Magic find only affects drops from enemies and specified containers that simulate drops from enemies.

Why did you think magic find affected the gifts?

Magic Find is both an account bonus and a character attribute that increases the chance to receive higher-quality loot from slain foes. With a couple exceptions, it does not affect containers (including champion loot bags), chests, or any other source of loot. The exceptions are:

Containers received from structured PvP reward tracks.
Divine Lucky Envelopes during Lunar New Year
Heart of Thorns meta event participation containers.

It’s not on this list here.

Be careful what you ask for

anyone else feel the rng is getting worst?

No, the evidence suggests that RNG is just as random as ever.

indeed rng ?. opened a black lion chest and got an item with something out of wadrobe. chance for weapon skin. outfit. glider. or something else and i got a bronze sword skin. i thought ? ? rng. finally a chest key then the rare item and then a trash drop. i am happy there is a battlefield 1 update so i can play that further.
this bronze sword is just a sickness out of a package pure rage item.
and why? noone knows. there are lucky ppl in gw2 but its not me. but i dont gonna farm 24/7 to make gold for an item i have work irl and thats enough. gaming is to relax and not a second job but virtual. some ppl do. yes they have nice legendarys but not for me. i want the jack….. mini thing but 400 gold.

last halloween i saw an ascendent can drop from the bags worth 179 gold but ofc i dont get it.

wintersday gift can drop a ascendent recipe, ofc i dont get. ** it. every mmo is the same. with rng farm farm farm.

further the game is nice. graphics and sound but sometimes i want more for my work and not only the looks. its that i have a very nice guild with friendly and helpfull ppl. so i stay. sometimes guildmissions with discord. the new zone is nice i farmed 1 day with 6 chars for berrys (also with bad elementalist, what a fail weak class. yes i have good dps but its useless when killed by 5+ mobs and cant heal that much. and water is too weak)
and farmed 1 day more with 1 char for the chicken pet. and thats it for me the zone is completed.

IDK. I only have around 180 MF and I have already gotten 3 minis from the gifts despite opening no more than you, probably several hundred less (I don’t actively keep track). It just seems like you are suffering from poor RNG.

Excuse me, but Elementalist is hands down one of the best if not the best classes in PvE. You should git gud. Otherwise 10 star structured and coherent post, thanks for your input.

On topic, Magic Find is an inherently questionable stat ever since they changed it (and maybe even before that). Since it only affects mob drops for the most part, that makes it a lot less useful. Not only are half the loot items in this game that come from mobs bags that aren’t affected by Magic Find (huehue), you also have Diminishing Returns kicking in as soon as you kill the same type of mob like 10 times and doesn’t decay for a certain period of time, making killing a bunch of trash mobs even less profitable.

Plus they need to balance around the fact that Magic Find is continually rising for everybody up until 300% base with additions from quite a few sources and people with high MF probably aren’t supposed to get much better drops otherwise people would complain about that. So, eh. I like to believe I get a few more Rares overall but MF itself is something you shouldn’t put your trust in.

If it isn’t, MF could be changed to be a logarithmic curve. The first 150% helps out much more than the next 150%, but the decline isn’t too noticeable until after ~220% MF or so. It would make it so that new players aren’t feeling “left out” since its relatively easy to get to around 150% MF through regular play, and people would see noticeable differences between 0 MF and 150 MF. After that, people who keep increasing it will still see better rewards, but not enough to make it seem unfair to new players.

You have some base chance of having a yellow drop, lets say 1%. With 100% MF you have 2%. With 200% MF – 3%, 400% MF – 5%. So by getting from 0% to 200% MF you triple your chance of getting a yellow. But by going from 200% to 400% you only increase it by 60%. On top of this MF requires progressively more luck per percent MF. So yes, it is already not really worth it to push luck past ~200% which is reasonably obtainable with random salvaging.

That’s not really what I had in mind when I said logarithmic scaling. Even though it seems that going from 200-400% is worse than going from 0-200% MF, you are still getting an additional 2% chance to find a yellow (going off of your assumption of 1% chance for rares to drop). Cumulatively, its worse than 0-200%, but the net effect is the same.

What I’m envisioning is something more like the first 150% would give (just random numbers) 5x the chance of rare items dropping, going from 150-300% MF would give you an additional 1.5-2x the base chance of the item dropping and so on. This would make the effect more pronounced at lower levels of magic find. So under this system, 0-150% MF would give you an additional 5% chance of a yellow to drop, but going from 150-300% MF would only net you another 1.5-2% chance of yellows to drop. End result is everyone has higher chance of yellows to drop, but most of the effect comes in from the first 150-200% MF you acquire.

Of course the actual values could be lower, and I expect they would be lower if the implementation were changed to scale like this.

The wardrobe ticket clearly states “Equipment Skins (Rare or less)”. Knowing the scale of the item, the wise thing to have done would have been to save the ticket, spend, I dunno, 5 gold to buy every common, fine, and masterwork skin in existence, THEN use the ticket. The only one you have to blame for the ticket doing exactly what it’s supposed to do is yourself.

How long you have been playing? You have all that stuff and you didn’t know that MF does not affect containers. It’s less than 5 minutes research to find out what magic find does and does not.

Like the person above said already, you can only blame yourself for that bronze sword. You should first unlock every common / masterwork / rare or any other easy-to-get skins before even trying it out. You can even preview what the ticket drops.

Do the Wintersday gifts even give you any rare quality equipment (or any equipment at all)? According to the wiki it doesn’t:

i mean i’ve always felt it was a worthless stat.

It really needs to effect all containers and chest opened in the world. However, that would mean more effort put into the drop system than actually seems to go into it.
