I’m non-100% guild master.
Recruiting becomes hard.
I have 5 non-100% guilds. Their activity is small.
I heard there is system in Guild War1 that is good to all guild.
We – non 100% guild need something more.
I don’t know what can i do more.

I think that all guilds except for the biggest have trouble recruiting and that it’s a full time job.

My guild is pretty successful and it’s also a non-100% rep guild.

We have a hundred people or so that are on every week at least and many who are on each day. Most of them rep.

We run three events a week in order to keep people vested in the guild. 2 are guild missions but one is a community night.

The thing is, a lot of the time it’s about the guild leader. I’m there a lot…and I do mean a lot. There are actually five guild leaders in the guild and four of us are on daily….almost all the time.

By making the guild fun and entertaining and by being helpful, we attract the kind of people we want to attract.

I don’t really want a huge guild with a hundred people on at the same time. I want a group of 20 or 30 that’s always around, and then a cast of people who move through it.

It’s constant work but with so many leaders the work gets split.

WOW Your guild leader is 5. I’m only the one so hard to do this.
We are almost near 300 members. but I can see who always do represent. and less participant because of allowing solo.

As the leader of a small guild (core actives 15-20 per week 10ish daily), here’s my advice.

  • Don’t become a guild leader.
  • Really, don’t. It’s a ton of work, there’s already too many guilds out there, it’s nearly impossible to start from scratch, and unless you have 5-10 people you trust who will never leave you, you’re more likely to fail than succeed.
  • One last try: don’t become a guild leader.
  • BEFORE you try to build your guild, find 2-3 people you trust completely. Ensure they are ready to help you build the guild. Make sure you have the same goals. Make sure you can agree on a set of rules. Make sure you agree on the boundaries you set for your guild. Make sure you agree on how to recruit, train, and maintain players.
  • Now that you have 2-3 people who you trust completely and who will put everything on the line in order to succeed, take the plan you developed with those individuals and act on it. If it’s not working, discuss why it’s not working and adjust.
  • Always give more to your members than they give back to you.
  • It’s NEVER about you, your ego, or your desires. It’s about helping to build a community for your members.
  • Be prepared for the moment that a member you love and consider vital to your guild leaves.
  • Be prepared for the moment that a member becomes toxic, disruptive, and poisonous to your guild. Be prepared for this person to also have friends in your guild.
  • Always be in the loop. Be a voice within your community, network with other guild leaders, and make sure you always know what’s going on in the community before your members.

There’s more, but that’s a decent start.

Is there a high demand for guilds where you don’t group with anybody and mostly play by yourself?

I have run a guild in Guild Wars 1-2 for a decade. I am usually the only leader depending how you would define the term.

Recruiting is your biggest burden. My guild has floated between 150-300 members throughout Guild Wars 2. Luckily I have had some good people willing to help out. I usually have a dedicated “Chief of Staff” that his soul responsibility is to recruit in game and I usually handle the PR outside the game. You should have a clear vision of what kind of community you want your guild to be and what you are out to accomplish. If you want to be a huge guild where people loosely know each-other or you want a community that is more personal and smaller in nature. You need to be able to tell people why you are making a guild in the first place.

Your upper ranks should have a clearly defined job and role in your guild. They should be there because they help you maintain the community, not just because you like them.

Rep in this game, how you handle it, and what you require will make or break your guild. I always felt 100% rep was always to harsh and creates a barrier when you have to make such a commitment, especially for a guild that is just starting. That being said, you also don’t want half, if not a quarter, of your roster not repping at any given time. Roster activity is key in retaining people. You should have a way to clear out people that are not helping keep your roster active. The way I have found to strike a balance with this is…

Have a initiate rank that is specifically there for people to try out your guild without 100% rep. The rest of the ranks above it are to recognize 100% commitment and their level of social participation in the guild. Clear out people who do not rep often and have a clear policy for people to pledge 100% rep and move up.

Have a guest rank. We tend to hold events, especially guild missions every week. We allow anyone to come and they are removed when the event ends. This ensures you always have more than enough personnel to perform but yet keep people off your roster that would not rep often. Repeat guests will return and often end up joining your guild if they like your community.

I think timmyf gave some sound advice. It is never about you, prepare to give, give, and give without ever seeing anything in return. You will have to make tough choices like choosing one sub group of members that are friends over another. You will have members you find important up and leave on you. You will have to be prepared to remove people. You will need to be a people person for every single member.

Hi, my guild is a 100% rep guild, by most standard, it is considered a large guild. You want a huge guild where people loosely knows each other, I do not understand what it means by “loosely knows each other”.

The thing is that, recruitment isn’t hard, is true. There are tons of people to recruit out there.

Just like timmyf.1490 mentioned, it is important to choose the people you can trust to be officers and these people must be willing to put in some efforts to perform their duties. Many large guilds fall for several reasons, some of them fall because they chose the wrong people to trust.

You need to identify the type guild you are trying to create and from there, work towards that direction. If you want to improve the social interaction within the guild, you have to be the one doing it, social interactions are always started by the founders and carried on by the members.

100% rep rules are mainly for guilds who have become so large that the slots become very limited. There are also many guilds who create their form of 100% rep, for example, some WvW guilds expect you to rep them when you are in WvW, that in way is a 100% rep but limited to WvW map.

All new guilds adapt a semi-rep rules standard, you can work on what type of rep standard you want. Most importantly, you need to have a concrete idea on how to transit the guild on every stage. Small guild to medium guild to large guild, each stage has a transition progress, rules and procedures will need to change and adapt for different stage. At all of these stages, you will need to understand that there will be people who will resist the changes, especially some of your older members, if you don’t convince them the changes are necessary, they will become a problem. Also, if you need to discipline individuals for their actions then just do it, do not let individuals going around stirring troubles because these troubles can easily grow and become a real problem for your guild.

A large guild is not easy to manage so don’t try unless you knows what you are doing.
