2 Days
If he needs convincing, he’s already lost.
Show him the mailing system.
I have to ask: Does he live in a dark basement?
We don’t know your friend but things that a quite unique to the game are:
*Jumping Puzzles, maybe even show him a mini dungeon if there is one close by.
*Word Vs. World, there are some intense fights each weekend.
*Armors/Weapons, show off with the stuff you have, it may impress him, show him the trading post and let him look at all the legendaries :P
*Living Story, just participate with him in the Event
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
So gw2 trial is arriving this weekend, and i get my friend to try it. Now, i have 2 days to convince my friend to buy the game. What can i possibly show him in 2 days that will make him scream ‘’ OMG mom, buy me this game xD’’
Show him the dragons (No, not the fight themselves since they are horrible, just show him when they arrive and WP away)
Show him the legendary weapons or other mystic forge weapons. He will realize that there are awesome gear in the game and hewill be like “OHH!! I need that sword” Then you will tell me him it will take him more than 2 days, so he will have to buy the game to get it.
Show him all the dunegons and how many paths its in each dungeon. Its around 40 paths in total
Show him WvW, thats great fun
well if you’re on an EU server on August 24th GMT +1 3AM I’m organizing a “let’s walk from a starter zone to the gates of arah” event. All you have to do is to bring a level 2 asura to metrica province at 3AM. It will show him a great deal of zones. However I’m wondering whether that would encourage people to buy or to avoid this game lol.
That would depend on what kind of gamer your friend is. Can’t do much if he’s a hardcore trinity raider for instance.
Meet up in Queensdale. Level a bit. Make sure to hit a few champions. That’ll show him how nice the loot system works. Do some gathering. Go to Lion’s Arch and do the Pirate JP together. If you guys manage lvl 10-12ish, try to get Shadow Behemoth.
I’m pretty sure that’d pull any player into the game.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
Make him play a Ranger. The sheer amazing and OP’ness of this class in all content is absurd. He’ll love it so much he’ll never leave.
Definately show him the living story. That stuff is boss right there.
No..please dont do that.
Depends what he would find interesting, honestly.
-Explore the vast world, show him the intricate detail of a mountainside covered in vines
-Show him some cool low level events
-Let him listen to some of the NPCs bicker back and forth between eachother after completing an event.
-Have him try a few classes (If he played games like WoW before, stay away from Charr…people tend to think the “on all four” running is lame after playing other MMOs)
-Show him how you can literally see a storm rolling into Kessix hills.
-Show him a hidden underwater cave.
-Show him a jumping puzzle
^ as folks have said show him a jp (LA ones/metrica/caldeon/queensdale?), how the dynamics work / champ loot, if possible a world boss — SB/Fire ele/Maw all fairly easy to get to, WvW, there’s a lot of great scenic zones/areas you can find.

Had to add in that. WvW looks cool when you first see it.
My friend is also trying the game this weekend- I have been raving about it since launch.
She isn’t sure if it will run on her pc so the trial is a perfect opportunity.
She wants to make a Norn so I will meet her in Wayfarers.
I plan to take her on a tour of all the starter zones and the cities maybe show her some living Story stuff depending on how low level friendly it is this time round.
Show your friend the forums
Show him Shadow Behemoth, everyone is impressed by that their first time.
World vs World. Eb jumping puzzle, the main cities. The best looking maps in the game. stuff like that.
Buy your friend a copy? Friends do do that sometimes
If he is your friend, why wait for a short trial? Be his friend!

short answer:
tell your friend that the game is challenging
longer answer:
if you and your friend played other mmos such as WoW, Tera or such, you may notice that GW2 is sightly harder.
in other MMOs, your party wipes if you do something horribly wrong (aka the tank or the healer fails hard, or someone just pulls too many mobs), but in GW2, you have to pay more attention and you are on your own. this does not mean that you can’t play as a team, but if you do, notice that there are no healers or tanks at all.
tell him that if he wants something more difficult than “just another mmo” he should try this.

I have already bought 3 accounts- it has to stop somewhere :P
Just let him play. Let him explore the world on his own and find what he likes. A guy I bought the game for actually took off and started doing vistas of all things. Then started doing city map completion and a few JPs. Never thought he would have got into that.
I wouldn’t play tour guide though unless he asks for help. It takes away from that sense of wonder you get when you first start an MMO.
Whatever you do, try not to spoil things when going through content you’ve already done. I know a lot of people like to explain every single detail of encounters in dungeons and whatnot, but seriously, let him figure out some of the stuff. It’s way more rewarding when the player himself goes “eureka!”, even if it means getting his butt kicked a few times.

Screw that! If I dropped 60 bucks on a few copies, id be out that 60 bucks now. My friends dont play anymore.

I miss that..
I don’t know about anyone else, but I was a GW1 maven. I came into this game knowing it wouldn’t be GW1.5, and I am happy that it isn’t.
The thing that really grabbed me when I came into GW2 was the fluidity of grouping for DE’s. Nobody gets toasted for not being in “the group”…show up, do the event, go your separate ways. Nobody gets ALL the credit for being the “first tagger.”
Silly, I know, but it beats the kitten out of scrambling for credit so you can have a pittance for a reward.
When i first started playing i started in a free trial weekend with a few other friends that were trialling it. The stuff that made us buy the game were the exploration (even if we were just in the starter zone), world events and events in general, wvw (a giant siege on a keep). But one thing is we didn’t go off on our own, we partied up and ran around as a group figuring stuff out. Made it a lot of fun for sure.
