how many AR you need for fotm 11 +
5 will do until about lvl 15 then i’d shoot for 10/15, obviously the more you have the less trouble you will have and the less worried you will need to be about dodging agony abilities.
The max you can get now is 30(afaik). Back and rings can be infused to have a base of 5 AR plus the infusion slot. Dulfy.net has a very good write up on how to infuse each piece, but keep in mind that infused rings “can” drop from 20 plus fractals so you don’t really need to infuse your rings if you are feeling lucky.
crickits 80 ranger
crickets 80 warrior – current main
You need 10 AR after 10 and 20 AR after 20.
Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
You don’t need any for 10to19, but 5 will help you a lot until you learn how to avoid agony.
For 20to29, you’ll need atleast 10-15AR to survive the Jade Maw and 25-30 for level 30+.
Since I got no rings for my first 8 dailies, you need 0 for a while (no, I was not wasting 100g+ on a zerker quiver)
Having 5 AR is a great help for certain bosses from 10-19, especially as you learn mechanics of agony attacks, but it’s not really necessary.
Having 10 AR from 10-19 means you can pretty much ignore agony.
Having 10 AR at L20 is a lot like having 0 AR at L10
You don’t need any AR until like level 30.
10-19 can easily be done with 0 to 5 AR, though once you have 10 it’s nice to be able to ignore agony.
At 20 if you only have 10 AR you’re gonna take a lot from agony. 15 is enough to somewhat manage, though 20 is recommended.
Since we’re on the subject of infusions, can somebody explain to me the use of offensive infusions? The cost of making such an infusion seems too high for its’ benefits. For example the Malign Infusion grants +5 condition damage, and +5 agony resistance, but requires a huge amount of materials to make. While a versatile simple infusion gives you the same agony resist without the negligible condition damage for 75 fractal pieces. Why would I choose an offensive or defensive infusion if I can easily buy one from Deesa?

I guess if every other part of your gear is as good as it’s going to get, might as well.
haven’t really need any AR yet and i’m up to lvl 18…i depends on what class you’re playing… i play a ranger so i’m far from agony most of the time and just dodge the attacks that have agony…. but if u want to know AR+15 makes u unkill able when Jade Maw agony’s you
Rings only used to drop for 10+ so that’s what they’re balanced for.
You can get up to level 20 without any AR….but it’s not very forgiving. It’s not super hard….but not ideal. 5 or 10 is recommended.
For 20+ you really want 15 or more AR. Things are balanced around 15 AR. 10 or less means you’ll die a lot more.
For 30+ you really want 25 or more.
You don’t “need” AR, but you’re making the encounters much more difficult if you don’t have the required level.

Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
So based on the description of some of the posts above, the agony effect is a big jump from level 19 to level 20, and it pretty much stays the same between level 10 to level 19, is this true?
