight back (bonus points if you have ash legion spy kits) where the mobs that chase you will deaggro.
Next time I’m in cliffside I’ll take a screenshot of the ideal area to stay in.
Oh and it helps if the one who runs to hit the right seal has utilities that will help him move faster and stay up, elementalists are pretty good for this, especially with their lightning flash.
Guys, don’t you know that NOT killing both is a horrible exploit and ANet will ban you and your kitties from playing on the internets ever again?
In all seriousness, No, i’ve never been able to recover from messing up the seals.
We did recover once, but it was hard, lost like 30ish min only on that seal. Basicly we had auromancer with us who switch to staff and activate magnetic aura (reflecting projectiles) with low cd, guardian with reflecting shild, and good party. One of players went to right room and he kited chanter there around some small pillar, rest of us went kaboom on both side and we did it TO do that on 30 is like impossible, those mobs HURT!

I enjoyed this comment immensely XD
I myself haven’t messed up the seals yet so I cannot comment. @40+ so far not had issues for that part.

arm seals have the famous "leave 2 alive! strategy…..
Its not the only working strategy, you can do it till 26 (did it with a full light armor party with 3 GC) at least, even if you killed both rooms.
But chances are high that if your team fails into such easy tactic, is a bad group.
Another strategy if you mess up is keeping 2 tanks on a room to prevent healing and 3 on the hammer.
This requires teamplay and be sure you will fail with any teams that messed up >.>.
Also doing it without a tactic (running from room a to can be done at least until 28…..you just have to stay Always alive and don t make your party lolse time to ress from downed.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Just finished a level 30.
Some idiot killed the marked mob, it took a while but we managed to get through.
With a really good group, you can make up for this … but if you have a good group, people don’t just kill the 2 chanters at both sides. So if you fail at keeping one alive, nah, you won’t recover, you’ll fail. If you see that, just abandon your run.
Worst thing ever, pugs won’t listen, causing a wipe, and then bug happens : adds won’t reset. You can’t try it again, you’re doomed to fail and quit your fractal run.

As I just mentioned.
In my last run (level 30) our necro killed the marked mob.
A few minutes later we were moving on to the final seal.
If you ever run into that situation, just bunker up in the tunnel. There is a short down time between respawns that’ll allow one of you to run to the seal and smash it before the respawn take out your group.
Its possible to do it without keeping one side alive, but it is significantly more difficult. Unless i have had superb experience with the group before arm seals (i always pug), then i ll just leave. If people aren’t willing to listen im not going to waste time explaining tactics to them.
Had a group like that yesterday. We said, ‘dont kill at left seal’, and of course 3 other people went after hammer carrier and killed the chanters at left seal. Wipe occurred afterwards obviously, and I left. Shortly afterwards i get angry whisper from one of the guys, and whats funny, few hours later, he s still trying to find group for the same level. Guess i know who was the weakest link.
So in short – unless you know beforehand that your group is amazing (and there are such PUGs in which you complete cliffside, dredge, swamp and maw in less then an hour), and you fail at arms seals, dont waste your time.
