When suddenly, a bunch of pro players decide to hop off of the #1 servers and transfer to the lowest server. Too many free riders transferring to the top.

I think it’s great. Just look at how slam full Blackgate is right now. This is meant to deter that.

i think what should of been done is a vote that the community did based on which servers are dead and need free transfer too them or something like that and then keep it at 1800gems for transfer for all the others

Know how to fix this? Transfer before March 18. Or tank your ratings for the next week, so your server is no longer 1-12.

IMO what SHOULD be done is to either; #1.) Close all dormant accounts 1yr or older, or, #2.) MOVE all those accounts to a dead server so others wanting the chance to move to a higher tier server a better chance to do so.

I think there is a risk here of the lowest population servers losing MORE people. People on these servers who WvW may just move up to the highest ranked world that they can for free. Of course this will benefit those worlds but the worlds they are leaving are losing out.

Obviously this system was put in place hopefully to entice some people off the higher ranked worlds for free. They really did not think tho about players on the lowest servers moving up. Maybe they should have just lowered the price a bit instead of make it totally free for the players moving up and not down?

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

How exactly do you plan on determining a dead server ?

They did do a vote and they’re giving you a chance to vote again. Simply lose the season.

Hey, gotta pay all those Herbert-tier writers somehow.

So pay up and transfer to a full 100% zerg server you’ll never make it to anyway because of overflows. That’s how this game is supposed to be played.

Still I’m quite interested in how one could determine without error that a server was dead. Let’s assume that you had a graph showing the evolution of players in WvW per minutes, over months. How would you determine, over 24 servers (for US), which one is the dead server where you can just move everyone in it ? Or to help you, which 3 servers are so dead you could just lock them in a dead tier together forever.

Normally, I would say that a server transfer is a luxury type thing that it isn’t a big deal what they want to charge for it.

However, when Arena Net takes an active hand in picking winning and loosing worlds it becomes rather dirty. For example, in WvW Season 1 the Arena Net team destroyed Sanctum of Rhall as a WvW server by choosing matchups that consistently left SoR where they were going to take second place to Blackgate’s paid PPT, while feeding Jade Quarry easy first place finishes. Half way through the season most of the serious WvW Guilds were already gone, because it had become clear that JQ was being fed so many points by the season organizers that they were going to get second place no matter what. The company that wants to sell the server transfer actively created the situation that destroyed the server and necessitated the transfer. And that is when it becomes less acceptable to me.

I’m baffled by how you can’t understand that the owners of this game can see each and every little dot on every server and know whether that little dot has been active or not and the number of days that little on that obscure server has been or not been active, I know I could see all this as a gaming server administrator.

You never close an inactive account.

You never move an inactive account to another server.

Period.

ANet have no idea why it went inactive. ANet have no idea when or if they will be back. If they do return, you do not want to have done anything to tick them off so they do leave permanently. Every player represents a chance of someone buying Gems with cash. If a person plays infrequently then it might mean there’s a higher chance that they would be interested in buying Gems with cash.

The sense of entitlement is strong here. “I want to go to X server but it’s expensive because it’s full. There must be players there ANet can kick somewhere else so I can play there (as well as pay less for the transfer).”

As far as we know server population levels, in terms of how full they are, are dynamic and based on the last X days of player logins or WvW participation. And these number vary day to day.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

They would be one of the very few that doesn’t do this, every other online game I have played does this, the most recent of those that I play(-cough-Rift) has done this and was even sent an email by them of it being done.

How many of those games are subscription or were going through “server consolidation”?

If you move players against their will it causes all sorts of problems with guilds and private guild banks, which are all tied to the server. And to do this just to make a few disgruntled WvW players happy because they don’t want to pay the premium transfer price? Because they want to join the WvW Tier 1 servers?

Bet they would then complain how they are always on overflow for events.

But it’s OK to rollback player progression, as in the Fractals?

It must be tough, standing on one foot and taking aim….

Apple … Orange. Who cares about Fractals we are talking server moves.

Kidding, slightly. That was poorly handled. Same with rolling back crafting levels. But at least with crafting the reason for doing it was added at the same time. Have they actually implemented whatever the reason for the rollback for Fractals yet?

This reminds me of the Teq revamp, word got out that Blackgate got him, loads of people all across NA servers started guesting there waiting countless of hours trying to get on main.
Mean while, apparently, the top Blackgate guilds were guesting on other servers killing Teq there while main BG (full of guests) was failing.

Anyway, back to WvW, I think Anet could give some incentive for players to move down on tiers.
Before anything, moving to a lower ranking server would be free.
Then incentives like extra WXP.

Before the Edge of the Mists I’ve always thought a “mercenary” system where guest on other servers to fight in WvW would be a nice way to go around queues in your WvW home server.
Still, after EotM I think there’s still a place for a system like this, this could be controlled and gated, say 20 outside players per each server on a matchup, 1 hour window.
They’d go in, get double the WXP, the outside team (of the 3) with more points at the end of the hour would get extra rewards.

This could also be a very nice way for top WvW players to show some strategies to lower tier ones.

Did you lose any rewards you previously had from fractals from the level reset? No? That’s what I thought meaningless argument is meaningless.

Point is top tier servers 1-3 are going to stay that way because people see that they’re at the top and figure it’s basically free loot everywhere.

Thing about broken game is that it remains broken.

Store all valuables in bank. Delete all characters and pay 0 gems to go what ever server you want. They hand out level up to 20, level scrolls out like candy and there’s always a vast amount of xp boosters available

If you made a lot of characters that are a year old then yes, you get a lot of level up to 20 scrolls. Me, I have only have two, still unused because I haven’t rolled another character of the the profession yet.
