That is where you’d be wrong. It took me 2700 hours ish to get my gift of fortune via directly farming each t6 mat.
Besides the precursor the other things that I do not have are charged lodestones( already have plenty of onyx molten destroyer glacial), but I can run coe to gain another 50 (100 cores), silver doubloons (tricky), and unident dyes (no issues).

Well then I commend you for farming from scratch. I’m sure there will be people out there that will doubt you (such as I) but of course as long as you know that you yourself farmed every single thing, that’s all that matters.

I have just over 3k hours now across two accounts. No precursor. I guess you just have to win the lottery. I have one legendary of which I purchased the precursor. I made the coin for my precursor by buying a cheaper precursor and making a profit off it. I had most of the T6 materials I needed and it was just getting the precursor that was costly.
BTW guys..keep in mind that hours in game doesn’t necessarily mean you should have had a good chance at getting a precursor.
A guy who plays 1000 hours purely in WvW is going to have a different chance than a guy who does 1000 hours farming meta events or even a guy who does 1000 farming shelt/pen (pre-nerf)
I’d wager that the guy who farms shelt/pen will have a greater chance at precursors due to the sheer number of mobs that person has an opportunity to have a roll on.

I dont use magic find or make much of a special effort to get event chests. 1500 hours anf Id have to estimate that Ive had 20 exotic drops. Two or three of which were named weapons. Totally guessing here but if a named weapon drop has a 1 in 100 chance of being a precursor does that work out to 50,000 hours of game play per precursor? I dont make a habit of using the forge. I probably could have dropped a thousand rares into it by now if I had wanted which I feel from the forums would be about one third the number of forge attempts that is required on average. Ya sorry no hard numbers here from me. I wouldnt get my hopes up.

Ive thrown in about 200-250 rare shortbows and about 12 exotics. Small stuff compared to you Id imagine…probably only lost about 40 or 50 gold in the entire process since I feel I made a lot back when single exotics being rewarded to me.
But…:( I hope I dont end up being one of those people that waste 1000 rares in that thing…would almost discourage me from logging in anymore, even if I got the precursor. And I dont want to GIVE someone 600 gold for one either.

the about me and the precursor is yes i know it’s very very low chance and gamble in mf is not the best way. however i rather throw all gold away and have a chance to get it , than just give away all my hard earn gold to some lucky person who may not even play the game hardcore or care.
It’s not about playtime or hours spent farming, that’s irrelevant. The only thing that matters is if the RNG god likes you and wants to throw you a bone. Unfortunately no one knows exactly how you please this god. It’s more reliable to just save money and buy it after finishing the other gifts than depend on the higher powers.

luck is account bound and you are not the only one that found more than 1 that is why i say this.
a guild of mine found to ticket for molten weapons and 1 ticket for sclerite (he is not playing much more, otherwise he probably would have found more).
the same person the same luck. (he also got a precursor from the forge just saying).
maybe your luck is not in the forge, but you can’t really complain about it…

hay guys I’m back and wow I am really impressed with how much people really care about this issue in the legendary precursor challenge. and yes I am Dyslexic. however I an one of those die hard i bl-eave the Legendary should be earned not bought, this includes precursors and now that the kakra Queen is a go. its bringing me hope that maybe maybe if the stars align i score critical damage with my GS skill 4 and Komier comes out and says Kenage I have come to repay my debt for you defeating Abbadon and gives me Dawn and Dusk.
But with that being said I am a bit surprised no comments from any of developers about this topic has been said. cause I know there are people who are more dedicated to the game than I am. and a lot of People like myself want to Finish the legendary challenge. so thank you guys for commenting and keep them flowing.

Getting a precursor to drop in the open world is a big deal.
Getting one specific precursor to drop in the open world is an enormous deal.
Getting two specific precursors to drop in the open world: forget about it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if your chances of getting both Dawn and Dusk as drops is less than winning the lottery.
You’ll have to either buy Dawn and Dusk off the TP or dump tons of GS’s into the mystic forge. I’d recommend doing CoF runs as much as possible starting now — I’m expecting a nerf any day now.

I would start with the precursor, instead of building all gifts for Eternity bar the two most expensive parts … in my opinion, that’s not a good way to go. One doesn’t buy a wheel first and then ask how long one has to save up for the car itself.

Clearly it’s not a priority – people are still getting precursors and are still getting legendaries. The game isn’t broken because of the current system. There are other things more important on the list.

