Then GW2 is either not a game, or made by you.
A Second Chance?
Then GW2 is either not a game, or made by you.
Anyone still playing are giving Anet a second chance or third i’ve lost count.. but yes i’m still here, but at a less capacity than i did, mostly because leveling an elementalist is like pure torture (way to weak Anet come on).
But anyway i’m adopting a wait and see approach, if the Ascended gears become as easy to get as exotics ok if not i’ll move on, as i’m sick and tired of grinding my life away in games, i’m here to have fun casually not farm items like a gold farmer to achieve gears that force me to wear them for future content…
I’m on the fence. I want to see where they will do with the December patch and kind of go from there. I’ve paid a ton of money in gems on two accounts and will put a stop on it depending on what the new patch has in store and if they fix the Ascended gear fiasco. – especially 3 months into the game. Like, really, what the hell. A lot of players are still making new chars and testing the game and to already institute a new tier? Ludicrous.
Many of my friends and I are fine with raising the level cap in the near future, but a new tier set this early in the game and this grindy? This screams many more tiers in the near future. Who knows, I still don’t trust the vaguely put AMA they did. Time will tell, but I hope they rectify the Nov 15 patch fiasco. Half my friends disappeared from my list. I’m sad and this was a very very sizeable list on my other account.
Simple and short:
I am here for the long haul which means YEARS, which is how an MMO was meant to be played
I am an altaholic and have 3 × 80 and a 4th on the way. IF they force me down the crazy grind route for ascended on all 3 I may well quit.
Also If they increase level cap and consequently a legendary that takes a thousand hours to grind becomes useless I will quit.
IF they do not make WvW more interesting I will go play planetside2 or SC2 expansion with a risk I will not come back.
That said it is a great game and well worth the purchase price and 3 x £17 on gems I have bought.
Nope I am pretty much done. I stayed this long hoping for the best but now I am just done. As a GW1 player its now clear that they do not have us in mind.
For those you like this game I really hope you enjoy it with all its future content. I will jump on the forums time to time to see if they fixed anything. I will either go play swtor or just go back to GW1 I wish they could still make content for gw1.
As far as i am concerned though anet will not get another dime from me on GW2 unless the change it for the better.
@Walle
You say “I stayed this long..” as if you’ve been here for years. The game is 3 months old. o_0
I stay and log in from time to time, play an hour or less, but I don’t like where they actually going and their whole new philosophie isn’t my thing. I’m simply bored by the same, typical MMO stuff, they try to sell us as their concept.
In my opinion they lied and therefore I don’t believe anything anymore they say, until I see it for myself. Arenanet is just another game developer.
Anet deserves a second chance if only because even if they make a mistake, they attempt to address it. I don’t expect them to be the knights in shining armor of an MMO developer, but they did a very good job. Plus, they’re offering monthly content, so I can’t argue against that. As far as I’m concerned, things like this has happened before with this team and many other teams. I’m not in the least bit worried.
Eh, I went back to Guild Wars 1. I’m still going to log into 2 to get my monthly and maybe a few dailies done, but having gone back to 1 I can say that I"m sorry I left, it’s something that I enjoyed playing for 7 years.

that is years when it comes to the internet, no seriously think about it. You don’t have a lot of time to fix things when something comes out, especially when it comes to software, there is never any patience for it, ever. I remember in skyrim, people freaked out because of the lag problem the ps3 had. They sent out a broken game and they deserved all the backlash they got. But my point is, people wanted to freaking sue them (I kind of think they should have) but anyway,
when it comes to video games, there is no time when you are jerking around your fan base. Gaming fans love there game studios. Its funny, because fans will work hard to protect the game from anyone that would try to hurt it (media wise I mean), funny thing is, most of the time they have to end up protecting the game from the people who are making it. I stopped playing guildwars 2 before the gear changes came. I was a pvper, and it just kind of died off and got boring. I come around to these fourms because i find it fascinating how the mighty have seemed to have fallen.
You cant rely on the same game studios to give you quality stuff because of past work anymore. At least in my opinion, I mean look at diablo 3, should have been the best action rpg ever, but it was not that clear cut was it? Mass effect 3, dragon age 2, just seems like there are lots of disappointments, and its all because no one wants to listen to the gamers. I’m not trying to sound like a jerk, I’m just saying its not the same anymore. a bioware sticker being on a game does not mean what it use to to me anymore, and thats strange.
I’ll put it this way.
If there was another game that looked remotely interesting, I wouldn’t be here.
Anet hasn’t blown thier first chance. im still loving the new fractals, and working toward getting my ascended and enjoying the game on all levels.
it seems mmo’s have entered the spoilt casual group, those that want everything for nothing, and its the single most devestating thing you can do to kill an MMO. anet did right by giving us very nice content, and something to play for.
Sorry we already had that. There was no reason to make this gear harder to get than anything else. They admit putting it into fractals only was wrong, but I don’t see the hotfix to put it on karma vendors in Orr do you?
@Walle

