A bow firing flying rainbow unicorns
The unicorn Bow is probably the second most popular legendary in terms of looks, right behind Twilight. They seem to know what the majority of players want in terms of flying unicorns.
Bronies ruin everything.
Rifle that shoots rainbow pooping cats please!

Wear no disguise for me, come into the open.
What’s with the rage about a unicorn rainbow bow. I think it’s great, unique and original in stead of the usual typical ‘moar spikes, moar black and deadly flames and skulls’ type of legendaries in most games.
Everyone’s entitled to an opinion and of course if you don’t like it you don’t like it but there’s other legendaries that are the cool type so something light hearted and funny is refreshing to be honest. I like it

Well, you’re right on that.
I myself saw the quaggan backpack for the first time and thought: “whatever”. The patch hits in, I open the store, I look at the thing, it looks back at me, I hit “buy” and now it’s on my back. My Asura Cultural T3 used to be Oxblood and Coccoa. Now it’s Blue Sky and White Gold: http://imgur.com/QL9GRZ4
I want them to make it bigger on Asura too. :P
Unfortunately, I still hate rainbows and flying unicorns, though, specially when they’re supposed to be bow projectiles and I like some degree of immersion. I really hope my opinion changes in the future. I know the world won’t change because of me. :P
Now a request: If GW2 is going to become more and more a “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” bullkitten in the future, please tell me in advance so I can start looking for a more “for real” MMORPG already.
If the first thing your mind jumps to upon seeing a unicorn is MLP, that’s on you.
GW has always had some silly elements, if you absolutely have to take yourself so seriously, then ya, you’re better off looking for a more “for real” manly-man game of seriousness+4.

Wouldn’t hurt to give us the display option to turn the “rainbow flashiness” off for those moments where you want a little immersion or less rainbowness overall.

Thank you for the answer. That’s honestly what I was looking for with the post. I really didn’t know exactly what GW was about (didn’t play GW1 not even saw any videos) so maybe this game is just not what I expected. Still, it’s the best we have at the moment. Still a masterwork in so many aspects.
Shees, don’t you think you should take the videogame less seriously? Just because you don’t like light-hearted stuff it doesn’t mean that it should be removed from the game, or that it’s a bad thing. May I suggest the upcoming action-man MMO? It might suit your tastes.
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”

What I honestly got from this was ‘stop having fun’.
Who’s forcing you to use it? I personally got a great laugh from seeing someone pelted with stampeding rainbow unicorns.

Wow. Just…wow. I had to do a search to see the images and then I couldn’t believe it myself. I agree that GW2 always had some silliness, but this takes the cake. Warcraft got slammed for the “sparklepony” but at least it’s not all rainbows and kitchy.
I think the real problem is thus: “If I want a legendary Short Bow because I use Short Bows, I must get the one that shoots rainbow unicorns with ANet logos.” It’s the same problem many Necromancer players who like dark and foreboding effects and go “If I want a legendary Staff because I use Staves, I must get one that is all rainbows and sunshine.”
I think what should really be gotten out of this is thus: Players want the ability to choose. Right now we don’t have that ability. Of course, we could always choose to not get a legendary at all (which is a fine solution), but legendaries should not be exclusively for those who like rainbows and sunshine or darkness and death or whatever. There should be legendaries for all of us.
I play a ranger who is wearing mostly the cash shop armor with all the bones and fangs on it, with the skull facepiece, and the skull shoulders from the Halloween event. I had wanted an Arachnophobia for him as well but haven’t got around to making one. But when I saw this bow being used….well….

What is wrong with rainbows? They’re a real natural occurrence. As for in game it’s not that far fetched with purple butterflies (mesmer) green moths (necro) flying books (guardian) pink moas (rangers) shiny blue ghosts (Ascalonians) quaggan (obvious)
The list of colourful and/or strange magic and/or cute and/or funny things is endless in this game. It’s not ruining immersion that type of thing is already part of the game.
I hear nobody complaining about how unrealistic it is to have a sword that shows the universe inside it…. People need to lighten up up really it’s a game, it’s meant to be fun.

