64 Bit Install directory?
Installed into my downloads folder initially
I make PvP & WvW videos
check the folder u downloaded it to… Your suposed to put the file you download into the same folder as your regular game is at.
Then it wont as now have downloaded the whole game again.
… To late, I uninstalled the game and opted for a clean install. But its still trying to save it somewhere (Has my login and everything remembered) and there is not one folder on my PC for GW2, Least in program files, downloads, documents, Etc
It should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2
when i downloaded and opened it, it automaticly started downloading in my folder i asked the first file to get put in.
in this case my computer/download/
So again try looking were you downloaded the first file from the internet to your computer mate
Just put it where the gw2.dat file is. If you put it anywhere else and try to run it, it’ll attempt to download the entire dat file from scratch.
Just put the exe you DL with the old .exe in program files~ guild wars 2 and run it and create a shortcut and whatever of it.
Anyone know where this installs to by default because its not in my normal GW2 directory and its taken up a butt load of space on my SSD….
The 64-bit download is simply the client .EXE it CAN’T have consumed the amount of space you’re claiming, unless you failed to follow the instructions and ran it from where it was downloaded, in which case it WILL download the whole game again.
RTFAQ people. I underlined the important steps so many are skipping.
I already have the 32-bit client; will I have to completely download the game again?
No. The 64-bit client uses the same data as the 32-bit client. If you already have the game installed, you can follow these instructions to avoid needing to reinstall the game:
- Download the 64-bit client.
- Copy the downloaded program into your Guild Wars 2 game folder.
- Update any shortcuts to the game to point to the new file instead.
This process will be automatic once we get out of beta.

RIP City of Heroes
Some suggest that it installs into the same folder where installer is located.
For me it installed into “C:/Program Files” regardless of me putting it into a separate folder on my hard drive for games. This is not acceptable! ArenaNet guys, please make it a proper installer.
