For people in EU who play on NA, and NA who play on EU … what’s the latency like? Left my old guild so don’t really feel I have any ties anymore to my server so was thinking of transferring to NA so that I could see if the PUG experience was any better (I hope it’s better than … abysmal) and I’d get to play with some more of you guys, especially since I finish work at stupid o’clock which will be when you americans will be on since you’re like five hours behind, provided I don’t just faceplant on my bed out of exhaustion all the time.

It’s a shame most of the servers are very high, it’s going to be a pain transferring.

TC , BG and JQ are the best servers for any content . I don’t know about EU pugs but NA pugs aren’t bad . I pug 90% of my runs and never had a problem
Except for slow boss kills because of PVT or cleric people besides from slow kills Pugging is fine . Just be sure to be cool or lead the party if they are new to dungeons.

Oceanic here playing on EU. Transcontinental locations usually add 100-200ms delay in general. If you’re on a wireless connection add 50-100ms. It’s not that gamebreaking but you do have to relearn attack timings.

+1. On top, I find NA pug culture very friendly. Over hundreds of pug runs, I haven’t seen anyone getting kicked mid dungeon. I’ve been playing neverwinter online for a bit and one thing I miss is having everyone speak the same language, which you get in gw2 NA.
Also relevant to your question, I moved from NY (fiber optic) to London (DSL) in April and stayed with HoD server. I havent noticed much of an issue with my gameplay since my move unless I am in a hotel.

I’d join BG, SoR or JQ. Stay away from TC, because dem roleplayers are a weird bunch, and you’ll probably have a higher chance of the ‘I wanna kill everything/play how I want’ crowd.

As for latency, I’m EU playing on NA, and I don’t have many problems with it. I’ll get a fumble dodge (meaning you dodged but still take damage/get hit mid-dodge anyway) every once in a while, or lagg like a mother******, but I’ve gotten so used to it that I time my dodges accordingly.

The only thing I can’t get used to is the skill lagg, and it has killed me on numerous occasions, especially on lupi. Nothing so marvelous as hitting sword #5 when he does his AoE lifesteal and not activating your skill..

So, dodges: okay, skill lagg: pain in the *

How much gold is 1,800 gems? I’m either going to have to grind for it or pay with RL money.

A bit more than 5 gold for 100 gems, so 90+ gold for 1800 gems.

I didn’t say there’s anything wrong with RP’ing. If you want to RP, feel free to do so.

I was saying that some RP’ers tend to have personalities set out for their characters and more often than not it’s going to be a tanky warrior or guardian, or a supportive elementalist etc.

I have yet to hear of an RP’er that makes personalities for his characters that says “my character always runs the most optimal build and likes killing stuff swiftly”.

Dub is right, EU supremacy.

Having been on TC for 11 months now, I would definitely say it’s the California of the NA worlds (sorry that this comparison is probably lost on non-US people). Lots of personality, which makes it a great place to visit, but if you try to pug via map chat, you may think the people you’re working with are a little weird (last time I did that, I got myself into a 25 minute “quick” CoF path 1). I just think of the RPers as extra NPCs that enhance my experience of Tyria.

BG might be a good server to visit.

If you’d like to try out NA, maybe transfer for a medium population server now since it’s free and think about which higher population server you’d want to reside on.

Was thinking of going either JQ, BG or SoR since they’re t1 WvW (you know, if I need my “fix”) and BG has a strong PvE community apparently. Not sure about JQ and SoR, though the latter does have a pretty cool name :p
