how to get started with raiding.
“swing my shiny new bolt”
No one gives a kitten in raids, or otherwise about overglorified pixel items that literally don’t mean jack kitten. (Mostly folks with legendaries are horrible players, be it communication vise, or overall gameplay, at least from my experience)
However, after this “rant” i’ll give you an actual advice.
As a true condi warrior, there are groups that will take you for wing1.
If i’m going for progression run, i would not, since i tailor raid-compositions around meta, and you as a condi warr don’t fit in.
With that, go to metabattle and check what you can play, and whats wanted
You yourself need to be willing to adapt & change in order to raid.
That’s gonna happen in every single MMO, not because of, what you folks don’t seem to get, it’s not due to principle of the “raids”, it’s due to the mindset of the pugs. Everyone wants to feel ‘safe’ and in "control’ when they’re running a pug with people that they don’t know, thus there will always be HIGH DEMAND for classes that’re “trustworthy”
I myself have swapped classes, simply because there’re ones that i’m horrible when it comes to playing them, or they simply don’t have the utility that’s required, for example Condi Engineer, there’s no need for them, Necro does the job better, and condi druid as well.
~ So yeah, find a class that you can play with (that’s on metabattle, for raids etc), get it properlly geared (no i don’t mean ascended, they’re mostly not needed, wep and trinkets however are WANTED) “gear it properly” stat wise, and simply type something among these lines
LFG – VG/Gorse/Sab // EXP Druid
And when you get some kills, it’ll be like
LFG – Full W1 // Eternal Druid, 60li
Remember that LFG is advertisement, make it as shiny as possible.

This is nothing personal, but I have to say this kittenes me right off. I spent 2 years working toward this thing and finally get it.
Again nothing personal, speaks volumes about how badly Anet treats legendaries, they should either put some REAL tangible, measurable advantage into having them, or STOP kittenG CALLINGL THEM LEGENDARY! they at the moment are exactly what you said, lack luster, over pixilated, unjustifiably difficult to obtain EXOTICS!
If I were in charge i’d throw some stat increases at them, or down grade them to what they ACTUALLY are.
the reason I finished mine is a) got hella lucky and got zap out of the mystic toilet, and b) i wanted to finish what I started.
rant over. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

I agree completely, a “LEGENDARY” should be an item that is VERY, VERY, VERY RARE, and DIFFICULT to obtain, otherwise it’s not legendary at all if EVERYONE can have it, and EVERYONE can have it with given some amount of time.
Legendary item should prove certain amount of skills that player posseses, here it’s just a “here you go, grind this, grind that, and you’ll have a new pixel” which’s wrong.
Personally i believe that Anet, targets “casual” players, or “players” overall who have zero to none experience in MMOs, (WoW, etc), or are sorry to say but “rejects” from WoW (who constantly moan about not being able to keep up with the game etc), and sells them dust, they’ve been known to lie in ads, MOST LIKELY DUE TO LACK OF COMMUNICATION within their team, and with all talk of the team-restructure etc, but yeah, i personally do believe that anet, sells a lot of dust/words ’n thats about it
Lately they’ve gotten a bit better, so there’s praise for that
Anyhow, as for you and raiding itself, listen right now i do wings1 simply out of fun, multiple clears for lols etc, Contact me in game // Sillytune.1580 if you’re TRULY interested into GETTING into mindset of Raids // Raiding, i’ll help you out
I’m a guild/raidleader of couple of folks who’ve pretty much started as you, and we’ve gotten to the point of having both wings farmed on 1 night, and well wiping 2 hours on gorseval because hey lets figure out how do people do the no-updraft thing, when we’re bored.
Cheers
I’m currently playing a condi/crit warrior. Which I’m sure ya’ll are bout to dump on me for playing. (Considering how questions go in /m in LA.)
My main question is, i’ve been running fractals like there is no tomorrow. They dont seem challenging enough for my tastes. Still find them fun though.
I’m not looking for a “challenge” where you just throw your body at a mob till it dies, nor overly mechanical challenges, where im left constantly dodging kitten and never able to swing my shiny new bolt at the boss. But rather longer fights, with higher rewards.
However what I’m not looking forward to is “world of warcraft” stat/gear/build checks where if I’m not the “raid cookie cutter build” im a pleb unworthy of participating. I loath this kind of crap. That said though I think people need to be serious about their builds and make them work as best they can.
Yes im picky.
What suggestions do you have?
I’m currently in a “Friendly” guild what does little to no…ok they really dont do any grouping content whatsoever aside from guild challenges on the weekends.
I think many groups would accept the condi PS warrior variant, especially on VG or Matt.
Solutions to starting raids include finding a raiding guild, joining (or starting) a training run, or hopping into a pug with low requirements.

While it’s true that a huge variety of builds are viable in raids, if you’re in a situation where 9 people are spending time teaching you about the encounters you should probably just use whatever they recommend for the time being. It’s going to be much easier for other players to give you advice if you’re playing something that they themselves have used, and if you fit into a role that they are used to. I know that if a warrior main in my guild wanted to learn how to raid and I got a group together to help, I would be pretty kittened if he threw a fit about having to bring banners or wouldn’t bring leg specialist to help hold a spirit at gorseval because they don’t want to lose the empower deeps. The way to show you’re not a pleb is to work well with the team and have a good attitude while you learn the encounter.
My advice is to play the cookie cutter crap (or whatever is recommended to you) at first because it’s the easiest way to learn, and once you have a good idea of what the encounters require you can start switching up your build. Most of the classes have a LOT of room for variation and different builds work for different players. Just don’t be surprised if you’re playing nothing but standard PS war and condi PS for a while when you start out.
Good luck!
There’s plenty of build diversity in raids but the point is you should know the class and the encounter and see if you need to tailor your build according to the respective mechanics. There’s a difference between using a different build to combat some mechanics or just using a different build because you don’t like being the same as others. As you have no clue about the mechanics and no experience fighting the bosses, surely the best thing you could do is as Dinosaurs says, start with a cookie cutter build (PS) and then see whether the team is lacking something after having a few attempts at the boss once you actually know why you want to change your build.
You can roll nonstandard builds, but you need to have several builds, to fit what the team needs. And they need to be effective. Beware that some groups only run strictly defined builds and team compositions.
also there are a lot more kind of standard builds now than there used to be, as people have realized that a lot of things can work well
