I would like to say thanks to the Guild Wars 2 community for almost an entire year of being nice to each other, helping each other, treating each other with respect and creating an overall positive atmosphere in this game.

Really, all of you deserve a big ‘thank you’. Everyone.
Thanks to the people who go out of their way to help other players with events and skill points.
Thanks to the people who take the time to revive other players even though there is a giant dragon or a horde of mobs coming your way.
Thanks to the people who go out of their way to help introduce new players to the game and teach them how this game functions.
Thanks to the people who make constructive posts on the forums in order to help the devs improve this beautiful world we call Tyria.

I have never seen such a fantastic community in a game before, and I don’t think I ever will again.

I applause you.

That said, there will always be whiners and trolls which is why I am posting this early, because soon the anniversary will be upon us and then the Horde of Entitlement will rush to the forums and scream because the new stuff they got for free ain’t the colour they wanted it to be.

What we do in life echoes in eternity

Sorry dude but I have to say it, I’m playing this game from beta up to now, and I can clearly see that community becomes worst with time. Nearly all locations r occupied with pseudo “pro players” calling ppl : noob, idiot and other trash talk. If you r new to game, you ll have hard life because most of the players won’t explain to you how to do something what is the tactic for dungeon or fractal. Yeah there is youtube or wiki, but normally in mmo communicate with each other. I also seeing many patology playing with dungeon party for example kicking just before finishing (I mean few seconds before last chest appear). I saw it many times, and the reason was usually that someone is new to game or two friends had a troll mood and it was fun to them. Noone explains what to do. Its very common behaviour now. I really feel sorry for this situation because I’ve been playing many mmos starting with ultima online, and what I see that most of the kids don’t know what is respect and fun. Thruth hurts but I had to say it.

Sry for my english.

Mel, I will have to respectfully disagree with your view. The game caters to casuals and players who run cookie-cutter ezmode builds. It’s only that way because the majority of people don’t want to try and put in any effort. Zerging is a thing only because it’s efficient and mindless.

However, playing in a close-knit group can give you greater rewards with just as much effort (as long as you’re capable of playing the game past 2 buttons). Arah P1+2+3 in under 2 hours is a simple feat if you work with others on a constant basis and know how to play.

With that said, the vocal part of the community is always going to be full of negative nancy’s.

I have to fully agree with the OP in this one. Despite all the negativity that sometimes surround this game, the amount of goodwill and good play I experience in the game (at least on my server, Crystal Desert for life! ) is truly something unique that this game has among most others….

Simple things such as bowing respectfully to players of another WvW server when farming for badges of honor in the jumping puzzle, and choosing NOT to attack each other because of mutual respect for the same goal. It’s a simple process of respect and mutuality that is repeated time and time again with events, skill points, quests, and challenging enemies. Almost everyone is willing to support each other, and almost everyone is willing to revive someone they see downed. Almost everyone says thank you when help is given, and almost everyone is enthusiastic when help is requested.

ALMOST everyone, of course, as with everything in both life and game…not everyone is perfect. I will say though that in my experience with the game, the vast majority of people are.

+1 for the OP. I never had such a great community to play a game in before, the GW2 community (at least in-game) is amazingly helpful and nice and I feel really welcome in the game.

As long as you’re talking about the community in the game (as opposed to the forum), then I agree 100%!

I disagree.

I think the community is by far the worst aspect of Guild Wars 2. A game that in theory would get players who want to have fun has been flooded by players who just want to grind, farm, and exploit.

Every bad decision made since release can, IMO, be traced back to what the players want and how they play the game.

I’m sure the GW2 community must be great for a MMORPG community. But MMORPG communities are bad in the first place, so GW2 is just the best among the worst.

I agree OP.
the community in the game is awesome.
I talk to my friends who play other MMO’s and I can’t believe the stuff they have to put up with.
I have been playing since the betas and I am blessed to be on an amazing server.
I have yet to see someone being a real kitten in this game and I love it

I agree too, OP, and nicely said. I have been blown away by the kindness, generosity and maturity of the community and my experience in the time I have been playing has been very positive. The beautiful world of Tyria seems to bring out the best in people.

Really?

We don’t know what the majority of players think.

ArenaNet does know, though, what the majority of players do.

What if they had seen that most players were actually farming Orr, instead of doing anything else in the game? What if they saw a massive number of players leaving in October, so they rushed to add Ascended gear and Fractals in November? What if then they saw a huge amount of players moving to Fractals, slowing the loss of players around the end of the year and even increasing the number of people online? What if they have learned that the most played activities in the game are those that people farm, like the dailies, World Bosses after the introduction of the rare chest, and CoF1?

