I am pretty critical on these forums but I want to take a minute to leave a hearty thanks for adjusting the loot tables in The Labyrinth over last year. You all hit it out of the park! John Smith -this is one of the ways the game can feel more rewarding- It’s a small thing, but it feels like the first Pavilion did. It’s like the first Halloween in terms of feeling rewarded.

Thanks!

Ah, so they brought back the loot proper for the Labyrinth? Good. They’ve taken that feedback to heart then. Last year I basically watched participation in the Labyrinth plummet day by day; once people got their achievements, they basically just left since there was no real reason to spend any more time in there.

Yeah! I have been on here hoping they would remedy that by having loot drop like it did in the past and they did. Had a great time in there.

P.S. I also posted in the gem conversion thread and my tone is the exact opposite of this. Just so you know, I find that change downright deplorable.

While it’s good that they didn’t completely butcher loot drops like they did for personal story missions and the second Queen’s Pavilion, 50-75% of the loot is still Trick or Treat Bags which will plummet in value very quickly. The first Halloween dropped masterwork equipment out the wazoo by comparison.

I have a feeling the Labyrinth will still end up a ghost town well before the event’s end simply due to the Lich. The sheer amount of skeleton adds and the power of their non removable retaliation makes the risk/reward ratio not worth the effort, effectively shutting down that entire corner of the zone once everyone has their first achieve kill credit. It’ll also be the source of a lot of map chat toxicity when people are getting verbally abused for opening the purple Lich door on fresh instances.

^it’s possible to kill Lich with a zerg of 10

You need to pull him into a corner and stack on him. That way you wont need to deal with the skeletons.

I killed a few so far with some small to medium zergs

Wasn’t there a trick to beating the Lich? Something like spreading out so that his AoE’s heal him for less health due to less targets?

Of course it’s possible to kill him, the reward just isn’t worth the effort past the first kill. I had my 3 legendary kill achieves done within the first hour, but I also saw a few zergs wipe multiple times and then just avoid him altogether. And pretty much all scaled events tend to be easier with smaller to medium sized groups, especially when people tend to lay there dead, upscaling the event rather than waypointing.

So apparently John isn’t that evil after all, huh? Unless…unless it’s a part of some bigger plot of his…oh no! I can already see SAB Tribulation Mode for World 3!

I just want to say, I also posted in the Gem Conversion Thread and my post is also of a negative tone. That said, Anet did get the loot right for the labyrinth. It feels like year 1 loot and that’s a good kind of loot level, because it makes people feel like they aren’t grinding, unless they want to grind for extra.

So, though I have been very harsh and very critical of Anet this past month, I am at least happy to find something I can’t complain about. Truth be told there’s a lot I don’t complain about even when others do, and it’s only recently have I lost my faith in Anet. Up to that unfortunate point I was a die hard fan, which is WHY I’m so negative and so critical, this game means a lot to me.

More importantly, the ideals from which this game grew are important to me. And I see those ideals taken away by more “corporate” interests.

But anyway, Good Labyrinth, Good Loot, Overall Good Halloween thusfar.

It is indeed nice that they figured out a rewarding system for holidays. I do find it funny however that LA was decorated for Halloween before it was repaired with the gold players spent during the last Pavilion.

obviously LA government is like any RL government. I must praise A-Net for such accurate representation of government and their spending of money.

all joking aside, i also like the loot in the labyrinth

A bit of a tangent, but the Lich isn’t hard. Last night I was commanding a farming zerg around the Labyrinth for two hours and defeated the Lich many times.

Tips:
1) clear the area of adds, and clear the other nearby door event first
2) get everyone to stand in melee range (preferably push him into “his hut”), typical GW2 stacking behaviour here
3) stress the importance of watching out for the Retaliation boon, try to get your zerg to understand to stop attacking until that boon is removed
4) stress the importance to the farming zerg’s Mesmers and Necros that they need to put down AoE boon ripping when Retaliation comes up
5) give people a moment to adjust their utilities
6) Open the door and kill the Lich

If your farming zerg fails, DO NOT IMMEDIATELY RE-ATTEMPT. Your zerg’s moral will be crushed, and many people would have rage quitted. If you attempt immediately, you are just going to fail again, further crushing moral, and your map will probably clear out since you’re “obviously a commander that doesn’t know what you’re doing”.

Clear the rest of the map of doors, if there are no doors than just farm a bit in the middle. Build your farming zergs numbers and moral back up. Re-brief them on the tactics for fighting the Lich (because you will have many new members of the zerg, replacing all the rage quitters), then go kill the Lich.
