25% Run Signet Across the Board......OP?
Mesmers and guardians are kitten in the speed dept. for sure. When I play my necro or thief, it’s like a breath of fresh air being able to open up and actually run. It has always seemed wrong to me that some professions get run speed signets, and some don’t.
What I’d like to see: all characters, upon reaching xx level (40? 60? 80? dunno…), can complete a quest to get a permanent 25% speed boost added to their run speed. No signets, no weapon usage, no sigils required. That would be fair.
You can’t lump guardian with the mesmer. The mesmer is at the very bottom with no chance of getting out.
The guardian you can have nearly 100% uptime with speed buffs. Staff 3/SaveYourself/Retreat are great.

I like this. since my class has trash access to swiftness, being shoehorned into wearing that stupid signet kitten es me off.

I can keep perma swiftness on my guard easily without runes on my mesmer our only speed buff is the focus oh and signet of inspiration doesn’t count..

no.
Then I want gate on all my other alts too.
Sorry OP, but no.
As much as it hurts when I fire up my Mesmer.
But who knows what ANet will cook up with the coming new traits and skills.
ANet seems to consider swiftness a defensive boon. Observe how it is one of 3 boons you can gain at random when using the engineers healing elixir for instance.
Learn to love the focus. Or stop being cheap and use Centaur runes.
Or how about simply removing all speed buffs and have characters move at a realistic pace instead of running around like a bunny on crack?
WvW combat would suddenly become alot more epic instead of being a swiftness fest.

Compelling argument.

Yeah, I’m well aware of how guardians can get nearly 100% uptime on speed buffs. But it’s cumbersome to do so.
And I agree — mesmers are truly borked in the speed category.

Hawk, what you you mean by “gate”?
Meant the portal.

Who said anything about cost? A superior rune of the centaur is only 71 silver, and centaur runes are just a 20% time increase. You still must use the focus.
Meant the portal.
Gotcha. I’d gladly give up the portal for 25% sigil. But that’s just me.

I don’t really like these permanent speed increase signets and traits.
Why? Well to begin with, these professions that do have them, already have loads of escape abilites and what not.
I play a Guardian, and they are pretty strong, but I’m not able to catch any profession that is running away, at all.
If I solo roam in WvW, and I get a Thief on me, I might be able to take him down, but the moment he decides to get away, there’s nothing I can do. Same with Elementalist, the moment they decide to pull their knees on their back and run, they can do so with ease.
So yes, I don’t like these speed bonuses, because of escaping, together with teleports and whatnot.
its a mesmer weakness… and thats good; it hurts in open world pve (but you can mitigate it with centaur runes/focus – speed signets take up a utility slot meaning builds lose out for it – my necro (wvw) has no swiftness at all, so i use signet of the locust… meaning i can only use utilities… of which there are many great choices – i end up running around with well of suffering/well of… boon conversion/signet of the locust most of the time; so no stunbreak)… i completely disagreed with portal making up for the lack of swiftness/speed signet a few months back… but ive 180’d… it more than makes up for it

Necromancer says hi.
I’ve played a Necromancer, Elementalist, Thief and Ranger. I’m now leveling a Mesmer, and the movement speed compared to the others is painfully slow. In order to get swiftness, you’re locked into using a focus.
Are you suggesting that Anet got the default run speed in this game badly wrong, and that the ‘signets of running properly’ are just a band-aid to try and mask the problem?
The default run speed sorta sucks; I almost feel like speed buffs are semi-mandatory. Well, not mandatory, but pretty annoying without.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Using the mantra of recovery with the centaur runes can provide nearly 100% swiftness uptime. But you’re giving up many other useful stats for bleeding and swiftness.
I’ve got a mesmer and I use runes of the centaur, but it’s a pain yes. I love those signets especially on jumping puzzles, makes it so much easier on some of those longer jumps, you don’t have to nail them just right or use swiftness, you just get to hop along very easily. Oh well, it is what it is, but I’m not sure why half the professions got it and half didn’t.

High health and DS. It’s not the best escape abilities, but it’s not bad.

Yeah, that combo rocks socks in PvE.
Pretty kitten useless in PvP, though.
I think some professions should be more mobile than others. You’re toyig with fundamental balance issues fwiw. Swiftness is a boon for a reason…certain classes get the signet for a reason.
Oh well, it is what it is, but I’m not sure why half the professions got it and half didn’t.
I think that’s the question I’m groping for as well…
Rune of Air. Signet of Inspiration. Reflection Heal.
Mesmer is now faster.

I can begin to answer that, maybe, at least from a ranger perspective. As a ranger, if you decide to use DPS pets, if your cat/bird doesn’t have more runspeed than your enemy, the enemy can easily kite the pet.
Another example is the role of the ranger in wvw. You’d expect scout/harassment professions to be faster. Mesmer, on the other hand, is a duelist profession.
Maybe you can convince me but I’d hate to not have the option to run from a phastasm mesmer. Mesmer with high speed sounds likely OP IMHO. Convince me otherwise.

