Magic (or powers) or Tech in fiction (most definitely including games), which do you prefer and why? You may use examples from known characters such as Iron Man or Wonder Woman to support your point and you may also not participate and think it’s a lame topic of conversation and hate me and never talk to me again cuz I’m lame and have head lice.

Um…ok. Might want to get that looked at…

I prefer fantasy as in Magic/Dragons, all that stuff. Rather than Science Fiction, though I do enjoy that, as well.

I have 3 preferences all of equal status:

Fantasy
Sci-Fi
Comicbook

I get my Fantasy fix with GW2, Sci-Fi with SWToR, and Comics with DCUO.

I should clarify a bit, what I intended to ask was individually as in character-wise that share the same setting as in within the same game or the same comic series or the same movie… for example, preference of character’s like Engineers (tech) versus Elementalists (magic), or if outside the GW universe, probably like comparing Gandalf (magic) vs Iron Man (Tech) and so on and so forth… I’m just trying to see if I can convince myself which archetype is cooler, if magical casters or non-magical, realistic types like engineers and warriors. It’s actually a silly way of trying to see which I’d prefer, my mesmer or my engineer based on aesthetics and cool factor lol. Feel free to ignore if topic is uninteresting from this point on

Fantasy and Comic (?) for me.

I was planning on having GW2 and City of Heroes/Villains (R.I.P.) as my last MMO’S I will ever play but that took a turn when CoH shutdown.

GW2 is great but there is a void left where CoH/V was and now I’ve been pretty active in GW1

Sorry for the typos….
I’m usually typing on my phone

There was a pretty sweet thread on this a while back on reddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/whowouldwin/comments/20nk6o/powers_vs_magic_vs_tech/

Adding it here so you guys can sorta see what I was going for with the question and maybe you can contribute your own take on it on this thread.

I would prefer magic over tech. Magic according to most literature has to be harnessed within the magic user before it can be used. It is a part of the caster whereas tech can be easily set aside making it less personal. For example Thor is a creature of magic and is always Thor whereas Iron Man, when he sets aside the armor is just Tony Stark.

In GW2 catch a mesmer asleep and they would wake up and be able to fight because the magic is part of them. Catch an engineer in bed and he would have to fumble around to gather up his tech before putting up a resistance.

i prefer tech, cybernetic style.

like edge of tomorrow/all you need is kill, need a kick kitten female tech warrior wielding a giant battleaxe but without the “unable to lift the heavy weapon animation” that is currently in gw2 for female greatswords

Hmm..well, I use my Ranger most (no idea which category that is) and probably my Necromancer next, usually.

My Engineer is parked outside my Home Instance, so….
