Guild Wars 2

Its the season for holiday cheer. Let’s be positive and list the things we’re grateful for in Guild Wars 2.

My list personally;

1. I’m an avid RPG’er. And the thing that hooked me in GW2 was its lore/stories and LWS season 2 really made me happy
2. Its casual style of play. I’m not much of a competitive player in any genre so this non-competitive gaming style really fits me well (though, casual shouldn’t mean easy – stop! got to think positive, don’t derail now. Think happy thoughts!)
3. I really like the GW2 community, other games just don’t have a community like GW2.

Since it is the holiday season, how about 1 wish you’d like to see from the GW2/Anet team.

My wish would be to see more ways for guilds to interact with one another (internally and externally) a way to distinguish guilds from one another (like guild titles so I can brag to other people how beast my guild is)

• The races. The Guild Wars universe is a breath of fresh air from all other MMORPGs out there. I get to play as actual unique species that look awesome, instead of the usual humans, green humans, humans with long ears, humans with glowing eyes, short humans, shorter humans, maybe short green humans, etc. Charr and Asura are definitely my favorites, and it’s especially great to finally get females characters that aren’t all about boobs.

• The art style. Guild Wars 2 not only offers a unique art style, but consistently so. From the character design to the map design, there’s a lot of attention to detail, and nothing looks out of place (which is impressive considering the variety).

• The gameplay. There’s just so many different things to do in Guild Wars 2 thanks to the very versatile and fluid gameplay. Combat is dynamic and satisfying (in PvP, anyway), and I never feel like I’m not in control of my character. Well, except maybe for that one time I tried sitting on a chair. That didn’t go too well.

My wish is to see more PvP stuff in the near future, possibly more maps and/or game types, or something with a “playing the game should be its own reward” mindset to it.

1. Pretty nice community in-game (as opposed to the majority I see in the forums, anyway)
2. Personal Story
3. The classes I play (Engineer, Necromancer and Ranger) which I never get tired of.

1) No need for gear grind to PvP

^ That is so huge, it’s good enough for all 3 on it’s own.

2) Fun, fast-paced, active combat

3) An open-world full of detail and diversity that’s fun to explore.

1) No subscription.
It actually gives you a more relaxed play style because you don’t feel obliged to milk the game for all its worth and you can really take your time to enjoy it. Its casual-friendly.

2) WvWvW
Basically no other game offers this kind of large-scale PvP. Yes, it has its problems, but its a pretty remarkable concept when you think about it and I remember it being one of the things that lured me in after gw1

3) Mature Community
The gw2 community for the most part is refreshingly mature. Compared to other MMOs it has a much higher proportion of friendly and mature players, such a relief!!

1. The game world is breathtakingly beautiful.

2. Jumping puzzles.

3. No matter how many times I go through a zone, I always find something I never noticed before. When someone showed me the hidden basilisk cave in Gendarran I was like OMFG. I had no idea this was here.

1) Jumping puzzles! When I found out there were jumping puzzles in Guild Wars 2, something to explore within a world to explore, I was so excited

2) Fractals of the Mists

3) My outfits …okay, the wardrobe system

1. Character customization. It’s addicting lol.
2. Miniatures. They’re so cute and I love seeing everyone running around with all sorts of different minis.
3. The fast-paced combat system.

My wish: Fix Lion’s Arch and add more cute and cheerful stuff?

1) The diverse races. there is no other mmo out there with races like this and thats what makes this a must

2) The new way of dungeoning love the small group were you have to talk or my favorite strategy STACK! (miss raids from wow and so but WvWvW makes up for all that)

3) NO PVP gear grnd that is the one thing i hated most in all other mmos is the grnd for pvp & pve gear loke everything about pvp.

1) No sub. The base release price this game was a great deal and for the current deal prices it’s mind numbingly phenomenal. I could not recommend this game highly enough for the box prices.

2)Game world. I simply flat out enjoy it even though I take it for granted quite often.

3)Ofc the people. The main reason I am still playing this after almost 8.5k hours. There are some truly wonderful people that make up the community of this game.

I wish for a large content release involving Cantha in 2015.

1. Active combat. I could just as easily put this in 3x

3. No kittenty vertical progression.

My wish: Some new, challenging, dungeon content with decent rewards, which will need new NPCs in LA to exchange the tokens at. :p
It’d be SO nice to have some content that isn’t more story.

1 No monthly fees

Having no monthly fees is an excellent thing that makes Guild Wars 2 really stand out against the rest of the MMO’s out there today. Some may argue that Living World and other game updates are not enough to keep players entertained, but simply because we have Living World, does not mean we will never see an expansion. I have faith that one day we will see an expansion, even though I am a hardcore player and I have exhausted all of the content at my disposal for quite some time.

