75% off copies of GW2 During PAX weekend
so tell me what its the point by making 75% off in short period of time??? for me anet get this promotion to get more players. so more players have more chance to spend on TP.
because now Gw2 lost lot of players.
Um . . . to entice new players to try the game before the ‘expansion’ comes out? It’s not like they’re selling the game at that discount to entice old players back. Since, you know, they already own the game.
. . .
Is this a trick question?
if so why they don’t mark down price, after expansion launch? whats the point for this?
Um . . . because if those new players don’t own the original game, what the point of buying the original game’s expansion?

no one know if HoT is an expansion or not at this stage? if i am interested the game i wont started it after 3 years launch.
We won’t know for sure until Saturday. All we have, right now, is speculation. But we’ll know soon enough.
whats the point? only they have advertisments for expansion. then it can attract people to buy the original game
You’re asking about it, aren’t you? That’s the point. Wait. You obviously already have an account. Why are even asking these questions?
The ironic part is they are advertising it. At the end of this season’s cinematic, there’s a big, bold advertisement for it.

My guess,
Announce the expansion, – reduce the price of the base game.
New players will then have the opportunity to get the GW2 cheap now and have time to level up before the expansion is launched?
I had 2 accounts in Guild Wars 1 but there was less inventory space so the other account was useful as a bank. The number of account bound items in this game puts a severe crimp in the usefulness of extra accounts.
Almost exactly my view of the matter.
that’s the worst possible moment for The Elder Scrolls Online that went b2p today ^^ not only GW2 is given away for almost free, but there’s also the addon announced this weekend. Man their forum is such a hate fest…never seen anything comparable lol
Well, the LoL forums are still the worse.
This one can get bad at times too…
It says characters will receive double exp , does that apply only to kills or hearts , events , WvW too? Could someone clear this up?
That double XP is interesting. Wil lit stack with other buffs like Birthday booster?
I bet its an expansion that will cost something like 30-40€
Dear JUN YANG, you should google the word MMORPG. Afterwards, you should check some articles to learn more about the genre.
You are welcome to comment after having a decent understanding of what you are talking about. Otherwise, you won’t have any reasonable conversation with others, as your ignorance to how the industry works is creating a barrier in which players can’t reach you anylonger.

WUUUUUUT???
So soon? Everybody say TESO is becoming a very good game (I read they’re fixing things (unlike "someone who refuse to fix things after +2 years), adding innovative mechanisms [unlike “someone” who want to add outdated content like “raids” into his game -_-] and much more.)
This is not the worst moment for them. It’s perfect for us!
If half of what I read about TESO is real, then ArenaNet is forced to do something “big” to keep afloat.
After all, TESO wasn’t a direct competitor (subscription based + bad game) but now is on the same league as GW2.

It’s not really in the same league, because it’s not really in the same genre. After playing around with leveling a bit in TESO, I’m convinced completely different people would like the games.
To me, TESO is far far too generic.

I wasn’t talking about the genre but the B2P model (and no, I didn’t mean ESO is a “GW2 killer” again or something like that).

What I’m saying is they’re not in direct competition even with the same business model because, in general, they’ll appeal to different players, that’s all.

Well I can’t wait to try it out. Didn’t even bother at launch when I saw the sub fee.
Glad GW2 have inspired many with this model.

Said fans about every title that have been released since GW2. We will see when GW2 is going to die because of these fancy titles that bearly has 6/10 as a critical score.

I like when people try out other games. Because so many of them realize how good this game is and come back.

Well, as long as there is no sub fee I think it will be worth even with all the bad reviews :P
And yea .. It’s on steam, won’t be long before a 75% sale

Never said it wasn’t worth it. I just don’t like investing time in games like that that I don’t end up enjoying. Obviously with no fee it’s worth it.
My problem is the whole old style quest, voiced or not, I still have to go to a quest giver, talk to them, run back to do something while following map markers. Go back to the quest giver and get a reward. Honestly I felt like I was playing a game from 2002.

Agreed! Same reason I quickly gave up on Wildstar.
But .. A pro in my book about the quests in TESO, from what I’ve seen on youtube, is that the questlore is much more immersive than in GW2.
I couldn’t care less in GW2, the "quest"window is so unappealing.

