For the last 10 years my wife and I have been playing the Guild Wars franchise, and we have done everything together, and we are both very excited about being part of this beta, as we were the last ones, all the way back to the GW1 E3 beta.

But now, for the first time, due to the RNG of the Portal stone drop, only one of us can go into the new map, we have to leave the other behind, or not go at all.

Anet, next time you do something like this with the Portal Beta drop, remember that some of us plays this game with our partners.

Solution: don’t use your beta key and wait to explore HoT together when it comes out :P

I think you can both handle not being able to play one beta event together, especially considering how many betas you’ve been able to play together before now.

If you don’t want to play without your partner, then don’t play. Wait until open beta. Or let her hop on your account and play for a bit during the beta event.

So what was your point with this thread? Some people play in guilds that do everything together. Do you want ANet to hand out keys to everyone a RNG winner knows so no one gets left out (sniffle sniffle)?

So the human to which you’ve inexorably tethered your existence and around which you’ve redefined all meaning of self can’t participate in every single thing you do… wow, what a tragedy.

Tbh I’m getting pretty sick of this beta portal craze… but I guess they can’t have any kind of beta selection without massive QQ from people who can’t participate, as if it’s going to be anything more than a few hours’ worth of unpaid labor.

No, it’s not over. They said it’d be up for “a week or longer”, and it hasn’t even been a week yet.

It’s nice that y’all do absolutely everything together but the game can’t hand out one of the limited invitations based on person A always plays with person B.

That is unfortunate.

I was lucky as I farmed for mine for about a day and finally dropped 1.
Then the next day I took my partner’s account and farmed all day and dropped 1 for him.

I’m glad I was able to do this, but knowing that this was RNG based, I was ready to accept I wasn’t going to get one for me, or even for my partner.

If I were in your situation, I would probably share with my partner my account and take turns and then when the expansion would have got out, we would have been able to enjoy it together in the end either way.

Who knows maybe you can still drop another one.. I hope you do.

Phew! My GL played around 2 hours and didn’t get a Portal drop. So, we wouldn’t be able to play in the Beta together. That would be….truly unfortunate.

ArenaNet…thank you for the opportunity to try to get a Portal, though. Such a better incentive than just refreshing an email account, to check for an invitation.

Similar boat as OP. Portal dropped for my wife, but not for me.
And, I’m OK with it.

Why?

Perspective. It’s just a beta, it’s not the full xpac.
Even if I do get a portal, they are only granting us finished bits at a time. It’s not the whole show, only a segment of it.
I suspect that the primary purpose of this beta is to build hype.
Well, I’m hyped. I don’t need any more hype. I’m over-hyped.
It’s a sale Anet, if I get in to a Beta or not.

This being said, you darn right I’ll be looking over her shoulder from time to time while she plays.

Same situation here, OP. My fiance got the beta key while we were both online this past weekend. I plan to watch her play and enjoy the experience from a non-player perspective. I just love to see her happy and she was thrilled when the key dropped!

Take it in turns to play.

As far as I know there will be no progression to your account. In other words it would be like playing on a brand new account for the beta, this is good news for you since you’ll be able to take turns without missing out on any type of rewards for either account.

Me and the wife played all week both got nothing. Be happy one of you even have one. Geez your entitlement is boundless. Why not just watch the other play or take turns. going all the way to the forums to cry about this?? Really? Lawls!!

Technically it’s illegal to share an account with members of the same household.

(b) Each Account may only be used by one person.

They also go into provisions for a minor (age 13-17) But thats the only time that an account may be used by another.

Whether or not Anet chooses to enforce it is up to them. Also, if your partner decided to spend all you gold or send it to their account, or whatever, because they were feeling contrary that day, there is nothing that CS can or will do for you.

Other than that I suppose you should just farm some more and get your own portal.

And i Think you should remember Beta is work not play . So you are complaining about not being able to work with your wife …

Plenty of time to get another portal. I’m pretty sure anyone who REALLY wants a portal WILL get a portal. They’re obviously not going to give them away at a high drop rate. However within the week+ time period you should be able to get another one. As far as I know it drops from bonus chests on the bottom right side, chests from mobs (champs), VW big chest, and flat out drop from mob that goes directly into your inventory.

That being said all you need to do is increase your chances by doing events or killing mobs that drop loot. I found the more efficient way to farm one out was in Dry Top. I spend most of my time in SW and I never got one. Went to Dry Top and boom easy farm.

Reason is this: SW “event mobs” DO NOT drop loot AT ALL. Maybe some of the escort mobs that spawn (but I don’t think even those). Whereas Dry Top event mobs DO drop loot. Both will give that bottom right bonus chest on completion of successful event. That being said find events in Dry Top (active map) equip spammable AoE + AoE sigil on weapon and farm like you’re farming an Orr Temple :P

You’re chances should dramatically increase.

Events like Skritt Defense @ Repair Station are great especially when scaled. (hence it’s good to be in a very active map).

Anyways that’s just a suggestion…

Most of us who are farming this area intently will not get even one Portal invite drop and the OP is upset because he can’t have TWO?

Wow, I mean just WOW.

While it’s unfortunate, closed beta access is always done by some form of random determination. That includes sites that take emails/applications, so the portal idea doesn’t really break the trend.

My friend’s wife wanted in on the Heroes of the Storm beta, but she couldn’t get in for a quite a while. They handled the ‘separation’ just fine. Good luck to you and yours.

Me and my gf also play this game, I got a portal, she did not.

So, I do what any loving bf would do, I’m grinding the sw on her account to get the invite.
Even if she doesn’t get one, she will be over my shoulder watching and will probably kick me off my computer to play, or explore.

Get on your wifes account. Go grind SW if she doesnt have the time. OR
Be prepared to take turns to beta test.

Maybe they could have done it so that there is a chance to drop it from RNG, but if you farm x amount of crests you could also buy one from the vendor.

This way the hard working people still have a chance to get a pass.

And this is any different than random beta invites how? At least you still have a chance to keep farming to get it.

Can’t you just rotate who plays it and sit next to eachother and watch the other one play it until it’s the next one’s turn?
