Q:
65 to 80 personal story works?
A:
Yes, it’s doable. Never did the math honestly, but this is precisely how my husband and I finish off our characters.
We do not do any of the personal story when we start out. We clear maps, gather materials, craft, and karma train wvw until we are 65.
At 65 we start our personal story (lvl 3 quest) and just do them in order. Obviously as you run to the map locations for the various later stories, you’ll still be popping experience for pois, area discovery, anything you kill, and wp’s along the way. I also still gather anything in my path of travel. Obviously how much you skip in terms of killing and gathering will change your outcome somewhat, as opposed to mine. Typically I hit 80 right around the level 78 or 79 PS quest.
You can calculate it out by using the info on the wiki if you like:
if you find out let me know.
Okay it did somewhat answer the question. If I take it to being 25% instead of the 27% the wiki has it as then it gives 9 1/2 for all of the story line. The 2% can add (maybe didn’t actually add this part) about 1/2 level to it so it is about 10 levels for the entire story line. However, you have to be 80 before a certain point in the story line, so basically be about level 71-74 depending on how much of the map in the areas around your starter zone you have completed. If none then you might be about to squeeze the extra levels out of map completion of those area. Makes it a lot slower, but it does help with getting to the point you want to be, maybe.
At least this is what I think now that I am looked at that page and took a little time to solve it…
Since I did start mine and got to level 10 before calculating it I am going to stop and get to 72 or 73 since I don’t have a lot of the starter area and personal story areas my toon will be in completed. Hopefully this will be enough to get me to 80 before it is needed.
Each Personal Story gives experience equal to that of 27% of the storyline level.

Level 80 -21.60 + 70% of whatever level you are at since final story mission is Arah Story mode dungeon.
So excluding experience from killing things and reviving things while in the mission you earn a total of: 608.31. Which wouldn’t even be enough to level you to Level 3.
But a number of the quests do have you killing tons of enemies and so experience would be higher than what is posted here.
Also, there would be some experience from uncovering new areas and what not if you have not 100% completed the map. As well as any foes you stop to kill on your way towards the quests.
This also does not include boosts due to being in a party, XP boosts, or doing parts multiple times with others as they progress through their story.
And I got my numbers based off of the link the other poster posted.

Either I’m not interpreting what you wrote correctly, or you horribly misinterpreted the experience gained per story mission. For each mission, you gain 27% of a level, if you were at the level of the mission. So the level 80 reward would give 68580 experience, level 79 reward would give 65070 experience, etc…
Generally I get to lvl 70 and PS 40. The remaining PS is enough to take me to 80, so this seems very feasible. If you dont hit 80 from the PS, you must be mighty close.

I think your calculations are off; I level up a couple of times (or more) just doing key runs. Remember, OP is already level 65 or something.
Thank you for answering this I was nervous I had wrecked by starting at lvl 65 getting to the lvl 10 mission then stopping to lvl again.
thanks.

No prob.
My husband and I have been ‘perfecting’ this for a little while now, since sometimes those last dozen or so levels can feel tedious.
We tried it @70 on our 2nd set of chars, but had lots left over once we hit 80 (not a bad thing).
Our third set we tried 55, but caught up to our stories and fell behind, requiring additional leveling.
The same happened for starting at 60 (fourth set of characters).
Our 5th set, we started at 65, and breezed straight through.
I think I have all but 2 of my other characters sitting at 65 and waiting to do PS. I’m working on getting the last 2 to the 65 mark (ones 55, the other is 43 respectively).
Yes, sometimes I put far too much thought into some of this stuff. My excel workbook for this game (or the ones for any of the others I’ve played) would scare the pants off people…
Ah, then the wiki is worded poorly and needs some serious work. 27% of the storyline level reads to me of the level is 80, then the expeirience earned is 27% of 80. Not 27% of the total experience needed to level up to the next level if you’re at the correct level for the story.
