Hey guys, and hopefully an Anet developer. I just have one question for you, if you get to read this message:

How does it feel to have created one of the best mmorpgs of all time?

I love this game so much, it probably got inside my skin. Just wanted to know, and hoefully I dont get either trolled or topic locked for asking. ^__^

I’ve spoken to a few of them, and generally they seem to feel both really honored and humbled by the game’s success. A common theme is also that it’s sometimes difficult to see the forest for the trees- and the ratio of negativity to positivity around here can make it easy to see why. And more than anything, a really intense drive to keep working harder and making the game better and better. In all honesty, they’re tougher on themselves than anyone else is whether you believe it as a player or not.

It’s nice to see posts like this. If you ever get to speak to a dev in-game or otherwise, make sure to tell them you’re enjoying the game and to keep up the good work- remind them that it’s not all hellfire and brimstone, and in fact the vast majority of the playerbase is beyond happy with the product.

Indeed! I don’t even know how to express how this game rocked my gaming life. I love to play a game that allows me to explore and find hidden things like a secret cave, or a boss guarding a chest in a lonely ally, or the sound of the birds and noght creatures in many forests, etc. I had many occasions where I was so immerse in the beautiful landscapes I forgot i was actually playing a game. I have the game on ultra settings and 27 inch screen: believe me, its incredible.

Im hoping they go even further, despite the complaints and arguments. sometimes we as players forget to enjoy the game and relax. Anet has now created the standard for mmos in my humble opinion.

Go Anet!

I always give them a /cheer when I see them in game in addition to try to charm some information out of them

Speaking of which……

A few days back I was chatting up a dev that showed up for a meta event and the following conversation happened:

Me: ______, what department are you in if I may ask?
Anet person: Map artist…I create the final maps you play in. Mine have been Ashford, Metrica, Hinterlands, CoE, CoF…..some Fractals.
Random person 1: awesome!
Random person 2: wow cool
Anet person: And Guild stuff to come

How is it naive to enjoy something.

GW2 has many traits, and we all value the traits differently. I overall love this game, almost everything I dislike I can avoid without it impacting my gameplay.

I’d like more skills but I can wait, having a good time :p

I wish I could be as naive as you all.

So liking a game is being naive? It’s not necessary to derail a thread of praise just because you don’t share others’ opinions.

Anyways, despite obvious faults, GW2 is definitely one of the better MMORPGs I’ve played. I actually have a good time playing. Nothing I do feels obligated.

It’s a good game, but the combat in this game is put to shame by the depth available in GW1. I know of all the myriad balancing issues the first game held, but it almost always felt really well balanced in my opinion. I think they really had a chance to do what they did in GW1, but better here by avoiding the pitfall of dual-classing, avoiding only having to work around instanced, lobby-based content, etc. Although i’m enjoying what we do have currently, i’m sad to say that the PvP just falls flat. Team structure just doesn’t seem as integral. The lack of a direct healer role only serves to homogenize most of the class designs, i feel. I just don’t feel the combat in this game. It doesn’t seem as social as an MMO should feel. Combat just doesn’t engage me and i think they could have had made one of the best MMOs to launch in history if they just had more structure to the combat roles. I still feel very strongly that removing the monk class and doing what they did with the class / skill system was a grievous mistake. The whole game just lacks a hook. There are tons of things that GW1 just does way better, including getting players to play together in meaningful ways and not splintering the story to the point of nullification and segregation of appeal.

Sure it was much more fun in Guild Wars 1 to go into random arenas, and know as soon as you saw the other side had a healer and you didn’t that the match was over. That was tons of fun.

Just because you haven’t worked out the syergy, doesn’t mean the synergy for teams isn’t there. I talk to teams that have synergy from time to time, having worked out various strategies. Different doesn’t have to mean worse.

And for all the skills in Guild Wars 1, and there were tons of them, there are four or five PvP builds used for each profession at any given time. As the meta changed the builds changed, but you knew what people were going to use in general.

Guild Wars 1 gave the illusion of depth…which is all well and nice. Guild Wars 2 does a much better job of hiding its depth, which means novices can pick it up much more easily. That doesn’t mean however that the depth isn’t there.

Some people see it, and some people refuse to see it.

4-5 different builds for each profession? Man I wish there were that many in GW2!

OP, I very much agree. For some of us GW2 is really fun. For me, one of the nicest features is how the loot system is not mainly RNG based. Except for legendary and maybe a couple of ascended items, all the best gear in the game is available via deterministic although sometimes challenging methods. I much prefer playing (can’t call it “working” since I find it enjoyable) towards a goal to being at the mercy of the great god RNG. The high priest of Grenth is easier to beat than RNG.