I think it’s kinda the case. Once you start playing with the runspeed boost its horrible playing without it. They are balanced due to them taking a slot and often having kitten active effects so I’d like to see runspeed signets for all or none of the classes. Having them on some or most classes makes balancing that little bit more complicated than it needs to be.
Also with the endless nerfs my Mesmer has been getting recently it would be nice to get some love for a change.

This basically invalidates Swiftness as a component of the game.

DS can help you escape from one person, maybe, if you play it right, but it’s not going to do as much for you as a single Ride the Lightning or Swoop or Shadowstep will, especially against a big group.

Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

But you don’t have the option to run from (for example) a full zerk D/D elementalist, or a Heartseeker thief, or any of a number of other great 1v1 builds.

With my ranger? Well, I admit, ranger has the tools to get away from them. I won’t lie, with my roaming build I can basically leave any fight I feel like I might lose. Lol so ya i see your point. You’re starting to convince me
Mesmers are the strongest 1v1s, the only class whose utilities are consistently requested for WvW zergs, and one of only three classes to earn a place in the fabled “Zerker Warriors and Mez only, maybe Guard if you pay me” dungeon speed running groups. The last thing they need is another buff…
Besides, Centaur runes and 10sec heals pretty much eliminate it.
Rangers and Thieves are intended to be the roamers, that’s why they get it. Both of those classes also suck in zergs (according to the community anyway).
Everyone shouldn’t have everything…
Space Marine Z [GLTY]
No. I hate how the trend is going in “The class has this, I want this too”, I like huuuuge differents in classes but this would just add up and we all would become more and more the same. If we talk about skills which involve movement you got a freaking portal, it won’t speed you up but adds a mechanic to your movement. And this is exactly how it should be.
Buff the swiftness boon or give it a secondary perk (similar to weakness), but make the movement speed bonus apply in-combat only.
Instead, make every character passively get +1% movement speed for every second they are out of combat.
Rework all of the +25% movespeed signet passives (and traits) to something more applicable to combat and not convenience.

i cant undestain why guardian have a condition signet and no a speed one, instead necromancer have speed signet and dont have a condition one, irony no? the way anet work >_<
I have alts in all professions. The ones I play the least are the ones that don’t have some way to get passive 25% perma swiftness. For me it is an open world PvE thing though as it reduces my travel time. It feels horrible going from my Ranger to my Mesmer or Guardian. I made the mistake of rolling a full sized Norn Memser. I know it is just a visual effect but it looks like the slowest moving thing in the entire game. If moving slow and looking like you are moving even slower is not your thing, never roll a giant, big fat, full height, Norn Mesmer.
Agree @JustTrogdor^
I will clarify that I don’t do WvW/PvP. For me, I’m only talking PvE. It would be nice if the two could be separate so one isn’t hurt by the other.

Absolutely. And not just for the run speed issue.

If I’m correct, you must hit 6, wait 2.75 seconds, then hit 6 again to activate the heal. That’s a lot of button smashing to travel. Especially compared to +25 % everywhere you go without having to hit any buttons.

This has to be one of the worst ideas in this forum.
Combat in GW2 has been balanced around the current combat speed. Changing movement speed would require a massive rebalance in the entire game for little gain, so of course it’s a very bad idea.
“Make it only work in PvE” – duh, combat in PvE has also been balanced with the current movement speed in mind. Swiftness and the signets only work within the system because they have a price, so a given character is losing something in exchange for moving faster. But removing this kind of limit from the game in PvE would require a massive change to a large number of mobs.

Much as I would like this for my Guardian and Mesmer, still no. This sort of split between PvE and PvP would be another nail in the coffin of PvE-to-PvP conversions. Movement speed is one of the most immediately noticeable and visceral aspects of play. Losing 25% speed simply by entering PvP would cause a lot of PvE’ers to turn tail and never come back. Anet clearly wants more PvE’ers to try out PvP (the recently-added Achievement Chests all have a bunch of PvP items in them) so it is unlikely they would do something like this.

I think mesmer is fine.
Someone in this thread said Anet considers swiftness a defensive boon; that’s because it is a defensive boon. You’re able to get out of AoE without wasting your stamina. Mesmer has a lot of teleports and in-combat-mobility which makes up for it. I don’t really mind that I don’t have permaswiftness.
And just make an asura mesmer. Everything seems faster on asura :P
Don’t nerf rangers.
They’re already nerfed.
If rangers get nerfed, you should expect other classes to get nerfed.
Rangers lose their dps, and pet dps, now you want to limit our mobility?
Rangers keep losing their skills and every other class stomps on us.
Not fair, friend.

Try engineer … you’ll have to specc 10 points into a worthless line, are required to bring a kit and then cycle it every 5 seconds to keep it up. It’s annoying.
