I have a problem. My home territory says “Europe”, my region “North America”, me and my friends in Alaska had no such problem. Thus I can’t play with anyone. .-.
Can someone help me with this? How do I fix this one? I don’t like to play alone.
Was I supposed to choose my “home territory”? I put Alaska in every hole it asked for!

Heavy heavy heavy days.

You might want to contact Support directly about the home territory.

Why does this stop you from playing though? (I am in Europe playing on both regions.)

It sounds like what you did was pick an EU server and your friends are on a NA server. If so, you’ll need to switch to an NA server.

1) your account needs to be more than 7 days old.
2) you’ll either need to buy gems to purchase a transfer or delete all your characters to get the option for a free transfer
3) once you decide to transfer, go to character select. Then to world selection (bottom left). Then to the top right of the screen where you select America. Then select a server (preferably one your friends are on if you want to do WvW). Then transfer (bottom right). This might take several minutes to finish.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Europe tends to be more socially liberal than America, which unfortunately edits outs swears, violence, and other “inappropriate” elements far too often. It’s why I don’t like big corporate fake “translations” of animes and prefer fan translations.

In other words consider being thought of in Europe as a gift assuming localizations are different from America to Europe. Some stuff deemed “inappropriate” in America is shown in even kid shows in Japan, don’t know about Europe however but do know they have nude billboards so make of that what you will.

Unfortunately, an American translator won’t keep true to the original and think to himself, “Whoa! That would offend a lot of Americans, better delete the episode or at least change some things around utterly obliterating the original author’s intended feel and message!”

Like I said fan dubs and subs are typically better for this reason as they keep the originals.

What in the world does this have to do with the OP not being able to play with his friends?

I’m just saying given America’s conservative values companies have a tendency to sanitize material (e.g., editing out blood and swears originally in a cartoon meant for teens) and therefore being on a European server potentially has benefits.

I pretty sure that doesn’t apply to the game; if it’s the English localization, it’s the same…if it’s the German, French or Spanish localization, it’s likely the same except for some words that might be slang for offensive terms, and those are then changed.

Nothing to do with the OP’s issue of wanting to play with his friends.

For one thing, its the same company so any translation that happens goes through their system. Whether or not he is on an EU or NA server, it’s still the same. The second thing is, his complaint is he can’t play with his friends. He wants help with that. Not social commentary about translations or who is more socially liberal.

Pretty sure we don’t have nude billboards in the UK (which is, obviously, part of the EU)?

There have been nude, but with all the important bits strategically covered, ones; but, don’t think that is what you meant?

We have nudity in TV shows and stuff, occasionally, but normally after the 9pm watershed.

I deleted my character with my deluxe edition stuff on him. :/
I stopped playing because I couldn’t find any friends on the Europe server I was on.
After F2P dropped a friend of mine started playing on America, which I guess I had the mistake of not being on. So I started again with him. He’s level 46. .-.
Thank you all for your help! This case is closed.

Er, a bit late to say this, but if the items weren’t soulbound, couldn’t you have just put them in your bank and retrieved them after changing servers?

“The second thing is, his complaint is he can’t play with his friends. "

Maybe they can go to his server? I remember playing Phantasy Star Online 2 with an English patch and agreeing not to switch over if it’s released in the US because it would both be months behind and edited to be more “appropriate” for western tastes and audiences (read: language cleaned up, important plot points and even gameplay elements changed as westerners value convenience more than challenge and persistence usually)

It happened before with the ancient pre-Dreamcast games in the series. Great games, I’d recommend them on Steam although they’re turn/menu based like a lot of handheld and phone games. If you don’t take advantage of save state offered by the emulator menu they’re super hard. The Biolab in 2 for example will kill you, a lot those purple cloud thingies and mushrooms will wreck you.

Sure they could transfer to EU. If they are willing to delete all their chars and lose all their progression so far or pay to transfer. Kind of expensive for them to do so, unless you’re offering to pay for all his friends to transfer. Which you could and would be very nice of you.

Confirmed: liberal media bias — someone at the company that designed the forum website couldn’t stand any mention of hanging chad (those who do not remember the Y2K US presidential election are condemned to repeat US History 102: 21st Century).

Hmmm. Well I remember the hanging chad ruckus. However I don’t know what the numbers 858 have to do with it.

Edit: looking at the post, it wasn’t the whole word chad that was censored. It was actually 858 then ; then ch. the last 2 letters, ad, are still there.

Maybe.

Trying both I get

And neither is filtered.

Hmmm. I suspect the forum filter had a senile moment. Lol.

Nah, here’s what happened:

The post where this happened made a quote tag linking to post 5885833, by Chad.6104. The two parts of the tag are separated by a semi-colon, which the filter strips out to find a substring “kitten” (or, eight three three C h). Eight looks like B, three looks like E, so “kitten”, as in the tree, which has the unfortunate distinction of being a near homonym with a term for female canines.

Meow.

That must be it. When I copy the quote and change the kitten part to 833 then ch, it becomes a kitten again, but not with other numbers.

The forum filter has waaaaaay to much time on its hands if it “worries” about stuff like that.