When GW1 launched there were a ton of problems with the game play mechanics, almost 3 months later they changed and made it better.
I expected more from a studio that had experience and a good design for a game, but they decided to throw all that out the window.
They did not disappoint me in any way. I’m prepared to work for ascendeds, because it’s something to do. There’s no vertical progression. I don’t need exotics to get ascendeds and I don’t need rares to beat people. I get them because I’m happy to put in work to get something that looks nice.
Yes.
Before purchase, I was under the impression that GW2 would be like its predecesor, having no vertical progression. It made having multiple characters (which is a must for me) possible, since you didn’t have to break your back trying to keep them all geared and relevant. So I’m a little disappointed that Ascended Gear is the obvious beginning to a gear progression, no matter how slow.
Having said that…
Since I already have 3 ‘main’ characters that I split time between and still haven’t hit 80, the Ascended Gear hasn’t become an issue for me yet. My gameplay experience hasn’t altered.
But, I’m now worried because I haven’t hit 80 and haven’t started on Exotics, let alone Ascended or Legendary. By the time I hit 80, how far behind will I be? Will I still be able to enjoy content with other players? Will gear progression make certain dungeons undesireable to even play?
Time will tell. I don’t pay a subscription and I won’t be spending any real money on this game, so I’ll continue playing, enjoying my leveling adventure through Tyria.

if by the time you hit 80 ascended will turn into armor and not only jewelry, skip the exotics and go straight to ascended. There’s no vertical progression so you can just do that. The funny thing is that ascended has not even been released properly yet and people are already whining. Wait for after the new year and see if crafting/ farming it is worth it or are stats just good for dungeons
There’s no vertical progression
Lying about things doesn’t make then untrue. By the time the ascended set is out, and most of the dedicated players have gotten it, it’s time for Masterwork Infusions to be released. A few weeks/months later when most of the dedicated players have gotten Masterwork Infusion, it’s time to release Rare infusions.
The foreseeable end of this particular treadmill is after ascended infusions have been released. Then your statement about there not being vertical progression becomes true.

Infusions are only good for dungeons. Now tell me do you need exotics to get ascended? Do you need blue to get green? Do you require green to get yellow? THAT is vertical progression. You will NOT need the beginner infusion to get the masterwork infusion. The same way that I can run a dungeon with greens and get ascendeds. Call it a grind if you want, but you can’t call it a vertical progression if there’s no requirement of owning something previously to get the next tier.

Infusions have stats. That’s what they mean by the tiny power curve – they will be adding the higher rarity levels of infusions. Currently the “fine” level (blue) infusions have +5 to stats.
Only ascended gear has infusion slots. They can only be found in the dungeon or by buying a buttload of T6 mats and ectoplasms, which has been rising in cost as we speak. No, you don’t “need” exotics to keep running 10 and 20 over, but it sure is helpful and it sure is grindy. So far, I’ve only seen one non-infused ring and it’s definitely the wrong stats for my char.
(edited by Car.3805)
And those +5 stats are less than 1% increase to a level 80 character. The stats on Infusions are extremely minor.

