The gains felt somewhat there, going from ~ 180 ecto to 250 ecto, but getting the large chest was a bad idea.

Gold lost total is just based on current buy price of ectos.

Actually, what I’d like to know, is do those unstable ectos drop anything OTHER than junk and ecto?

They’re a lot like the New Years Lucky Envelopes, so I was wondering if they had a chance at dropping special items aside from the ectos. Someone linked a mystic forge conduit in /say near the vendor when I was checking it out, but they dissapeared before I could confirm if they actually got it from the ecto or if they just had an old one and were messing around.

If it’s purely an ecto/gold slot machine, I couldn’t care less, but if there’s a few special drops sprinkled in, I might be tempted to gamble for those.

So, get anything interesting on those 59 rolls?

They have a chance to drop the items needed to make the mystic forge conduit (although its account bound).

I did 200 ascended rolls, ended up with enough component to make a forge conduit, and made ~2000g after selling all my extra ectos.

Obviously this is not a representative sample, but 200 rolls was a pretty good amount.

The thing is, if my math is right, you would have broken even or even profit if you didn’t try the big one. You loss 200 of the 203 ectos with that one roll and loss 7500 silver of the 7310 silver you loss, which means you would only be down 3 ectos but up 190 silver.

But the profit margin is so slim relative to the investment it’s not worth the risk.

So I know nothing about this unstable ecto stuff. Due to Real Life, I’ve been unable to play more than an hour tops on anything since the update, and I’ve only really logged onto and updated the builds on my 13 characters, do a couple of wvw runs to test them, and hunted down a total of 2 karka.

I did see something about this unstable ecto from a guy who said he got 50 ecto and a lot of junk, wiki’ed it and saw its some container that costs several gold and 250 ecto? so what precisely is this?

EDIT: Nevermind, the wiki’s been updated. I’m curious whether its worth it. I feel no need for a mystic forge conduit. I can wp and use the mystic forge with little effort. I wonder how possible it is to get ahead in the ecto count though. I’m guessing highly unlikely.

Here is how the ecto lottery seems to function, for most draws… you either get bit more ectos than you invest or you get lot less ectos and bit more gold. (ps: don’t bother with the rare ones, exotic and ascended is where the game is played).

Of course there are outliers where you loose out on both, sometimes you get the goo covered items that can be variety of things from utterly worthless to worthwhile, when you get one of these you get no ectos also so in worst case scenario that can be a massive loss.

Things seem to even out over repeated attempts so that if you keep going you will slowly loose gold and ectos both, unless you hit a jackpot (I have seen a screenshot of junk upto 2k gold in value, not sure if that was a single draw or not), however, it seems slightly easier to stay ahead on ectos over staying ahead in gold while doing this.

While my experiments constitute a fairly small sample size, if I were to speculate the goal of this system seems to be leaning towards turning excess gold into ectos and bringing ecto prices down, while introducing just enough edge cases to avoid total loss of value or introducing too much gold into the economy.

so you spent 20k gold and ended up wit h2k? or was it 22k you ended up with? what was your beggining ecto count? what did you end with?

I dont have a problem with this gold and ecto sink here… what I am bothered by is they have placed an achievement on buying 100 of the ascended level items that cost 100g and 250 ectos each. And all you get is a personal portal that teleports you from where you are to the gamble skrit… really? “here, spend an outrageous amount of gold here, and we will reward you with the ability to spend even more money faster in the future!”

so you spent 20k gold and ended up wit h2k? or was it 22k you ended up with? what was your beggining ecto count? what did you end with?

I started with 2k gold and 1.5k ectos. I ended with 3500g and ~4k ectos which I sold for a total of 4.7k gold and 0 ectos.

I continually bought and sold as I went along, I only dipped down once, but quickly recovered. When I realized I was up ~2k I stopped since I thought I might be exploiting something. I sold off all my ectos and decided to quit while I was ahead. I made a thread with some SS’s yesterday, it’s buried a few pages back now.

lord, I’ve never had mroe than 200 gold at a time, and not more than about 300 ecto at most. I’ve been playing since Beta.

I feel like such a pauper.

Not sure if anyone is using this information to record but here are my results. I’m currently in the middle of trying the 4g package on try #60.

So far I have gained: 290e 10g

During tries 39 to 56 I was down no more than 11g but was up by 150 ecto.

There is multiple periods where I will only gain 10 ecto and 1-6g per try. The 60 to 100ecto reward is very RNG.

I tried with the 100g package 24 times and lost around 200g but wasn’t recording the exact data.

I tried the rare one 5 times and the ascended one once, and all resulted in complete and utter losses in both gold and ectos with over 200 of both ectos and gold thrown away in total. I would’ve been better off giving the ectos and gold to some poor sod trying to craft a legendary.

Needless to say I won’t be found in that cave anytime soon.

It’s definitely designed like any casino game; you will lose over the long run.

Furthermore,

Ended with 120 tries on the exotic package at 4g 50e per go.

Finished with a total gain (after the initial 50e 4g entry) 590e and -10g.

Overall, 200g gain.

I won’t try my luck on the 100g package just yet.
