hi; im a fractal… well… not a newb… but not… good
im looking for a shopping list of consumables; was wondering what people found useful? potions/those other wrench ones mainly (which to use; and where); though advice on the food icon ones would be useful too
(my main fractal chars are mesmer and guardian… my ele occasionally and i plan to use my thief a lot once i level (and gear) up)
outlaw/dredge/svanir/elemental slaying potions
endurance food for volcanic’s final boss, the new dragon’s breath bun for dredge clown car/imbued shaman if your class has easy access to vigor/endurance regen.
Something that used to be fairly popular but I seem to be one of the few people I still see using them, Ash Legion Spy Kits for easy button pushing in dredge. They were nerfed, but this is still a 10s stealth for any class.

endurance food = http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bowl_of_Orrian_Truffle_and_Meat_Stew ?
all three of my current classes have vigor on crit and 45-55% (raw) crit rates; so if i dont need vigor; and dont have a lot of mobs to boost dragon bun off (like uncatagorised); what would you suggest?
so elemental potion>grawl potion at shaman? (now that i type that out it seems a bit stupid to ask… so… feel free to ignore)
If you already have vigor use DPS food, some variety of the curry butternut squash soup family.
Add krait potion to the list too, as it is very useful.
Interesting, Outlaw = Ascalon? Would Inquest = golems for uncategorized?

^ this would be useful to know too; enemies should have tags indicating what they are classified as "/
and do cliffside mobs count as outlaws too?

i used to love them before they got nerfed; havent used them since; i suppose i should get a couple for each char though

Outlaw = Cliffside, that’s why they lockpicks and stolen goods bags
Oooo ooo, I have been building this list for my guild from the pieces I can find online, the sigils are not required, but as an Engineer, I can slot out different weapons for different runs, and typically run p/s so it’s a two-fer.
Aquatic ruins: Krait-slaying pot, krait-slaying sigil (on an UW weapon), Mango Pie if dolphin path. With the krait pot, the mango pie increases the dolphin survival a bit, make sure and take kitten of your stats in dolphin form to research it for yourself.
Cliffside: Outlaw-slaying pot, Outlaw-slaying sigil, Omnomberry Compote for health on kill if you need help surviving a bit, or whichever food you prefer. I use the boon duration food most of the time. Things that help with wielding the hammer: large health pool, shorten stun duration, and as always, you can dodge to avoid the stun at 30 stacks of corruption.
Snowblind: Sons of Svanir/elemental pots/sigil, picking one or the other is fine, I usually go SoS for both, to make the bossfight a bit easier. I don’t think the Elemental source counts AS an elemental, though, so only the adds would count for the boosts.
Solid Ocean/Maw: Hardened Sharpening Stone, Sigil of Night, Sigil of hydromancy, sigil of Energy. Food for this one is up to you, but as always, more dodges are better, and the Dragon Bun is good for the extra power. I will sometimes take the fire salsa, if I think I will be downed a lot, like in one of the higher level fracs with a ton of agony.
Swamp: For the first part, if you are running a wisp, the orrian truffle stew is VERY useful, since many of the vigor and endurance increases are tied to weapon swaps, crits, etc. I have a passive endurance regen that stacks with this food for +90%, but I have to retrait for it. If you have a hard time avoiding the traps, condition duration food like the lemongrass soup is good, because immobilize is a condition, not a control effect. I know of no useful bonuses in pots for the first part, just the power and precision bonuses. Sigil of the Night for your weapon, since it is a night instance, and/or hydromancy/energy for movement.
Dredge: Someone commented above on the Ash Legion Spy Kit, if it still works, use it, or a thief for the switch. Dredge Pot/Sigil, hydromancy for running bombs (when you pick one up it triggers) and or Sigil of Night. I have heard that people hack this instance, and there is an experimental teleportation gun somewhere in orr that would facilitate this. I refuse to go into more detail, as it is an exploit. A fun food for this is the Fire salsa, which gives you +100% downed health, and more downed damage, so if you are chosen to die on a switch, this will increase the likelihood of a rally. Someone mentioned the dragon bun above for this one as well, since there are SO many mobs to kill, but that bonus doesn’t stack, so a better food might be the ghost pepper popper for chill on crit, or the omnom ghost for healing on crits. Switch out to elemental slaying pots/sigil for the last fight if it is the ice boss.

Urban/Charr: Ghost slaying sigil, don’t worry with the pots, there were some bugs with crafting them, and they require epically expensive mats, so just go with straight damage boosts. For foods, dodge, power or boons all work well, whichever you prefer.
Volcanic/grawl: Grawl/Elemental sigil and pots, grawl for first half, elemental for second. As the post above said, dragon bun for power, but if you are concerned about the lava elementals rooting you, the lemongrass soup is good for reducing the 1 second to just above half a second. Sigil of energy for extra dodges on those agony arrows, or Sigil of Night for the flat DPS bonus, as it is a night instance.
Uncategorized: I argued with a guildie about this the other night, I am about 50/50 on whether it is even worth equipping the pot/sigil combo for this fractal since most of your damage comes from indirect effects (or harpies) if you are dodging the Kitten bots at the end. As an engineer, I run with sigil of air/force for this frac so I don’t have to think about it much, with boon food and maintenance oil to up my crits.
Make sure to read the wiki write ups and look for profession specific guides for each member of your party, if you are pugging (god help you), be patient, and try to communicate with others, as they will expect things from you. Always ask them to elaborate if you don’t fully understand, it is better to be called a noob and live than to just rush in and have a cascade rage quit.
Also, while this board is useful for some things, there are a lot of DPS snobs here that value that over everything else. That is fine for them, but don’t take anyone’s criticism personally about your gear or your techniques, etc. Do try to learn and get better, but just because you don’t do it the way the DPS Kiddies say is the MOAST EFISHUNT, doesn’t mean you are doing it wrong.
And finally, learn from wipes. If you wipe, check your combat log (such as it is), and try to replay the encounter isolating what the issues were. If you are serious about getting a lot better, record your encounters and replay them to watch what everyone was doing, not just you, and this will help you learn things like boss wind up animations, timing of stages, what certain buffs/debuffs look like, how much damage you are doing with your weapon set/pots/etc. We tend to get battle blind while fighting, and watching the fight later lets you see it more objectively.
