Once upon a time, there was a game. A game called Guild Wars 2. Many people played it. Many people were happy with it, and would play it without complaint. However, the Forum Posters were rarely ever happy with it. They would log on to the GW2 forums and whine and complain about every little problem in the game, saying it was stupid and broken.

Then one early September day, the Guild Wars 2 developers released an update. An update called the “September Feature Pack”. In the Feature Pack, the leveling system was changed to be more friendly to new users. The Forum posters did not like it. They did not like it one bit. But instead of simply going to the options menu and turning the new system off, they went to the forums, cried about it, called it stupid, and uninstalled the game.

That, my children is the story of the Forum Posters. But don’t get me wrong. Not all Forum Posters are bad. In fact, there are many good ones. Posters who give constructive criticism, give helpful feedback, and help each other out. Please, my children, be like a good Forum Poster. Don’t cry about everything you don’t like, and call the developers stupid. Don’t uninstall when something doesn’t go your way.

That is all.

And what of the Personal Story? Is there a way to put that back the way it was?

Oh, and I’ve just looked through the Options menu. There is no means of reverting to the previous leveling system.

No, I’ve double checked and the Personal Story is still chopped up. The section has even been erased from the Journal.

Just stop.

I never came to the forum’s to complain until Ascended Tier was announced within three months of Game Launch, every post I’d made before that time had the meter pegged on Full Fan Boy.

The Ascended gear Debacle signaled to me a fundamental change was in the works for GW2…a departure from a core design philosophy.

No matter what your opinion of the Ascended Tier introduction, you can’t say it was welcomed by everybody and deny that ANet screwed up in so many basic ways in regards to its inception into the game.

I have not been disabused of this opinion, in fact many of the game system changes have continued to gate and lock content further. Play it your way, is a laughable concept.

So, yes, the squeaky wheels still come to the forums, at least those who have not totally left the game they had held so much hope and, dare I say it, love?

I stopped playing for 8 months, came back and experienced the April Trait Changes…I hate the changes. ANet should have ADDED new Traits tied to certain goal oriented content instead of redistributing the Core Traits under a “new” system.

But, ANet has been pulling the rug out from under the Player’s feet since they announced the Ascended Tier, so no surprise really.

Apparantly so. All I could do was remove the compass, which I couldn’t care less about.

Or you could be a little less fast to jump to conclusions? I’ve been looking and looking for an option to turn the thing off, and not finding it until just now. Why is it on by default on veteran accounts anyway? That’s just sloppy programming.

Some forum posters need to check the facts before they post, much less before they start a thread making remarks about other people. >.>

Ahaha. This thread reads like a cautionary tale, just not the one the OP intended.

Though honestly it would have been hilarious if the option to turn this entire new system off had always been there and no one noticed until now.

The devs would just sit in there office looking at the forum laughing their butts off