Mirta, you’re confusing gated content and vertical progression. There isn’t gated content yet (except, arguably fractals), but there is definitely vertical progression.
Lordkrall, +5s add up, and may end up significant, and ANet already stated there will be multiple tiers of infusions.
The second chance depends on their “compensation” for the poorly executed event they had during weekend on the people who participated.
What gets me is they make this legenadary skin, and they make a laundry list of Mats. Skill points, Karma points, gold, and 400 in crafting, etc. I don’t care who you are, but it is a major grind to gather all this stuff up for any average joe/jane(unless you just buy your way to a legendary like most had done already)
So you set out and a very slow tedious pace start crossing stuff off this list, the event pops up and BAM! few players get precursors handed to them. People get disconnected, lag, overflow load times, culling, Waypointing load times. Whatever their cases, prevent them from looting the chest.
I think aNet seriously needs to test their events before releasing them, or even upgrade their servers a lot more. Because being an MMO, there will always be a large amount of players contesting the zone where the event takes place. If they can not handle the masses of players then they need to get out of the MMO industry, and go to single player games instead. We can only see how they handle their other events, before people give them a second chance.
I love the fact that people seems to think that they don’t test their stuff.
Of course they do. But there will ALWAYS be issues with things, no matter how much you have tested them. And it is impossible to do a test that is identical to the live environment without actually doing it on the live environment.

My issue with that subject is that ArenaNet has always known that this would be a problem. On every Beta “one time only event”, they had to deal with this. Zones would slowly become lag filled and you’d have a 2 → 10 second delay on each skill’s activation. People would go link dead from all of the lag and those still playing would die when the game froze on their screen. None of these events seemed to go off smoothly, which would lead a person to believe that these kinds of “unique” events were a poorly implimented idea.
The final Karka fight was no different. ArenaNet should have learned from every problem that they had previously experienced with these events. Instead they repeated all of their past mistakes and they were compounded by making ArenaNet look bad during their Free Trial Weekend. I didn’t even try to participate in that buggy lag filled mess because I knew exactly how things were going to play out. It would have been great if ArenaNet proved me wrong, but they didn’t.
I’m certainly not giving them a second chance, as they have yet to betray my first.

My favorite quote from the AMA was: " we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve."
So, they are going to be a game with a gear grind but novel in having zero gear grind. I am still playing and truly enjoy the game in the game. But, I’m an altoholic and sadly won’t be able to sustain several level 80 characters with their version of gear grind without a gear grind. Ascended gear, judging from the zero grind for the initial three pieces appears to be the mother of all gear grinds.
There is always vertical progression. What makes it a grind is if it’s a chore. Even Guild Wars 1 had a modicum of vertical progression.

Actually, it’s even simpler than that. What makes it a grind is having a grind.

I find it weird how some people find a grind and I do not. Money shortage has never forced me to repeat one action again and again and again just to increase my gold. I am able to get gold from WvW, dungeons, exploration, events and jumping puzzles.
Sorry, not a single cent more until they reverse this VP bullkitten. Since the damage is already done, might as well roll out the rest of the ascended crap and leave it as it is. Any more tiers after that and its bye-bye.
Also, I do not feel at all assured by this PR spin and waffling. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Obviously you do not see how FotM is set up. To reach deeper levels, you must have infusions. You need to reach deeper levels to get certain drops. Eventually, getting Ascended gear is going to require other Ascended gear. That sure looks like that is the plan. They are probably just testing the waters and will decide later if they will pull the trigger.

“Zero grind” – because thousands of ectos are going to fall in your lap while you just have fun…
Not unless they tackle the one issue that shouldn’t have even been an issue in the first place:
The lack of other human players actually playing instead of farming level 80 zones and dungeons.

level 5 – 10 fractal you have ascended drops, level 11 and onwards there’s agony. You should have enough shards to buy infusions before then. Ascendeds are only good for that – dungeons. I don’t know why people want to get it without running dungeons if it’s only useful for dungeons though. I don’t see the problem.

