scale raid bosses from easiest to hardest
Tier 1 (easy) – Escort, Trio, Cairn, MO, Samarog, Gorseval
Tier 2 (mediocre, there’s some stuff which can go wrong) – Sloth, VG, KC, Sabetha
Tier 3 (in that order) – Xera, Deimos, Matthias
Easy (bosses that PUGs rarely fail): Trio, Escort, Mursaat Overseer, Samarog, Gorseval
Medium (bosses that PUGs can fail easily): VG, Cairn, Sloth, Keep Construct
Hard (bosses that can be an absolute chore to do with PUGs): Sabetha, Xera, Deimos, Matthias
1- Mursaat
2- Escort
3- Cairn
4- Samarog
5- Gorseval
6- Matthias (Easy Mode)
7- Trio
8- Vale Guardian
9- Keep Construct
10- Deimos
11- Sloth
12- Xera
13- Sabetha
14- Matthias (Tryharding)
Easy (bosses that PUGs rarely fail): Trio, Escort, Mursaat Overseer, Samarog, Gorseval
Medium (bosses that PUGs can fail easily): VG, Cairn, Sloth, Keep Construct
Hard (bosses that can be an absolute chore to do with PUGs): Sabetha, Xera, Deimos, Matthias
I like your rubric for distinguishing among hard|medium|easy levels of difficulty. It’s measurable and depends mostly on observation rather than opinion. I also agree that it’s better to group encounters together rather than trying to establish whether VG is absolutely harder than Sloth or not.

People keep saying Deimos is easy, but it’s the worst raid boss to do with pugs by a mile, one fail from the black kite, hand kite or tank and it’s GG, and I’ve been in groups that failed below 10% hp…

On the other hand you only need 3 competent people at Deimos namely the ones you mentionend. The rest can afk dps while doing the boring range strat.
The problem with these lists is they are dependent on people’s different experiences. People pugging will likely have a very different experience from people in static groups.
Also, depending on what group comps you have available in a static you could have dramatically different results. A group without ranged dps will struggle with MO a lot more than a group with some condi ps and maybe a necro.
Lastly, it depends on what class you play. The person who tanks Xera would rate it differently than the person who just hangs out dpsing and follows the commander’s instructions.
The Edge of Oblivion [EDGE]
I put Sloth and KC in their own tier of “Hardest to Pug.” IMO, these two bosses are the perfect storm of Mechanics and Not Being Last Bosses that actively encourage really clueless/bad people to sneak into your group and suck it up… Coupled with the fact that ONE person can actually cause a raid wipe all on their own by doing something stupid like dropping poison, not moving sloth, eating a mushroom by accident, doing something dumb when fixated by a statue, knocking out an orb with their non-passive-set pet, etc…
Also, I don’t get why Matt is listed as hardest by so many people? Sure there’s a lot of unforgiving death mechanics, but he’s also like one of the few bosses where literally 1/2 your raid can be dead at 25% and still end in a win.

Yes, that’s exactly why it’s valuable to state up-front the criteria being used. “Most|least likely to fail PUGs” isn’t the only possible criteria, but it’s easily discussed and is relatively independent of the individual’s personal experience. That’s also why it’s more useful to group the encounters into a few categories rather than trying to find a strict rank — it’s easy to disagree about whether Sloth is harder than VG; it’s easy to agree about whether both fail as often or not.
Other reasonable criteria could be:
- Fewest number of people to successfully complete the encounter
- Fastest speed clears.
- How easy it is to find a group (on the theory that easier encounters fill up more quickly, although of course, that’s disputable).
Easyest —> hardest boss to carry (imo and experience naturally). With this I mean, how hard is it for 2-4 good players to help un-exp or less skilled players. This can be by outhealing when somesome fail to dodge, by doing the few mechanicks (so rest can just dps) or by doing dps while rest just focus on staying alive.
Easy: MO, Cairn, escort, trio.
middle: Samarog, Daimos (easy mode), VG, Gors, Sloth, Mathias
Hard: KC, sab, xera

Because it’s probably the most chaotic fight with the least amount of role specialization. With the exception of reflects every mechanic can happen to anyone and that means in order to prepare for those mechanics everyone has to be ready.

I found his mechanics really easy to understand and straightforward, the one time that I managed to get a group for him. I don’t think I missed a single one.

This is a hard thing to rate as different bosses will be esayier or harder depending on skill level. Sloth is probably the best example. Good groups will kill it in 4 mushrooms no deaths no problems. Poor groups might not even be able to kill it
Darkwood Legion [DARK]
Yak’s Bend
Easy: All of them, except Deimos, Xera and Matthias
Medium: Deimos, Xera and Matthias
Hard: The LFG
