EU servers awesome check US no server has CoF opened the events are started and the npc is taking a dirt nap lol

Maybe everyone is just standing around waiting for everyone else to do the event.

There’s a 100% intended method of getting through the gate without having to do the event. Use Whirlwind or teleports just to the right between the gate and the wall and you’ll find yourself able to open the dungeon, takes a bit of practice though. This is clearly 100% intended as ArenaNet would have fixed it otherwise….
