Q:
favored classes/builds for fractals
It really depends on the fractal level.
At higher levels boons get stolen by bosses and used against your group so boons are a bad thing which is hard thing for people to get used to.
The Zerker meta is great for lower level Fractals your in – kill boss and trash – your out fast and get your loot.
I have run my Zerker Mesmer up to level 86 so far and It gets really hard to run Fractals that high.
Bigest prolems so far for me in Fractals is new players running a fractal and not informing the rest of the team that they are new and don’t know what to do So we have to carry them through it which is not fair to the rest of the team.
Also people who go into higher fractals with out the proper AR thinking they will just dodge it or people will just res them if they go down this also is not fair to the team.
My Advise is get into a Guild that is willing to take you along and teach you the ropes then when you are comfortable enough you can PUG them with confidence.
Also read this wiki on fractals it tells you all the info you need to know.
For low/mid-tier fractals: Zerk. Anything berserker is good. Can even run with 3 rangers 2 Necros, it seriously doesnt matter.
For high lvl fractals, 75+ you actually need to adjust team comps in order for it to go smoothly. I usually find myself wanting Mesmer, Revenant, Elementalist Warrior and Engi.
I’m personally running Viper Engi so I’m along with the Elementalist are getting HUGE dmg buffs from the close to perma quickness. Banners from the warrior coupled with the boon duration from herald results in perma 25 might, quickness and fury uptime. Engineer and Ele just has the highest dmg atm with the nerf to burnzerkers.

With the over 3k toughness bosses have, engi and necro are coming out on top for damage, with condi warrior/ranger/guard etc up there. With fried dumplings and quickness a PS war gets out 25 might without the rev boon duration, and you can take something like a ranger to give out some group fury at the start of or during fights.
This is more complex than I realized, but then that’s why I asked. So it seems condition damage is more useful in the advanced fractals because of bosses having alot of toughness, but I’m getting a mixed read here on boons.
It’ll probably be a while before I can get to the 75+ range anyways, but I want to start preparing now for those, and build the character in that direction.
If the mobs do not have stability, just buff boons left right and centre and cc them. Even if its a boss, quite frankly just put on some prot and run condi builds.
Necro. My build varies depending on the fractal. For dailies though, power/condi dmg necro pulls through. Summons + huge aoes with staff is great for lvl 60 if you do 60 instead of 77.
I thought mobs didn’t increase their toughness past level 50. I remember Anet patching it.
They don’t, the mobs just have ridiculous toughness levels anyways. At 50 archdiviner has ~3600 toughness. Power classes just get a big nerf to damage. And if you play any fractal where the enemies get boons, then prot is taking off 33% of your damage after toughness takes off so much.