2 The gold to gem conversion

Another thing that makes Guild Wars 2 stand out against other MMO’s is its gold to gem conversion. The ability to convert in-game currency to cash-shop currency is something that not all MMO’s have. While this feature was much better nearer to the game’s initial launch, it is still an excellent way to get items and get items you would normally have to pay cash for in a different MMO. The only thing that bothers me is…. I wish there was more transparency behind the fluctuation of gem prices, and I feel that I don’t fully understand how gems can increase in value constantly if gems are constantly being introduced into the game through irl-cash conversion. At any rate, without this feature, Guild Wars 2 would be just another cash-shop MMO, and I am definitely happy this feature exists in the game.

3 The Combat

Finally we come to the combat system of Guild Wars 2. This game’s combat is the most amazing and fluid combat I have ever seen in any MMO ever. Most players don’t realize just how spoiled we are when it comes to our combat system. Of course it does have its flaws, and there are many things that could use some serious work….. but overall it is still excellent for casual players to experience what I believe to be the most realistic combat in any MMO on the market today. That being said, enemy AI could use a lot of work to bring the combat system up in quality. Enemies attack too slowly, act too predictably, and the invulnerable + regen that happens against foes who can’t immediately retaliate against you take away greatly from an otherwise wonderful combat experience. The AI is a joke to most veteran players, we need more patrolling mobs, and we need to find a happy medium between having foes leave combat and regenerate health and being able to stand on a rock and avoid taking any damage.

1. The art. All of it.
2. Casual Friendly – if I only have a short time to play, I can usually still make some small progress towards one of my goals.
3. WvW. While primarily PVE player, I like the large scale PvP offered by this game mode and again, it’s casual friendly. Also, the WvW skill trees are an excellent example of horizontal progression.

My wish for 2015? More. I’ve genuinely enjoyed most of what has been delivered this year, and want to see where things are headed in the new year.

1) No sub.
While my financial situation would not budge much from 10-15€ per month, it’s more of a psychological thing. I like to be able to spend when I want, on what I want. And I have, probably more than 300€ total so far on the box and gems.

2) Combat is fun.
Safe to say GW2 has spoiled pretty much all traditional tabtarget games for me (I’m looking at you, WoW).

3) Big, beautiful world.
I just wish we would get more zones like the original ones. Best map design ever in an MMO.

That’s easy. There is more and more gold in the game, so more and more gems are bought with gold than gold with gems. It’s called inflation.

Think about it, if the ratio was like it was in the beginning no one would be buying gems with cash anymore, since they could buy everything they want from the gemstore for just a few gold coins.

I really like this “three stars and a wish” format. I am going to be less concise with my response. Okay, here goes…

My three:

1. The beautiful cities and landscape. I am constantly amazed by the amount of effort that was put into this world, and the wide variety of terrain and architecture across Tyria. Whether I am wandering the bustling streets of Divinity’s Reach, or exploring the vibrant areas of the Grove, I always feel at home within the cities. As for exploring the world, each map offers their own majestic sights that continue to amaze me over and over again. From the towering mountain at the Durmand Priory HQ to the time-beaten remnants of Ascalon, I can always find time to appreciate the detail that had been put into this game. GW2 is most definitely a feast for the eyes.
2. Character customization. One of my favorite things to do is make new characters, create a little back-story in my head, and play them to level 80. I currently have 12 characters (I log onto a different one each day to keep things exciting). I especially enjoy the many armor and weapon skins that allow me to make my characters aesthetically unique. Furthermore, I absolutely looove the way we can dye our armor on a whim. Tired of wearing blue? Try something in red instead!
3. WvWvW. Although I personally don’t spend a lot of time doing it, I really enjoy this part of the game when I do. While some days are built upon mindless zerging, and other days are leaning more towards organized strategy, I find that it is rarely a dull moment in the Mists. I still get a thrill out of participating in large scale battles at Stonemist Castle, sneaking around enemy territory with a small havoc crew, and even working together with my team to defend a tower from invaders.

My wish:

• Post-AFP Traits System. I am not going to make it a secret that I absolutely hate what happened to traits during the April update. Before, unlocking traits was extremely simple, but it allowed players to experiment with builds right away. Now, it is a boring grindfest and has taken the fun out of playing new characters. I wish traits would become easier to access at lower levels, so that character building can be flexible once again – like how it was before April – while still maintaining some level of fun/challenge in unlocking them.

1) No subscription fees, yet neither f2p.. I love the b2p model
2) Great combat system
3) All the game modes (PvE, PvP, WvW)

3. The actual diversity in PvP and a little less so in WvW.
