how to incentive story dungeon runs: give karma as a reward
I support this idea. I have a few story modes I’d like to do but no one is interested in story mode anymore.
Make a HUGE chunck of karma imo. As people can probably zerg Orr for more karma/better loot per hour than doing a whole dungeon for 1-2K measly karma.
yeah, it would have to be an equivalent amount of karma as spending all that time in Orr, but then you’d need to apply DR so people can’t abuse a single dungeon.
Give a large amount, say 2-3K Karma, for doing story mode, but you can only get it once per day.
I don’t think karma is reward enough for doing story modes.
I still have a couple I want to do as well, but it’s next to impossible to find a PUG to do them.
^ you need an insane amount of karma to get legendaries, as well as some exotic gear with fancy status setups on Orr (and in the future, in other places). right now, people farm karma in Orr because of the bonus reward, but as a result, people aren’t seeing the rest of the world, or playing story dungeons.
if you give them story dungeons as a way to farm karma just as effectively, even in a once per day per dungeon way, people would try them.
The amount of Karma you get should scale with your level. For instance, at level 80, you should get roughly the same amount Karma you get if you farm Orr for about an hour, while a level 30 character would get the amount of Karma that one would obtain from running events in a level 30 zone.

that could work too, though i’m trying to remember what was the original incentive to do story dungeons for players that weren’t in it for, you know, the story :P
Karma isnt a reward unless it’s a massive chunk, in which case people would just abuse it.
i would rather farm Orr & get level 80 loot in the process of my karma farming.

Besides for the story, completing Story also unlocked the capability to do Explorable mode. However, you can do Explorables without doing the Story if someone in your party has the unlocked the ability to do Explorables.

which in turn kind of ruins the point of unlocking explorable modes. i have a friend that farmed CoE (farmed) and only did story mode after he was done with it, because why not.
I do agree— that kind of gating would have made sense if GW2 was maybe a year or so old, but this early? It doesn’t make sense.
On the other hand, if you’re into that achievement thing, you would also have to do Story Mode for your Dungeon Master achievement.

yeah i did for achievements and the story, but many aren’t into either. there has to be an incentive for people that want proper rewards. and it is my opinion that karma would be the most non-intrusive to the economy way to implement it without turning story mode into an easier explorable path with lamer rewards.
Apparently they’ve relaxed the previous nerf to story mode pay-offs. I re-ran dungeons today that I’d got horrible rewards from before (such as less than a silver at lvl 44), and got decent payout.
It’s not so bad the way it is. At least not the punishment it was before.
Karma gains would be an amazing incentive, especially since dungeons are similar to running a chain of events but with limited people and some modicum of difficulty.
Or give story modes a chance to drop ectos. or vanity pets.
i guess at least everyone agrees that there has to be a non-monetary reward that aren’t tokens, in order to make story dungeons tempting for multiple runs without shadowing explorables.
This seems like a good call. I ended up stuck with a pug for CoF that could not get into the instance because all 5 of us had not done story yet. None of them wanted to do the story mode, they instead wanted to break group and find people that had already run it. I have been looking for a story group for that instance for days, but no one really wants to do it because there’s very little incentive.

really? going back to LFG instead of solving the problem? and especially in such a fun dungeon? :/

Just a byproduct of people wanting to find the shortest path to gear (CoF path 1 in this case). I did see somewhere that they are going to adjust rewards for story mode so hopefully that’ll help.

SM is sometimes harder and much much longer than EM with no reward so people skip it. I would too, already did ALL SM’s on my main and would rather not do them again.
