A logical plea for *one* FFA server :)
So essentially youre asking for a multiple map WvW but with player names visible and a few more events? A game such as GW2 doesnt need these FFA areas due to a combination of:
- a lack of a need to ‘camp’ a good grinding spot.
- the fact you can store gold and items in a bank, so nothing better than the items gained during WvW would drop. Players would port out and store valuables after they get them before coming back in.
- WvW is available.
Its would be nice to have more events in WvW, this I agree with. Everything else is asking for something that is already inside of the game.
Retired and living in a shack. Relaxing!
The dynamic event system, the way loot drops work, I just don’t see it working well as a FFA game. Since so many attacks are aoe or splash/pierce/etc, at a dragon fight you’d end up killing each other and not the dragon.
There are some good real pvp games out there. I’m afraid GW2’s core design elements preclude it from ever being one.
Dunno about a server, but you could start by suggesting a minigame? Say a battle royale with entry fee, winner-takes-all? Don’t know if that satisfies your needs, but I’d say starting small may help your ideas get across (if it gets very popular, you have a good case to ask for more
)?

No, I do appreciate the interest but I think you misunderstood me. I am asking them to remove the inability to attack other players in standard outdoor areas on our own server. I am not sure if you have played a game like that before – it’s a blast
I think it’s terrible to have some anti-social thief sneak up on me and kill me so he can /dance over my body.
Honestly, if it’s done right, I would be all for this. They’d have to let you have only one character, no bank, start with full 20 slots, no TP, and still have characters on a primary server.
Downlevelling would still be in full effect, and actually have it’s strength increased slightly (exotics and whatnot would be downscaled to greens/yellows as appropriate), and players would be marked based on their murder tendancies.
i cant see how this could work… but i would like to see some servers with open world pvp and some sieges. etc..
I doubt they would do this, but if they do, I think such FFA server should have total FFA AOE. It means all AOE will hit anyone, both friends or foe with no immunity on party members or guild members. This would encourage more strategic use of their skills.
Programer and Dev time taken away from the game to convert a game from Pve to PVP the cost or balancing in effect two games.
There is a reason why no one does ffa pvp, there is no way to make money off it, Aion died because of it by the time they got rules in to stop the gankers farming newbs in low level zone the population was gone.
There is no way to make pvp ffa with out having basment dwelling low lifes trying to make the experience as unplesant as posible for the rest of the population.
There is no “strong” fan base if there was one there would be half a dozen ffa PvP games on the market
FFA in modern WoW type MMO’s has been, and always will continue to be a terrible idea.
Instead of pushing for such a thing, instead push for a increase in landmass for WvW.
I’d be fine with something like this.
One server? Sure. There’s probably enough interest in this to have a nice population for one server.
Then all the people that say “it won’t work, no good, I don’t like getting ganked etc”…can continue playing on all the others.
I say this as someone that probably wouldn’t even play on it.

What Cargan said in Spades. I’ve played free for all MMO before and the cellar dwellers will make life as unpleasant as possible for anyone and everyone. With visible names the forums would be even less pleasant.
On the other hand I would love to see a wide open Battle Royal instance map that resets hourly. There should be a buy-in to get in and the prize is divided among the survivors. Terrain, or gladiator ring? Both! But die once and you sit out until the next reset.
There could be some interesting guild tactics arise of that. That would be guild wars.
Also, 1v1 with spectators would most certainly be popular with guilds. Guilds could run their own tourneys, and teach builds/skills etc. Gladiator ring would be fine, but practice zones of the usual maps would help too.
In short, anything to get people playing more PvP.

You guys take a pretty definite line – they’re a hero, they’re going to have this particular moral alignment. It’s “how are you going to achieve this heroic thing” rather than “are you an kitten”. Is that degree of extra freedom superfluous in other games?
No – it depends on the kind of game you’re playing. We’ve said from the beginning that Guild Wars 2 is a game about heroes. If you’re playing a game about villains there should totally be choices to be a villain. What we wanted to do was tell a story that ends hopefully in the defeat of the dragons, and the choices of bad guy who would do that fall into anti-hero. So that was as far as we were willing to go.

A FFA overflow wvw would be fun. Have an open word where any one can join if they wanted to and its all done on the wvw maps.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA

They did a 180 on one philosophy, no reason they can’t do another 180 on a second.
You liked that in UO?
I started playing just after they changed it so new players/characters started in the non-PVP map and the attitude from everyone was that you should never, ever, switch over because there was absolutely no up-side to it. If you wanted to fight someone there were places you could go to do it without having to put up with every idiot you came across trolling you with over-powered spells.
Honestly I still feel the same way. If you want to fight one person to see how you match up you can do it via sPVP. If you want to fight them using your exisiting gear and/or fight a lot of people you can go to WvW. And if you don’t want to, if you want to play cooperatively (or play alone) you can do it without some idiot coming along and trying to ruin the fun.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’m all for different servers other than just name, that is in mmo’s future, someone will try it and it will succeed.
But I do chuckle at this: 2. “It will stop a ton of people from leaving for Darkfall 2”, please kitten, that is a small small niche game.
It will stop a ton of people from leaving for Darkfall 2
Well…considering I can find an incredibly tiny amount of info on this game on the internet, and that their own website says the game released on November 20th, but hasn’t yet released…..makes me believe that the number of people who will leave GW2 for DF2, aka…a nothing MMO, will be very small
Just because you and a couple friends are excited for a game, doesn’t mean that everyone is. Seems like DF2 is just another Mortal online.