Would we really be able to say, then, that the mistakes were due to the vocal minority in the forum? Or due to the silent majority that we don’t listen, but ArenaNet sees?

Absolutely, Naus the Gobbo. There’s generally a great bunch of people in game. Even if they don’t talk back often their actions speak louder.

Personally around launch the community was the best, and in early lifespan of MMO’s the community tends to be at (anticensorwordlol) its best because alot is unfamiliar. Currently GW2 still has alot of those people and it’s ‘only’ 1 year old. I don’t see this changing much in the future. There are elitists in every game and I think just about everyone that games regularly has taken a game a bit too serious at times. It’s those people that sometimes lose their patience and get mad or talk others down. Personally I don’t see them often and comparing this to a couple of other MMO’s I’ve played, overall my own experience is better here. The only downside is the silent travellers, you do stuff together at events and see alot of ppl but almost nobody ever says a word and that’s not down to the game, it happens in all MMO’s. It’s a bit of a missed oppertunity to meet new people but I’m getting OT here.

Well to be honest more I play the game, the more I think community is pretty same like in any other game. Ofcourse it’s not so childish like in Cod or lol maybe, but there are still many people that are not very nice, to say it this way. I’m poiting out on www eb campers ( the ones who camp 24h and then laugh on your body.. and please dont start they defend blueprints, they only do this to enjoy over other people failing or whatever, another example from today zerg doing with commander orr farming and some people troll them killing the champs right before them on purpose not saying anything, another example is gauntlet and rezzing people walking by laughing…) And last thing. I made so many friends in gw1 but in gw 2 I didn’t make a single good friend yet.

im going to yes i agree there have been times where a champ was near a point where we need to commune where another needs it too so one distracts the champs while one gets the commune then comes back and rezzes the first person then does the distraction himself to help out the other guy. ive seen calls out for help in chat a way more needed come to help out a cal then needed. yes i also agree when the game was newer there was more help but people still do it. the rezzers of downed people might mean you get less loot from a boss but lots of people still do it. i know i do. rezzing down people so they dont have to waypoint to get a dragon chest before you grab the chest yourself

Well, I am new to GW2 but I have always tried to be nice and help people. And I like to play my own way and screw efficiency…. I like to have fun, not feel like I am working when playing a game.

I think the game is pretty good, but I think ANet needs to look to The Secret World on suggestions to balance PvE elements. TSW is open class too, but there is a pseudo-trinity in the background that makes sure that Dungeons are not speed runs and zerg fests….

Lol, TSW could look at GW2 to see how to balance PvP as well….

I have to strongly disagree. While at launch the community was very pleasant, especially for an MMO community, it’s devolved a lot since then. It started with people simply getting bored of helping others and just telling people to ‘google it’ or to ‘just use the wiki’ when people asked for help, and now it’s reached the point where people are actually abusive to people who are new and inexperienced, or even for interrupting their champion farming by playing the game correctly and completing an event.

At first the whole ‘everyone gets loot from mobs and rewards from events’ caused people to actively help each other, but now a large portion of the player base seem to be of the mindset of ‘screw everyone else, I just want what -I- want’.

I see a bit of both in the community, I think the point is saying thanks to the (possibly majority?) who are helpful, kind and just fun to talk to / play with. I have come accross, and seen examples of, some really amiable gamers and on the whole my experience has been great

I managed to finish this post with a strait face despite all the innuendo I accidentally wrote. o_O

My experiences on Tarnished Coast have been pretty good for the most part, far and above most other games and their respective communities.

For the people that disagree with the OP, maybe try another server?

Can I be disappointed with the Anniversary offerings without being called entitled plz??

I don’t Farm “the Meta” and I stayed FAR FAR away from COF. And I stop and help other people who are struggling with Events every chance I get. I go waaaaay out of my way to set up Pre-Events ahead of time… often soloing stuff that was intended for THREE players to be fighting at once …. just to make everything easier for everyone else who joins in on the main Events later on. I’ll even run dungeons for people or donate expensive Insignia’s to their “build Testing” so long as they aren’t requesting that help half an hour before I’m supposed to be heading to bed. I do it b/c it’s just what I do. I don’t know HOW to enjoy doing anything else. When other people make a big deal about it I actually get a little uncomfortable (character flaw/issues? probably…need to work on that)

All I want in return…. is simple celebration stuff like we had in Gw1 that doesn’t BREAK the rest of the game or cause every other zone & dungeon in the game to Empty out. We got Cupcakes, and Minis… and we were HAPPY. We were so goshdarned content that we’d pay 70+ Platinum for some of those Gifts from people who weren’t completely happy with theirs. ….that was back when everything wasn’t automatically soulbound

Is asking for that too much? Would that really make me entitled?