you can buy it or salvage every exotic and rare drop you get. Just completed Malchor’s leap, it’s raining high level mats there. While mats might not be items, but you can sell mats and buy items, so yes, you can get ectos without farming.
I’ll believe it when I see it; I’ve been playing MMOs for too long to put any faith in the words of a developer.
What I saw was that their unprompted reaction was to implement a major grind; that says more than any amount of apologizing or self-realization does.
What will be the other sources of new eq? Will the grind requirement be reduced? By how much? How soon? – Those are the important questions now. The answers to them will decide everything.
Quite a long time passed since AMA… and yet all of the above questions still remain unanswered (Except perhaps for the last one, th answer to which now seems to be “not soon enough”).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Yup sad to say that was the last communication from them and it wasnt on their official forums. I have totally lost hope in them and dont think they have a clue at what they are doing. They cant communicate with us either.
I will keep playing for a little longer because of my guild but think there are much better games on the horizon I am gone.
I am left with playing the TP and not the game to make money. Imagine that I dont play for fun but the market because I dont get drops to make money. That alone states how bad this game is.
Until they increase the item drop rates, and gold income i have to say: no.
I logged in just now to see if i feel any different, so i told myself ok lets make the Apothecary set. I need 30 Karka shells per inscription which means i need 180 shells in total. I spent 30 minutes killing Young Karkas, i got 1 karka shell. I am sorry but i am not spending 90 hours killing the same monster over and over again just for a alternative armor set.
Before you ask “why don’t you just buy it from the TP”, i welcome you to buy them for me if making gold is so easy for you.
I will not spend 1 cent in the gem shop until they get their act together and use their resources to solve the game bugs, broken skils and traits and unbalances instead of creating Super Mario and Guitar Hero content.
If GW2 continues to be used as a platform to introduce meaningless event content without solving the game real issues, then there is no second chance.

People have the habit to comment on stuff they don’t know yet.
Ascended for instance. They are not a new treadmill, just the final tier before legendary that adds progression to PvE only with infusions.
It was a great idea to put a progression for PvE.
Anet doesn’t need a second chance for me, they still have to waste their first.
That part of the community is not worth a second chance tho; all they do is misunderstood and complain their delusions.
In GW1 I gave a.net tens of second chances. Most of the time it turned out good to exquisite. A lot of content I vowed to never play until my personal skill improved and I learned how to tackle it.
I do believe gear progression is a very, very grave mistake. I can only hope they stay true to the word “shallow”, whatever that means. 10cm depth is a shallow creek until a baby drowns in it.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto

And you know this because….. it’s pretty pointless to asume what they’re saying now is accurate when what they said for years during development wasn’t. For me gear progression in PvE wasn’t an idea at all but merely a cloning of other games and certainly not anything great! A total contradiction of the game idea they advertised.
Fractals…. concentrating everyone in LA leaving tumbleweed zones and taking the fun factor away for levelling alts and making any new players feel they’re playing a dead game…. genius… nope again not a great idea just a half baked way to rush the gear progression into the game. The side effect that I like to think they didn’t see coming was gated content.
There was a time to react while it was still salvagable and to embrace the concept of communication with the community is so divided now I think it’ll take more than a second chance to make any difference.
Firstly,
to Max Stats we gotta run this typical Dungoen called FoTM.
Im not a fan of running Dungeons to max out my stats.
In AMA Chris said they gonna look into this so that Ascended Gear could be gained gamewide.
But the problem is, by the time Ascended Gear is introduced gamewide, most dungeons runners has already obtained currently BiS items.
Unless they made it easier to obtain later on to make it fair but highly doubt so unless they proved me wrong.
Secondly,
DR. Due to high volume of bots before they buffed DR to an extend that even with 100%+ MF Gear, we are getting junk 90% of the time.
But the thing bots are almost gone now after the patch and why is DR still not removed?
Which made me realised that Bots are not the reason for DR tbh. Its us! The player isnt it. More farming = More gold = No gems. Common sense.
Sometimes things have to be voiced out. So that Developers know their mistakes and bad decisions. Hey thats what forums are for isnt it.
As for Second Chance, well yes for me but it all depend on January & February patch.
Messed it up again then i rather save my cash for The Expansion for another Mmorpg no kidding.