I didn’t do anythign questwise in that game I haven’t done a dozens of other games. It really did feel generic. You’ll see.
I shall join the hype train.
Heart of Thorns is an expansion, but not as we think, because it will be purchased with gems. This will make it available for all players and reset the game economy at the same time.
On this note, I don’t think GW2 will be 75% off.

Yes it will
abusing the personal loot/contribution system
Any examples? I have no idea how 2nd account could boost loot system.

This one fails for one reason – no accompanying trial. The game is freaking great. But some might think the game’s selling itself for 1/4 official price as act of desperation. A quick jump into the game with trial would shut that suspicion right up. But i see no notice of such thing. Don’t do that mistake again A-net – always throw in trial with discount so players can see for themselves that it’s opportunity, and not a trap!
if so why they dont lower the price. after expansion launch??
Marketing thing perhaps, lower the price to attract people. Hope they will like it and get the expansion while they are at it?
Just guessing of course.
if so why they dont lower the price. after expansion launch??
If it is an expansion, they probably will. What if they stop selling the original game and instead bundle it with the expansion? That would mean the game would cost $59.99 for existing and new players, so a new player would basically be getting the original game for free. The sale could simply be a trap built on the hype of the announcement to get new players to pay an extra $10 now. They could of course just be trying to increase sales for this quarter if they’re down and it’s also just more marketing.
Can’t wait for the announcement… Expansionpack!
And another Account for 10€ sounds nice. I’ll think about it.
I strongly think Heart of the Thorns will be an expansion (probably bought with gems) exactly because of that 75% off.
Most MMO games when they release expansions, they lower the price of previous releases (or expansions), so players will buy their products. Science evolves and new better products appear every day, but the customers potential funds to spend for entertainment are always the same.
The sale starts at 4PM GMT tomorrow, and the Announcement is at 4:30PM. I would bet my bottom dollar that they are going to announce an expansion that will be available through the gem store only, so they are going to sell bucketloads of the base game cheap and then capitalise by making the expansion a single source purchase. This would be a pretty ‘new framework’ for an expansion.
The release isn’t clear on when double XP starts. 8am with the sale?
A year ago I would have been super excited and willing to give Anet more of my money.
Now…not so much. They need the new blood it seems.

Yeah. Getting 165 tier 6 fine mats every 28 days for doing nothing is hard to pass up.

laurel merchant char
TP char
Guild bank char
Regular bank char
But unfortunately, I bet they are already taken.

I knew I shouldn’t have printed such exciting names. Lol.
If HoT is an expansion I’ll probably buy 2 more copies of the game. That price is great for creating mules.
I must admit the 75% sale leads credence to the thought the announcement will be an expansion.

Don’t get me wrong. I have been with GW since way back when it first ever came out and waited excitedly for GW2. I jump on that train during BETA and have been a huge fan or the lore/world/etc.
That being said, in the last year Anet has severely soured me to the game. Thre have been too many things that they have both done and not done that have made me come close to doing a full uninstall and its only been a waning hope that has kept me coming to the forums looking for updates and pleading for certain fixes. My play has severely dropped off to almost nothing and it wasn’t until this week that I’ve been forcing myself to play the game again for any length of time to try to rediscover something about the game to make me love it again, but that’s been difficult as well.
All i know is that if some of these other issues that have been game breakers for me aren’t addressed before whatever HoT is, goes live, then I will most likely walk away from the game completely.
That genuinely makes me sad, but I’d have to do it. I want to enjoy it. I just don’t. not like i used to.

It’s too bad that ArenaNet doesn’t support multiple accounts under a single primary account.
Been doing this since Beta. its epic and now I play both my accounts quite frequently. Its so nice =D

Bad forum, bad!
(Hits it with a stick)
To those arguing that no one will pick up a game three years after launch if they weren’t interested already, I recommend you look at the life cycles and subscription numbers of “that other MMO”.
I played it, and picked it up about 2 1/2 years after launch, and when I played it about a year ago, most of the folks I was playing with picked it up some time after the first expansion, let alone Vanilla. There’s still plenty of growth time left in this game if ArenaNet delivers.
