The introvert thread made me realize how much Commanders enhance/facilitate the fun I have in this game, as a player that does not really like to group in Fractals, Dungeons or sPvP. I am not guilded.

I love GW2’s concept of DE’s, it is still my main fun in the game. I also love to do Open World Bosses, Dynamic Event chains and Farm Trains, as well as zerging in WvW(to get achievements for my Legendary).

Because of Commanders I could do a WvW track, got all the achievements for Triple Trouble and Tequatl and have farmed many, many ingredients for my crafts and Legendary. I always scout the Map to see if I see any Commander tags.

A big thank you from me, and hopefully Anet will continue on the path of Open World content and DE’s.

Yes, commanders enhance the game experience quite a lot. And by commanders I mean people who actually command, not the idiots who just bought expensive bling so they could be seen from space.
I think that there are probably a lot of people who don’t understand that commanding is a job. They don’t just tag up so that they can be seen on the map, and continue to just play the game as normal. It’s a lot more work than that. And they do it because they want to help other players. Not that it isn’t fun. But it is demanding, and requires some commitment.
So thanks to anyone who makes an effort. And thanks especially to those who have made themselves very good at commanding.

+1 from me as well. Commanders have given me so much to do during my play times, and have also given me a beacon to follow when I’m not socially inclined towards being in a party.

I agree. Commanders have definitely enhanced my gaming enjoyment and allowed me to do things I otherwise would not have done. Both PVE and WvW commanders.

I wonder if Anet have considered the value of commanders and wether its worth considering incentivising the commander role further?

Would also be interesting if commanders got a special skills bar that activated if he had a squad of say 20+. Nothing OP, but perhaps a skill to do stuff like fire flares, reduce cool down on emergency WP , reduced personal resource (or gold) cost for siege to give a couple ideas of the top of my head.

re: I wonder if Anet have considered the value of commanders and wether its worth considering incentivising the commander role further? – Absolutely not. We want commanders commanding because they want to help other players, not because of some “incentive:”. Their value is that they help others. We don’t want people trying to command because they want whatever the “incentive” might be.

+1 to all of this

Also I agree with the OP. Thanks for leading, Commanders!

It’s interesting to me that the command system works as well as it does. The icons, the general respect, and the expense would seem to draw enough people just in it for the bling factor to poison it all, but instead it seems like the majority of people who take up a tag take the responsibility fairly seriously. I suppose the maximized visibility helps a lot; not many people want their name lit up while failing or looking foolish.

Also, agreed: I am always grateful to those who step up to organize the teeming MMO masses and guide them to victory.

Consider giving the commanders golds or whatever, it is a better show of appreciations.

I want to make 2 comments.

Overall I would also like to thank them. I admit, when this became a thing, I worried that most would be people who used gold just to have prestige.

There may be a few people who did that. However I find most to be competent and helpful. Sure there are varying degrees of that, but I could count on one hand the times I thought they was bad enough that I decided to leave.

I’m guessing the people that bought the tag, but did not deserve it, competence wise or helpful wise, quickly learned people won’t follow them.

The second thing I wanted to comment on is of a more humorous thing.

I have heard rumors of a video where a commander led his entire zerg off a cliff that was a little too high, just like lemmings, to there death.

I tried to find it, but couldn’t. Maybe its an urban legend. Either way, I would have found it hilarious if I was in that group.

If that indeed did happen, I could only imagine the comments from the aftermath.

I wish more commanders would realize it was more than bling. The best way to do that is to recognize when it is needed and when it should not be on.

For me: if I know an event down to what each NPC will say to signal an attack in PVE it (or the mentor tag) can go on. If I am in wvw though …. well, I am pretty much a newb there so if it is on I am in the foyer shortcutting back to LA and I forgot it.