I’m working on an hypothesis regarding this:
The only people that hate rainbow bows that shoot unicorns at you are the people lying on the ground looking up at the ranger holding the rainbow bow that shot unicorns at them.
I’m getting the same vibe from this thread as I got when people first discovered that Norn do the Carlton. A serious lack of humour on the players side.
Not everything has to be dark, spikey, and bad kitten for it to be end game gear. I didn’t even relate it to Bronies, mainly cause I think it’s a stupid show. I thought it was a reference to Robot Unicorn Attack personally. Which made the weapon infinitely more awesome.
Quip has a special place in my heart too.
Besides, they’ve already said they’re going to make more legendary weapon skins. If you don’t like the funny stuff, hold your horses until they’ve made more. Yeesh.
I find this ugly and absolutely unfitting too, such crap is it, that turns a great game into childish junk (and it absolutely destroys immersion for everone who dislikes in every kind of way such childish stuff)
These things make those legendaries look not in any way epic, these kinds of stupid effects make weapons look just only completely laughable and in a bad way meant really hilarious. They turn legendaries into mostly stupid fun weapons, that absolutely can’t be taken anyhow serious anymore after this…
When I think on legendariy weapons, then I expect something, that really looks SERIOUSLY POWERFUL and not such rainbow ponny bullcrap thats being implemented only into the game cause of many stupid people just QQ enough over them, that they want to have such unfitting stuff in the game, what turns GW2 only more into a childish freak show, rather than into a very good fantasy game, where legendary weapons also look like serious legendary weapons and not like some magical silly toys….
Really, what will come next ? Rainbow shooting laser rifles and pistols ?
Weapons, that shoot out flying pigs ? Count me as over serious person, I don’t care, but somewhere should legendary weapons be more, than just joke weapons
Maybe it would be better if anet would make such fun skins for weapons into a “Toy Weapon Category”, so weapon skins/effects, that can be equipped as “toys” and should be only visible in TOWNS, but not anywhere else, so that people can have fun with thse skins, where nobody gets visually disturbed by these silly childish effects and there where you expect serious looking weapons will be such effects like these rainbow ponies never be seen .
Anyone, who likes this new effect of that bow, really has proven a very bad taste for weapon effects (for me at least)
This is the source of this weapon, most likely.
Stop being whiny babies about dying to unicorns. :O
Man people will complain about anything on these forums my god.
I agree, this unicorn stuff is horrible and should be removed immediatly.

absolutely.
but if you like bows that shoot unicorns and rainbow in your fantasy mmo…
explain me… WHY ???

Because you don’t have to take games seriously 100% of the time…

I like fun and I like smiling.
Why do you want me to be sad? ._.

I get what you are trying to do and wish it would work but not, this is a brony bow.
The unicorn Bow is probably the second most popular legendary in terms of looks, right behind Twilight. They seem to know what the majority of players want in terms of flying unicorns.
It’s a troll weapon with a troll design. This update took it too far. If I ever see rainbow unicorns coming out of a bow from a nearby player, I’m leaving the area immediately. I will not party with someone with this bow, this graphic is far too immersion breaking for me. I understand the desire to make legendaries special to make them appealing and justify their exorbitant cost, but the design and presence of this weapon directly takes away from my experience in the game.
They went to far and at some point the designed need to recognise that you can cross a line where a legendary item will detract from the experience of people around them. I believe this weapon (especially compared with the other legendaries) clearly crosses that line.
I’d love the option to turn this off.

I think most people are accepting of Kudzu and it’s covered in flowers and leaves floral footprints. They don’t seem to be bothered by a bow which represents some kind of powerful bond with nature. What does the brony bow represent? GW2 hipsters and bronies, people who like things because they are ironic and trollish. There are no unicorns in Tyria as far as I know, the bow itself looks like a 6 year old girl’s cheap plastic toy (no other legendary looks like that) and there is nothing else in Tyria that makes me think there is any way that this weapon thematically fits in with any lore or power that I can think of. The entire concept seems to be intended to appeal to people who want a troll item that draws attention and break immersion as much as possible. To me, no item should do that.

no. a bow that shoot unicorns and rainbows makes me sad.
hovering on brooms a la potter too.
i guess the game is not discriminating and EVERYBODY can find something they like, even the “different” peeps.

This really shows how different everyone is and how hard it would be to please everyone. I am a girly-girl. Almost all my characters are decked out in pinks and purples. I cursed my color choice of hair ribbons on my main until the day make-over kits came out. I have deleted girls just because I didn’t like their hair style. I love mini-pets and all things flashy and cute.
And, having said ALL that, I would not use this bow. It is just toooo sweet even for me.
But I have no problem with those who do like it and even that it was created. It would be nice to be able to turn off the gooey sweetness but I’ll just choose another type of weapon to work toward aquiring.
I’m not against rainbows, but I only like them in effects like the Guardian’s ‘lens flares’ in many of their skill visuals, or as part of the terrain.
I’m guessing the next thing will be a hammer with a teddy bear as a hammer head that hugs you when it hits you (hit numbers will become hear-shaped), then Nyancat rifles, guns that fire yawning hedgehogs, and further down the road, in a future expansion, Longcat and tacgnol dual whips.
Oh, the huge manatee…
Bronies ruin everything.
Careful, they have spies infiltrated and pulling strings everywhere, and manage to get in trouble anyone even insinuating anything remotely negative about them.