Hence my earlier reply to your earlier commentary – “Yes, usually with non-responses” – that is evidently correct.
As other people have said hours spent playing don’t really have anything to do with it because only certain areas/activities have any chance of rewarding a precursor.
You can only get a precursor from killing level 80+ enemies, doing world bosses, dungeons and jumping puzzles or putting rares/exotics with an average level of 75 or higher into the Mystic Forge.
So any time you’re doing anything but that your chance of getting a precursor is 0%. You could spend 100,000 hours playing but if you’re not doing those things you have absolutely no chance whatsoever of getting a precursor.

@ stark . If that’s your point of view , then this isn’t the place you should be posting to some people it is a priority , and some might regard fishing out 600g broken. So take you and unvaluable comments elsewhere.
@ danikat . Exotics start @ lvl 69 therefore any exotic chucked into the forge can yield a precursor provided Ofcs they are weapons.
Also a lvl 1 Moa can drop a precursor provided you are lvl 80. The chances are just horribly less. Take for example my spark dropping from a lvl 50 champion whilst doing world completion on my 80. It’s unfortunate wiki doesn’t outline the drops correctly

My girlfriend and I have clocked over 1600 hours each. We farmed the meta events and dungeons for a while hoping to get one to drop, nothing. We wasted hundreds of gold in the mystic forge. After the last 200g I wasted on exotic swords in the forge hoping to get a zap and getting nothing but crap, I bought my zap from tp. We also bought the legend and most of the other materials because the drop rate of T6 mats was terrible. Here is what really kitten ed me off, right after buying the legend an Ex-guild member decided to forge for his, 120g in rare staves and he got his legend. We’ve burnt through more than 5 times that in rares.
Honestly I don’t care about some kitten ed scavenger hunt for a precursor, just fix the drop rate. Arena net with their random stealth nerfs and ways to reduce bots is ruining the game. They nerf the shelk farm by pearl island today, atleast this time they put it in the patch notes.
i don t even want to count hours played and yellows/exotic/gold wasted in MF……
That led me to think for some players its easier to get each fotm skin that any precursor….

It most definetly is. A guildie got two fractal daggers on his thief. Sure it took like 2 months of daily 48 or something, but that’s nothing compared to a precursor.
TBH its kind of wierd the way droprate for them is designed… They should be far more common. You need another 1000 gold just for the other part of a legendary anyway.
But alas, they’ve promised us a scavenger hunt for so long now its not going to happen.
perhaps it’s time to explore other areas of the game instead of burning yourselves out on pve.

if you ask me the drop rate system in gw2 is bugged. all player that i know that do play alot never get any good drops (including myself) but for instance a frend of mine only played for like 200 hours so far and got from the SAB dungeon over 300g of skins from the MF dungeon he made over 400 g of drops like jetpack and mini’s.
another frend just reached lvl 80 did his frist jumping puzzle and got the storm from it…
i have played over 1600 hours sofar and my most worthy drop was a armor piece of 15g… same with other frends who play alot, they also dont get any good loot…
there are actually a lot of players blessed by rng with multiple precursor drops…
And some Others that wasted thousands rares and golds in the MF and get rarely exotics and 0 precursors.
GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
For about the past 2 month i’ve been throwing all my yellows into the forge, every since they started the daily yellow for meta events, and ecto fell through the floor. I got one precurser through the forge about a month ago. I try to hit all the world bosses everyday, sometimes on multiple characters, even though it isn’t a gaurenteed for a yellow.
I use a system i thought up to get them at the lowest possible cost.
Since you finding yellows yourself, you actaully get them 15% cheaper, because if you sold it you would loose this money. I sell my greens worth over 1.7s to merchant, and mf the rest to get more yellows. I check the yellows for any worth over 25s, and sell off those, since 25s – 15% is over price of ecto. when mfing armors, I use 3 armors and 1 wep (or accessory), to make these armors have a chance to become a weapon. When mfing weapons i try to always put 4 of them in at a time. About 1/5 of the time you will get an exotic, which i end up selling. I’d say a precurser is about 1/100 exotics from what i’ve seen. Just a guess (which i think is pretty accurate).

You’re not just giving someone 600 gold … it’s a sale. You get a precursor in return. You’re not just giving someone 15 000 dollars either when you buy a car.

To much time…. I’ve never seen one drop for me not even during the lost shores event…. I have all 3 of my gifts and now am just saving the gold to get my precurser off of the trading post because it’s clear that a.net doesn’t care if they are unobtainable by players with bad luck….

I feel this way 100%. I am trying to keep track on how much money I throw into the forge. When I approach the amount I would have spent in the TP for a precursor, I will stop trying to get one. I’ll go after other skins in the mean time and hope my luck changes(If I still play the game at all, because all of the content I want to play is shrinking).
