CS is sillier than ever after today’s patch. Between the champ risen wraith that can’t even be approached and the sea of vet spiders Anet is obviously not understanding game balance in open world PvE in an MMO. How about fixing the game sooner rather than later?

I’m curious if anyone during any event has actually managed to kill the 1200 range Life Transfer champ Risen Wraith.
Maybe this is ArenaNet’s method to make Rangers relevant, what with them having the only dps at 1500 range. (LOL)

I am in absolute agreement with everyone that has posted here. Its pretty bad when five of us who have been traveling together for the past three years and work superbly well together get wiped by a regular event..never mind a meta event. It used to be a wonderful challenge before now its just reached a state of fail. My ranger stood there and watched my husband’s mesmer get one shotted by a risen abomination that they added to. He has never taken her back there since…Anet I await your official reply.

After reading this thread and heading to Orr myself, I have to say that camp running the other day was not the same. The mobs were not as terrible as I was expecting but getting downed twice in less than five minutes with my warrior was irritating as heck, when before it was once maybe every hour or so, if that. Haven’t been back since.

I’m scared to run any temples, tbh, if they are as bad as everyone says.

I’m all for a challenge, but the problem is many of the events and pre-events involve protecting helpless NPCs. It’s a DPS check, plain and simple. You can’t kite 20 risen nobles, you can only burst them down before they touch the NPCs. If you don’t have a few good zerker warriors, good luck. The only temple people are willing to do anymore is Melandru because there is no fail state when the NPCs inevitably die. For open world events, I find 10 veteran risen spider hatching a little excessive, but I can sort of understand wanting to slow down pen/shelt farming. However, the meta-events are kitten near impossible to pug now, and I think it has actually driven more people to pen/shelt. 1 guaranteed rare and a few blue/greens for hours of work and many failed attempts, or 30 moldy bags plus whatever else might drop by just spamming aoes? Orr had a lot of problems to begin with, but this patch seemed to just make all those problems worse.

I think we all agree on challenging content = fun, for the most part.

But one-shotting mechanics ? challenging, nor fun. That’s just lazy, crappy design.

I did some Penitent/Shelter last night. At the same time before the patch (8 to 9 PM PDT), I could always count on finding 10-12 players there. Last night there were never more than 4, often just 3 (myself included). The scaling with that few did not produce any Champions, although 2 Vets at a time was a frequent spawn (along with a dozen or more standard mobs). The events were doable and fun at this scaling, although reviving someone downed was often out-of-the-question because of the increased red circles of hate.

It’s impossible to say whether the observed 66% reduction in attendance is a one-time thing or a trend. However, if up-scaling at these events is anything like the tedious mess the Lyssa event has become with a larger number of players, I wouldn’t be surprised to find the reduction is a trend.

Just (barely) failed Melandru on YB. Had the last event down to 30 seconds on the timer, with about 20% hp left on the interrupter, and a small pack of veteran spider hatchlings trashed it. I was on my mesmer, so I thought I’d delay them with Illusionary Wave’s knockback. There were 10 or less attacking it, so I should have pushed about half of the mobs away, yet not a single one budged through 2 uses of IW. I suppose culling is a possibility, but I’m fairly sure some of the visible spiders took damage, but weren’t knocked back. So they seem immune to CC, at least sometimes.

I also had one of them use the immobilize/pull combo (a veteran mob, again) while inside a Feedback bubble. I’m not sure about these spiders, but every other I’ve ran across us a projectile attack for that pull, and it can be reflected.

I really don’t mind these mobs being veterans (some do scale too much, still), but when they become inexplicably immune to the skills we should be using to complete the event, there is a serious problem. This isn’t promoting teamwork/intelligent skill use, it’s punishing it by making proper skill use pointless. There is no reason to give me a knockback or reflect skill, when enemies can arbitrarily ignore those effects.

Please, do us all a favor and demonstrate how pro you are by fighting a champ wraith, rather than making absolutely useless posts on a critical forum thread. Do take a culled plague carrier 40k to the face as well. Maybe a few ranged 20ks by chickens would also contribute to a little humility.

Utterly disappointed at these changes. Harder content is not a bad thing, but this just went off the chart. Never seen Orr so abandoned as it is right now. People are just farming the meta-bosses/events for daily reward chests and doing (YAWNNNNN) CoF path 1.

This is discouraging to say the least. It’s not like the Orr event loots were even close to what you could get elsewhere(yes, looking at you CoF). The Risen Wraith aoe’s are insane during the events. And even more so when some of them get culled away.

First time I’ve ever posted on the forum

Even I’m annoyed by the changes to Cursed Shore. I’m not a fantastic player, otherwise I’d be running fractals and dungeons but thought I’d met a reasonable compromise in playing on the cursed shore map.

I’d created a character strong enough to take the mobs on up to five at a time (sometimes getting killed but that’s part of the game) and generally enjoyed mining the ore and wood because I’m leveling up my secondary characters and they will need exotics.

The recent changes are huge! I’m now dodging events because of the overwhelming champs and I don’t go near stuff like Grenth! Today I had to walk away from an ancient node because it was surrounded by about 7 undead.

So to my point… A-net do not seem to be commenting on the issue which suggests the change is planned and permanent. So what do I do now to get any further in the game? If I am being dragged into a certain area/ behavior by A-net then so-be-it but where is it?

Honestly I kind of doubt that it’s a permanent change. I suspect they are working on revising the event scaling formula now, and aren’t commenting so they don’t have to give an ETA.
Personally I think taking the time to get it right is the correct thing to do, but given the game-breaking nature of the error in the current formula, I believe an apology and a “We’re working on it” is in order regardless.