I see you can appreciate another person’s point of view. This is good. I think we’ve made real progress.
Now let’s make out.
im ok with pink armor and hair ribbons and quaggan (not as a backpack).
but a bow is a WEAPON. and shooting rainbows and unicorn is just cheesy.

A +1 for that.
Dearest ANet developers,
Please give us the option to turn off the “unicorny” effects.
Lol. Believe or not, whenever I re-watch the video, I think to myself: “I still can’t believe they did this to the game.”

It’s kinda hard to not pick up on the undercurrent of homophobia in a lot of the complaints in this thread… but way to make it crystal clear.
Caught that comment and couldn’t go silent.
I hope it is very clear that there is absolutely nothing to do with homophobia in my anti-rainbow/anti-unicorn opinion. It is the breaking of immersion that annoys me. The effect would be exactly the same if the bow shot flaming Rock Dogs: it just makes absolutely no sense.
Judging from the crowds of people surrounding anyone that pulls out The Dreamer, I’d say the rainbow bow is immensely popular
… The effect would be exactly the same if the bow shot flaming Rock Dogs: it just makes absolutely no sense.
Ooh, that would be sweet… Longbow Legendary, please!

True, but I don’t think they are popular because the actually look really cool. I think they are popular because they scream “Look at me, I have a Legendary!”
I had absolutely no idea that a unicorn bow that shoots rainbows existed.
That’s so whimsical it’d be right at home in the Weasley house. I cheered when it was blown up.
If I’d known GW2 was going to become Rainbow Brite Online, I’d have just bought either Aion, Forsaken World or perhaps Hello Kitty Online and spent a lot less on ridiculous schlock.
Yes, there have always been fun elements in Guild Wars, but one of the things that attracted me to the original was the fact that they were references to something else (Grabthar’s Hammer, for example, a reference to “Galaxy Quest” or “Ellie Rigby” being a reference to a Beatles song, and so forth). They were never in-your-face, immersion-killing fluffy, nice-nice, BS nonsense.
Suddenly I feel like we’ve come to “Disney Online: Curse of the Cutesey Fecal Matter” and so much further away from Guild Wars than this game has ever been.
More of ANet pandering to the rival game kiddies and turning our beloved Guild Wars into “Guild WoW.” Ugh.
I agree that those childish things detract a lot from GW2.
It makes me feel like the game is for childs and I’m a bit on the old side so it sort of makes me wonder if I’m playing the right game for me.
Not that I’d rather have yet another “dark” MMO mind you, but I think we can find a grey area between little mice singing kumbaya in circle while puking rainbows and mega dark warriors with red eyes throwing lazorz from their mouths.
Like, a somewhat realistic fantasy setting.
On a related note, is GW2 a children’s game?
Seriously…I don’t know anymore.
update ubaid and Red Falcon You both got your posts in before I was done typing. :P I agree with both of ya’ll though. “Guild WoW”…I lol’d at this.
I troll because I care

always makes me laugh how people are apparently too manly and/or serious to be able to bear the presence of this bow.
I feel the same.
But I also find 90% of the legendaries ugly, I mean, really ugly, and the other 10% just “meh”.
This would be nice to costume battles and alike, but hey, people like it.
I can’t imagine Link in Ocarina of Time using that bow and I’m really surprised the tolerance of the people before bad cuteness-overload. Well, it isn’t even cute, I love kitty cats (Hey, I’m breathing), but that bow…? -_-
It’s nice people try to make theories about why other people don’t like the bow, but I have a wide sense of humor (It’s ok to say it?), that’s not the problem, I guess the problems come more in the shape of a representation of the false improvement that weapons and power give to the human ego, the more badas, the more boost.
But Legendaries are all about “prestige” one of the most useless and refined forms of ego, what do you want for me?

Yup, the same thing happened at release with ppl complaining about mesmer and purple butterflies effects… it just didn’t suit their manly man aesthetics.
I also have a sneaking suspicion ppl complaining about it being “childish”..are probably 15-25 and desperate to prove how adult they are.
