Hi, Anet. Can you pop in here to help with this attribute naming confusion, please?
I’m curious as to why “Ferocity” was the name that was decided on for what the Crit Dmg stat is going to be called when that change goes into effect when we already have a “Ferocity” attribute in the game:
Character Personality Characteristics:
This may not seem like an issue for most players, but it may cause quite a bit of confusion for many when talking about character attributes (especially role players I would think).
Q.
Are you going to rename the personality attribute to something else or will we be left with two attributes with the same name; one for personality, one for combat effectiveness?
“Personality is a roleplaying mechanic that affects a character’s interactions with NPCs in the world. The initial personality is determined by how the player answers biography questions during character creation and is refined by the most recent 100 encounters with particular NPCs.
The game keeps track of three aspects of personality: Charisma, Ferocity and Dignity, whose sum is 100%. Dialogue choices can affect the personality by increasing one aspect and thereby decreasing the others. For example, constant bullying of shopkeepers might increase ferocity to a point that the character becomes barbaric. Similarly, frequent cunning will lead to a reputation as a scoundrel."
good point.
what if we rename critical damage to “brutality” instead?
how would that sound?
I’m wondering why they changed it from Prowess in the first place
I don’t think it is a big deal. From what I’ve experienced, I’ve never had to refer to my character’s personality characteristic (I probably even forgot what it was).
So, it can be safe to assume that when you hear people saying or referring to their ferocity, that they are referring to the critical damage spec and not their character’s personality.

Now that the Ferocity (combat) Attribute has been outlined in the Critical Damage Changes Blog, would a dev pop in here to give insight into this situation, please?
Or if something was already mentioned about this topic in a dev video or blog someplace, would a player please link to it?
Thats somethign I immedietely complained about the very first time, when anet had announced that name change of the stat, sadly got until today no official answer on to why they are so thoughtless/uncreative to rename the stat to ferocity, when there is already Ferocity in the Personality System
there are lots of better fitting unique terms for the stat, other than Ferocity to prevent the confusion ..
just to name the most fitting ones. personally I’d always prefer Dexterity over Ferocity as a Stat Name.