Yeah, I’ve pretty much agreeing with everyone else. The worst part is some of the events that don’t even involve a chest are this bad as well. Like I was doing Rakkan—the skritt event where he walks past the tar elementals and makes his way to the champion mother drake—and they beefed up the champ a ton and it summons eggs, which turn into veteran baby drakes lol. I mean the most people I have EVER seen do this event on my server was 6 and that was a long time ago. I’m sure the overpopulated servers are handling this kind of silliness fine, but for the rest of us: tone it down. People everywhere are actually talking about switching games because now the one place they can work on their legendary has now been turned into fights that can last half an hour. At that point it has NOTHING to do with skill and everything to do with stamina with a keyboard and/or mouse. I thought this game was supposed to be casual player friendly. Don’t make events that only have 4 people present so overpowered.

Isn’t really any better in high populated servers. We basically can’t see the enemies during most events if there are lots of people. You just get instakilled. Yesterday our server, underworld (HIGH population server) could NOT finish Grenth temple event. I literally camped that event for over 6 hours during evening (thanks to hockey matches :P) and every time we failed around 30sec-3 minutes where you have to defend paperbag Jonez. Fix this already, it’s ridiculous.

The PvE Culling seems to on an auto setting, try reducing graphics and such to improve the amount u can see on your screen. works for me.

I do wish this was the case, that a bit of graphics reduction could fix the pve culling. However, before even posting in this thread I have made every attempt to fix the pve culling. It’s been something of an annoyance to me for quite some time, and I’m willing to play with substandard graphics on a great pc that is more than capable if that would make it so I can see what’s going on and what is attacking me.

The official response in the other thread is seriously lacking. I mean events may not me scaling correctly? Even if they WERE scaling correctly Wraiths and spider eggs should not be doing that kind of extraordinary damage should they? It’s nonsense. And limited to “relatively few spots”? That’s hilarious. It’s all over that I’ve dealt with this. It isn’t one or two events. If that was the case we’d all avoid those events, grump a bit on here, but continue to enjoy this game. Instead this problem is limiting most of Orr for people and making the world events so tedious and time consuming that it’s now unimaginable to do them if you’re a person with a busy schedule. I just don’t understand why a game that once said they’d be friendly toward casual players has gone back on that promise not even a year later…

In the event that the other thread gets buried, I wanted to leave this here as well, as I was hit for 127,000 damage by “Explode” tonight during the altar event at Lyssa (probably a Champion or Veteran Risen Plague Carrier).

Tried Melandru tonight. In the final event, the Champion Risen Spider’s new ability to spew Veteran Hatchlings every x seconds is resulting in huge numbers of mobs. Is it ANet’s intent that Veteran mobs would outnumber the players there by a factor of 3 or 4 to 1? That’s what I saw happening.

This change makes it so that completing the event with just the players who respond to a call-out in zone unlikely. Is this intended?

Whats’ this latest trend with Risen summoning several mobs (or vets) every x seconds? If you’re going to swamp us with numbers, then remove the 5 cap on AoE so we can compete with hordes of summons.

Hey, ArenaNet!

Did you realize that players can complete the monthly Veteran Slayer achievement in about 2-3 events in Cursed Shore at Shelter’s Gate because of the multitude of Veteran Spider Hatchlings that spawn?

You certainly wouldn’t want that to happen so quickly, now would you?!

It’s not just temple events that are suffering. The event where you escort a party from Meddler’s Waypoint to Anchorage Waypoint in Cursed Shore seems impossible now, as the event spawns Risen Nobles which previously did not place hugely damaging AoEs. As a result the NPC group gets downed extremely quickly as the event spawns about 5 of those mobs all of which place the AoEs. The event then fails after about the third encounter, if you get that far, as it’s based on a morale system and can only take about three wipes.

Please test your content guys.

The event Feelm posted about is problematic more for the NPCs’ sakes than players. The few times our server has succeeded in this escort is when we’ve had multiple Guardians with heal builds going and that’s just not right. In a game that has proclaimed that it will be WITHOUT the holy trinity, don’t make an event that requires one piece of that holy trinity: namely healers/heal builds. No one should have to run a heal build for an event because developers’ have granted the NPCs such abysmally low toughness and vitality. Beef up a lot of these NPCs. I know Jonez is an issue, too, but he isn’t the only one.

The only other way my server has succeeded is by actually aggroing the nobles very far from the NPCs, but that requires a pretty substantially sized zerg. This event isn’t scaling properly at all. I’ve seen 20 people do it and it has the same amount of enemies as when one person makes an attempt (not knowing how horrible it is). And now they’ve added a veteran abomination that heads STRAIGHT for the NPCs, pummeling them if by some chance they have lived up until this point. If Arah’s WP wasn’t kept permanently open until the escort was complete and was reset to how it was before, Arah would never be open.

So i just realized. Those vet spider hatchlings popped up in one of my story quests. yeah like 3 of them popped up with stupid amounts of health and their auto attacks are fast and hitting 1.5-2k health each. Also pulling me all over the place so I’m CC’ed like 75% of them time if my stunbreaks are on cd. Not to mention dying at that stage means having to do a 5 min swin back to the spot with a bunch of risen that have sink skills, hoping my npcs don’t die before i return (it’s a boss fight that summing a bunch of spiders). WHAT IS TESTING LOL

They are very easy to kill. As soon as the champ risen wraith starts its life steal skill everyone must retreat to a distance over 1200 so it cant heal from the life steal and just wait for it to stop the move and then move in to dps it. Repeat. doesn’t take long to kill it.

Persistence overcomes resistance. In the end, all things you work for can be yours, except in gw2.
