Not that I do not value or dislike the patches we were given after GW2’s release, but honestly, we could use some more serious, dire, more terrifying threat to deal with, a la Zhaitan or some other big baddy. What do you think guys? Will Anet start making the living story a bit more towards that direction – more ’’serious’’ story? Give me your takes on it!

i really hope we get to fight a lot of mobs, that attack queensdale or divinits reach or multiple maps.

something like they had in rift, where there were world rift events. i’d like some random mass mob attacks that happen out of the blue on a certain map. in rift when they started that whole thing i would stay up and wait for until some event happened.

the world should be ever changing and if u fail to defend something, let it be destroyed and maybe have to rebuild it. and i prefer it to be more random as otherwise we have the same old: “yo,jormag is up in 5 minutes”

They’ve said that in the next update (or maybe it was the one after) that we will see where all these little arcs were going, and how they tie into the overall big picture.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I don’t know about the living story but the fight against the elder dragons will continue. Presumably this would be a more serious storyline.

Yeah another real dragon threat and a storyline/dungeon(s) to accompany it would really make my day. No mini-games, few achievs, just another personal story (or hey, a co-op story like gw1) a couple solid dungeons and a decent dragon boss fight.

It would be awesome.

My understanding from Colin’s blog post is that the story will become deeper over the course of the remainder of the year. This should include seeing more permanent content where our play shapes the future of the game. I believe that they just got religion around this concept so it may take awhile to get underway.

GW2 needs to move away from small temporary boring festival content every 2 weeks, to serious permanent content updates less frequently.

I disagree in a way as i don’t see how difficult it’d be to do both.

I think we’ll see some ‘more serious’ content in the future. They have stated that personal story and dragon stuff is more of what we would see in a typical expasion; however at that time they hadn’t decided how they wanted to do expansions. They’ll let us know when they make that decision and when it becomes relavent.

The LS is the story of the world, which is something different. I expect to see festivals for the different races. Random occurrences, like the death of a council member and then subsequent politics for filling that open seat. The celebration of a queens reign. All these things make sense and the additional links between each, gives the things a little more depth. Hopefully we’ll see something for the Charr culture, and something pertaining to the Sylvari, etc in future updates.

Colin has also stated that we will see more permanent impact on the world from LS. New zones, destruction, etc. Things that require more work, more effort, and more time. It has been stated that there are larger teams beyond the 4 living world teams that are working on larger content things. We just need to have patience.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I’m still waiting for the next elder dragon to wake up… We are already fighting their minions (Kalkatorric – Branded, Jornag – Corrupted, Primordius – Destroyers, etc)

Any of those would be a great adition (we don’t even need to fight them like Zhaitan but at least move on in history, who cares about queen jennah’s 10 years of bla bla)

I’ll be perfectly honest peeps. I agree for the most part with your replies, just to make it clear
Now,my thing is,even though i do not play WoW, I am a strong follower of the lore. After watching the above linked youtube video regarding the latest patch, I was actually pumped and excited! Now, I don’t say GW2’s trailers and occurences in the LS updates weren’t exciting and all, but in my honest opinion, we could use something that would ’’unite’’ us against a perilous villain/enemy. I believe Arenanet has tricks up their sleeve, judging by the candid lore following they managed to round up with the first game,Guild Wars 1. We STILL have a lot of Dragons to slay, enemies to best, Tyrians to rescue.

The problem with the living story is that it doesn’t really allow for engaging serious storylines because it’s temporary content.

I’ll be honest, I rather like the smaller scale and overall lightness of the Living Story.

To me, one thing that always kinda made MMORPGs seem weird was that they kept getting these end-of-the-world scale threats so often. I mean, what kind of world is it when you beat one world-consuming abomination only for the next one to emerge a week later? And how would they explain that the heroes never get even slightly tired or depressed about it?

And really, it makes the world… more alive. While our characters might be heroes, they’re not the only people in the world. And ordinary people have celebrations, elections and stuff like that.

And of course, having a villain (group) that is not about ending the world for no apparent reason is actually pretty nice. I just hope that they flesh out the Aetherblades a bit more. There needs to be proper reason why they’re terrorizing the people. Can you imagine how hilarious it would be if the villain was terrorizing the people because they’re celebrating and not fighting the dragons? That would be so hilariously meta that I think that would result in a massive explosion of lolz on the forum.

I can’t say I agree with that.

I.E look at life. Full of temporary, one-time events that can engage and move us.

It just requires good storytelling (pacing, storytelling through gameplay ect) and giving us time to get emotionally invested in the story. So while it’s hard to achieve this in a two-week schedule, to say that temp content cannot provide a compelling story is untrue.

Life is a journey.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.

I really liked the story with Braham and Rox, much better than most parts in the personal story. The living story with the woman in Divinity’s Reach was also very good, i liked the black and white cutscene and she had a lot of personality.

The story is getting very exciting. I love the complexity of the story, how there is all these hints interwoven throughout the game. Makes for a very rich MMO experience

I’d just be happy to get any kind of actual LORE, or PLOT at this point.
It doesn’t have to be Jormag or Kralk or (better yet) Primordus…

I’d rather see it actually build towards something. No one honestly gives a crap about keeping the Charr from fighting with Humans. The Norn were always plenty happy to be fighting with the Charr. And the Charr obviously loved fighting humans. Look at the way Pyre always toyed with Gwen, he was obviously enjoying it… And that’s what fun plot looks like. It has real history behind it and a real future ahead of it.

…at this rate…

Instead of actual guild wars type storyline we’re going be seeing those annoying chain CC’spamming Aether nerds team up with with fail ninjas from cantha so then we’ll just have a buncha zombies and pirates and ninjas all day and only 1 of them ever drops Charged stones. ZZzzzz …I miss the “GuildWars Beyond” content we used to get b/c that gave guaranteed rewards along the whole storyline which even gave people who don’t care about story or lore some reason to do it anyway. Staggered Rewards + Plots >>> RNG + random Festivals

^that too… The Zhaitan story dungeon is way too Filler-loaded and padded out when all they needed to do was just make a bigger version of Nightfall’s final battle

….has anyone even done the Abbadon fight in the last few years? It got MASSIVELY buffed and makes the Fight right before it against Shiro look easy as pie… I have to change every single skill bar on all my Heroes just to beat it now when it used to be a total face roll.

That’s actually a really good idea. Have mobs attack LA or Divinity’s Reach, it gets destroyed, and then you have to go 3 days to a week without it because all of the merchants/npcs/bankers evacuated the city. It’d definitely make it a little more exciting than it has been.

I’ve been asking for this for a while, but came to the realization a while back that the current culture of Anet simply won’t allow for a thematic that I think many of us may be craving. The dev team seem far too keen on lighthearted, cute, flamboyant and less “mature” content and art style. Even the textures and animations seem exaggerated/showy. The confusing thing about this is that GW1 did not have this problem. Sure, the combat and overall production quality was much poorer, but the creative direction/art style was far superior.

I feel this may be a very intentional move. Anet and we both know that once the next (serious) MMO comes out to sate all the ex-WoW players the majority left playing will be the super casual type player who maybe likes this general aesthetic/content. This is the same type of player who tends to use the cash shop more extensively. I say this not in a disparaging way, but there’s different players with different tastes and Anet is clearly catering to their longer-term playerbase.

Hmm, interesting. May have to go back and check it out. The Shiro fight in NF has been pretty easy for years though.

Thanks for the heads up on this one.
